Nadia Ali in the playlist :o

What a nice surprise

Not a massively interesting week but it's good to see Nadia Ali finally given a chance! Sia on the A-list twice
Looks like Demi Lovato has been snubbed along with Tinchy/Pixie and Cher Lloyd.
I was hoping for Cher to be added this week. I'm guessing it will be blanked now.

C-List

* Dream - He Loves U Not Fantastic girlband pop, should have been a much bigger hit

* Nelly Furtado - I'm Like A Bird

Samantha Mumba - Always Come Back To Your Love

Pretty fantastic playlist actually!

10 years since 'I'm Like a Bird'! :o  It's definitely in my favourite songs of all-time; I far preferred the sound of her début album to everything that came after it, even the (almost as) glorious 'Say It Right'.

Nothing interests me on the current playlist, apart from I'm glad that Ed Sheeran has gone A-list (although it was inevitable). I'm glad both Kellys are still on, but I would've liked them to both go A-list (Rowland especially needs it; 'Lay it on Me' probably won't be the smash that everybody thought it would be :().

Yay for Ed Sheeran getting a fourth A-Listed single and it should also become his fourth top 10 hit very soon :D Didn't expect it to do this well, thank God he chose not to release 'Wake Me Up' though as that would have bombed. Best choice for fifth single if he does one would probably be 'U.N.I.'?

Also good to see will.i.am up to the A-List + Ben Howard and Coldplay up to B :D

I really like that Jakwob song, hope it can be a hit. Nadia Ali is a surprising addition, maybe it could grow to be a decent sized hit (again)?

I hope Radio 1 playlist 'Blackout' by Breathe Carolina soon - it already has Capital support which could make it a minor hit anyway but it'll need R1 to have any chance of being big. R1 seem to be slightly belatedly playlisting most seemingly Capital only stuff recently (Alyssa, Cover Drive and now Nadia Ali for example) and R1 supported Cobra Starship who are quite similar to Breathe Carolina so I can hope.

I hope R1 will support Demi in the next few weeks however unlikely it may be :(

The City would make for a more interesting choice but indeed U.N.I. seems likely as its typical safe Sheeran, has mass teenage girl appeal and won't ruffle any feathers. He's really selling himself as a diverse artist with these single choices

I agree with you about Wake Me Up though, the only song on the album that I skip, I can't stand it.

Why aren't they moving International Love & Twilight up, seems daft not to.

THEO: 11 years actually ;)

Gooddelta: Steps were not playlisted I dont think. They got support in the 90s and 2000, but not 2001. Unless they got playlisted in December 2000 and got booted off in the first playlist of 2001, 15th Jan.

I wonder why no James Morrison, he as not been added to the R2 playlist either but his single is out in 2 weeks ...as the date been put back ?
wow, eleven years since the breakthrough of Muse   I wonder if anyone would've thought they'd last this long

My favourites from 2001:

A-List

Dr Dre ft Snoop Dogg - The Next Episode Brilliant hip-hop song, my favourite Dre track by far

Dido - Here With Me

Feeder - Buck Rogers

Limp Bizkit - Rollin' Of course it's completely shit (although I maintain "Take A Look Around" is a genuinely good song) but I love it anyway!

Outkast - Ms Jackson Another hip-hop classic

B-List

Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood (Ed Case remix) Not a patch on the original though

* Manic Street Preachers - So Why So Sad

Papa Roach - Last Resort Still really like this

Shaggy - It Wasn't Me

Stereophonics - Mr Writer

U2 - Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of

C-List

* Muse - Plug In Baby Magnificent song, really comes alive live although the video has aged horribly

Was Chain Reaction snubbed too? :o

Yes. I guess in 2001 they were replaced by Hear'Say

Ouch. It's a wonder that they kept up the big top three hits and had a million selling album with Gold in 2001 but I guess they had a solid fanbase by that point. Plus the music channels were always incredibly loyal to Steps, as well as the likes of SM:TV and CD:UK.

Steps never really fit the "cool Radio 1" thing anyway - most cheesy pop and cheesy dance stuff did well without any radio support, but it was played a lot on channels like The Box or Smash Hits
