'Livin' on a Prayer' re-charted in 2010 at #42 following their performance on The X Factor. 'It's My Life' also charted at #62 that week, which I assume was the week that the album was released. 'Always' charted at #70 on the same week.

You're quite right- So hard to tell the way chartstats and polyhex list them, but still I should have looked thoroughly. Thanks :D

29. IN AND OUT OF CONCIOUSNESS- GREATEST HITS 1990-2010- Robbie Williams (646,900)

CHARTING TRACKS:

SHAME (2)

I also found it quite hard to believe that no other Robbie tracks had charted in this century, but after checking Chartstats, I found that 'Bodies' was at #93 on the first week of tracking (I don't know you include 76-100 though), 'You Know Me' was at #25, and 'Morning Sun' peaked at #45 following its release.

No I only count top 75, but they were all off "Radio Killed" not done for this album purposefully. :(

Polyhex are useless for determining when a song has re-entered, but on Chartstats it's pretty obvious from the week ending date (including the year) listed next to each position surely? :P

Indeed if you go into every entry.

Indeed if you go into every entry.

Fair point. I forgot you had to do that

28. OUTTA THIS WORLD- JLS (649,200)

CHARTING TRACKS:

THE CLUB IS ALIVE (1)

LOVE YOU MORE (1)

EYES WIDE SHUT (8)

It is perhaps fitting that JLS appear here, after all their debut set was responsible for spoiling Robbie'’s faultless strings of studio album No 1’s back in 2009, and indeed this second album from the Boyband big shots was in turn prevented from making No 1 by a reformed Take That with “Progress” containing the man himself. Again the band stuck to the tried and tested formula, single in July, follow up in November, launch album, and third single in February, there are signs however after last year that that may be wearing rather thin, with acts like the Wanted and One Direction around they aren’t the newest boyband on the block and future success is by no means assured.

Following up the triple platinum eponymous debut album was no easy fate and the band were virtually everywhere back in 2008, but second album “Science & Faith” hasn’t disappointed. An instant No 1 on release the album hasn’t done badly having only one top 40 on it, although the accusation of producing bland music still rests at their door.

WE FOUND LOVE (1)

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN (61)

Another year, another Rihanna album, and another No 1 album, her third in total. After the massive success of “We Found Love” ( a six week No 1) and a mildly controversial performance on X Factor, “Talk That Talk” opened with the largest weekly sale for any Rihanna album, and going double platinum in just 6 weeks. With a packed release schedule in 2012 there seems little to prevent this joining previous albums “Loud” and “Good Girl Gone Bad” in the ranks of the million sellers.

Thanks for doing this anyway - I do find it interesting, even if I only post to tell you your chart position mistakes.

Proving you can get critical acclaim and sales, Goulding won the BBC sound of poll for 2010 in addition to critics choice at the BRITS that year (only the second act after Adele to turn this trick), and in quick succession garnered a top 10 hit and a No 1 album. Eyebrows were raised when “Lights” hurtled from the top to No 16 the biggest fall by any album to that point, it proved only to be a blip, and the John Lewis advert utilising her cover of “Your Song” along with performing the track at the royal wedding proved there were legs in the album, enough to make the top 30 for the decade at any rate.

Just like JLS, Murs ended up as runner up on X Factor, and just like them he had his album denied the top spot by Take That’s “Progress” despite posting a very healthy first week sale of 108k in December 2010. That Murs was serious about this pop star lark can be seen by picking songs co-penned by the likes of Wayne Hector (writer of many of the Westlife chart toppers) and fellow pop stars James Morrison and Ed Sheeran.

That peaked at #4! :P

Deciding to give Gnarles Barkley a break, Green returned to solo duties and with the help of a certain Bruno Mars scored himself a No 1 in late 2010 with the expletive laden “F**k You”. Although the album debuted at No 10 it didn’t really catch fire until 2011, by which time It had slipped out of the top 30, lost in the Xmas rush for that year, it did bound up 42 places in just 4 weeks to finally make its peak in Jan 2011, a deluxe version against boosting sales in October when it returned to the top 10 for the first time in 3 months.

Bieber’s rise via you tube has been well documented and although his rise to stardom has hardly been as dramatic as it was stateside. The album was released in two “stages” the first part in Jan 2010 and “My World 2.0” being made available just two months later and contributed his first two top 10 hits into the bargain. All eyes are now on the follow up to see if he can prolong interest in a notoriously fickle market of teenage girls.

After two No 1 singles, a chart topping LP and two BRITS to his name I think we can conclude Tinie’s debut album a success. It spent its first 34 weeks inside the top 40 on way to those double platinum sales marking him as one of the biggest stars to emerge in 2010, and features guests spots by the likes of Kelly Rowland, Swedish House Mafia, and Ellie Goulding, and introduced us to Labrinth.
