The album top 5 will probably change over the weekend, Lana is a safe bet for #1, but expect a few surprises with people buying CDs for Valentine's Day, most likely Van Halen will drop to make way for Adele, and Etta James finishing higher.
Any uPdates for Snow patrol? Thanks

20+3

Video Games is hanging around. I'd love it to go back inside the top10 and beat its original peak of no9.

Quite clearly not gonna happen, I'm more focused on 'Born To Die' beating its #9 peak which it actually stands a realistic chance of doing.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd be really offended if I was bought Adele's album as a valentine's present. As good as it is, it's basically a whole album of her blasting an ex-lover. I'd think that person was trying to break up with me if I received that.

Without shadow of a doubt Adele will increase well from the Valentines affect.

Goldfrapp have not dropped in position which is the opposite of what i thought would happen, and Pet Shop Boys still top 20 at this stage is a surprise although iexpect top 30 when the chart is revealed on Sunday.

Midweek chart: Bottom's up for McCartney

Source: MW

By Paul Williams

Paul McCartney looks poised for his highest-charting non-Beatles album for nearly a decade and a half with Kisses On The Bottom heading for the UK top three this weekend.

The Hear Music/Mercury album has been showing up as a new entry at number three in the midweeks all week and by the end of business on Thursday had sold nearly 18,000 copies, according to the Official Charts Company. If it stays in this position by the time the full-week chart is published on Sunday it will be McCartney’s highest-charting album outside The Beatles since Flaming Pie debuted and peaked at number two in 1997.

McCartney’s albums chart success is happening in the same week Mick Jagger heads for the top five of the UK singles chart for the first time since 1985, reviving memories of the Beatles versus Stones rivalry of the 1960s. Jagger’s return, more than a quarter of a century after he topped the chart with the Live Aid single Dancing In The Street with David Bowie, comes via a guestspot alongside Jennifer Lopez on will.i.am’s newly-issued T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever). The Interscope/Polydor single is a new entry at three in the week so far.

Ahead of the Black Eyes Peas man’s single, Gotye is pressing David Guetta close to top the singles chart. There are fewer than 2,000 sales separating Guetta’s Positiva/Virgin single Titanium featuring Sia and the Island-issued Gotye featuring Kimbra cut Somebody That I Used To Know, which is two in the midweeks.

Polydor act Lana Del Rey is very likely to secure a second week at number one on the UK artist albums chart this weekend with Born To Die, while Maverick Sabre’s debut Mercury album Lonely Are The Brave should debut at two with latest Official Charts Company figures putting it around 15,000 sales ahead of McCartney’s album.

Maverick 33k and McCartney 18k, probably 45k and 25k by Sunday then? If Lana's that far ahead she could be over 60k this week.

That was exactly my 1st thougt

I would not want to receive that as a present for valentine. Another example would be Gotye "STIUTK"

But I am pretty sure that people buy music because they like it or think that the presentee might like it - no matter what the lyrics are.

Nobody is gonna buy their lover a SONG on iTunes though...

From reading the report and putting the information together, album sales could be strong within the top 3 this week.

From the report Maverick Sabre has sold 33,000 so far so that should result in Lana Del Ray waiting well above 50,000 in total for this week.

Would be absolutely fantastic if Gotye could make #1. 2k to cover in 2 days while ahead on iTunes is more than doable. Does anyone know the difference in popularity bars between that and Titanium?
Great to see Lana Del Rey set for a second week at #1 - the string of one-weekers we've had since Christmas has just been bugging me. It is a shame to see Maverick Sabre miss out on a #1 though - but a #2 is equally as good, especially when you think of how many big sellers peaked at #2 last year (including Jessie J and Chase & Status). Interesting battle between Lana Del Rey and Emeli Sande next week then.
So Gotye has lessened the gap from 5k to 2k on Wednesday and Thursday. Its going to be so close.

I reckon by end of tonight there will be hardly anything seperating the sales between Gotye and Guetta. It's really all about Saturday's sales now. If Gotye can remain no. 1 on iTunes until 00:00am Sunday morning he could get there. If 'Titanium' benefits more from the weekend effect and closes the gap significantly, then Guetta may just edge out in front. Will probably be a closely fought battle for no. 1 on Sunday.

If "Next to Me" is a #1 contender then I can't see the album doing under 100k really. At least 80 which will be probably double what Lana's selling, however it'll be interesting to see if either album returns to #1 later in the year. Both could do I guess, no idea of Emeli Sandé has a potential single as good as "National Anthem" up her sleeve though.

Except National Anthem has absolutely nothing going for it except the chorus and there are several superior choices on the album.

I think Lana will do a Florence and have one big hit for the 3rd single or possibly later.

Judging from the clips of Emeli's album, they're all very radio friendly. I'm downloading now though (it's leaked), can't wait to actually buy it
