On the subject of Gotye/Kimbra, I do hope STIUTK being huge helps out Kimbra's solo career, her album Vows is amazing  Not as good as Somebody That I Used To Know, but then not much is :P Of course it won't, I can see Gotye being pretty much a mirror of Owl City success-wise, and Kimbra probably even chart with anything else.

Usually when an artist features on a bit hit, it boosts their career somewhat, and Somebody That I Used to Know seems to have helped Kimbra's solo career in New Zealand and Australia.

Its not available until Monday

I hate to be pedantic but Kimbra charted in New Zealand with her album and a single before STIUTK was big :P In the case of the single, it was in 2010. But she's bigger in Australia it seems (albums sales wise anyway), despite New Zealand being her home country. I do hope she at least gets like a top 40 album though.

I reckon she could get top 40 here. Album sales being so low at the moment means she has a chance of charting better from a fanbase buy, and I've never heard any of her solo songs, so I might be completely wrong here, but she seems like the sort of artist that would do well with albums.

With regards to LMFAO, it seems the only song that has received a notable boost from their promo tonight has been Party Rock Anthem.

Her solo stuff is different to Somebody That I Used To Know, it's like alternative pop/soul, so yeah probably more likely to sell albums. That's true for her chart history so far in Aus/NZ, her first single Settle Down only reached 37 in New Zealand and is her only single to chart, but her album peaked at 4. In Australia, her single Good Intent got to something like 96 but the album peaked at 4. I imagine if she does give the album a UK push, Radio 2 would probably like Settle Down and Good Intent.

But Pitbull had the benefit of being a fairly well-known name in the UK, alongside Ne-Yo and Afrojack that would've helped out the track initially. Gotye (and Kimbra for that matter) was a complete nobody in the UK and had to rely on just the song's reputation to help him out.

Not always a good thing when your talking about pitbull and radio 1 lol!!

You really DID ignore my update this time <_< I even put the word 'Kworb' above it in bold!

Give Me Everything is probably a better example to use than Somebody That I Used to Know. They had similar climbs to #1 (even though people make out as if Gotye took months to get there, but he got there quite fast tbh ):

Gotye: 36-21-7-3-1 - 5 weeks

Pitbull: 35-25-12-4-1 - 5 weeks

Gotye got to #1 on his 6th week, not his 5th - he entered the chart at #97.

I assume Charlene is on the up AGAIN because of Let's Dance For Sport Relief then? (I wasn't here for it + I didn't know it was even on but I'm guessing it was used on there) :manson: If someone could post a list of songs used on it that'd be cool.

Jessie increasing well from her performance, she could do another 50k next week. I think 'Domino' will easily be at least a second platinum single for her and I wouldn't be that surprised if it eventually becomes a second million seller!

Did LMFAO really do Party Rock Anthem on Jonathan Ross? :drama: It's up to #51 anyway. Sexy And I Know It up to #16.

Ooh, Nadia Ali finally back in the top 40 (#36) :D Hope it goes top 40 officially next week.

I'm sorry! I genuinely missed it when scrolling down - it's because you had a quote above it so it didn't show up immediately! D:

Nicki is falling rapidly, she will probably be out of the top 10 by tomorrow
If someone could post a list of songs used on [Let's Dance For Sport Relief] that'd be cool.

Just quoting this to make sure people see it :P

Definitely team Gym Class Heroes for #1 for this week.
To think it through again, actually you're right somewhat but you shouldn't forget two things:

1. Giftcards people received or Christmas are in action in the first couple of weeks of January too (still)

2. 79p/99p is not a price you wouldn't pay if you want new music even after Chtristmas, so it sounds odd, to say after Christmas people don't have money to buy music. Maybe albums yes, but a 99p song...

I meant it as a joke

I would love Emeli Sande to climb to #1 next week, but I'd also be more than happy to see Gotye get a 2nd week at #1.

I meant it as a joke

From first-hand experience, I can tell you sometimes jokes DON'T GO DOWN WELL (usually due to people not realizing I'm joking and then an arguement starting (and I usually fuel the arguement more by making another joke :drama:)).
