I believe two of them were related to Brian Wilson (ex-Beach Boys) and the other to a former member of Mamas & Papas.

Maybe they've listened to the preview and actually think it's a better version of the song? That would certainly apply to me in relation to "T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever)" for instance.

Cher Lloyd just performed on This Morning, her EP is at #65, album version at #38 and no other version is top 100. Wonder where it will peak, may be an idea to reduce to 59p like OneD did..

 

Love how well Sia is doing #4 with Wild Ones and #5 with Titanium. :dance:

I think in Gotye's case, people search the song title and it comes up with both the Gotye version and the fake above, but perhaps people thing that Gotye's version is the fake given that his name isn't a standard English/American sounding name.

Sorry Eric I think youve misunderstood my arguement here,im not arguing that its the only reason for chart sucess just that its a major reason. Songs with heavy video play 'nearly' always rise up the chart. I think it is more important than radio play but both together lead to a higher and more stable chart run. There's loads of radio 2 songs that are high up the airplay chart but dont chart that highly - currently Bruce Springsteens song is a good example!

Whilst that may be true, the converse is that every song that is high in the charts (other than fanbase buys) nearly always has substantial radio play to go along with it.

 

I think Radio play is more important than video play, although clearly both are contributory factors.

He gets practically no radio/TV support in the UK anymore though (probably for a similar reason to Cher Lloyd, because he has a controversial personality), but still.
