February 13, 201213 yr Llike Man in the Mirror wasn't Michael Jackson's most "iconic track", but it sold the most after it died, because it's like a "dedication track". The sound of the song and the lyrics are more likely to sell to people who are mourning. I see your point, therefore I find it unusual that I Wanna Dance With Somebody seems to be the "dedication track" over the more obvious I Will Always Love You.
February 19, 201213 yr Author First post updated now the stats are in for Whitney. Odd that she only had half as many top 40 entries as Amy (although she had more top 100 entries).
February 19, 201213 yr I seem to recall that Smiley Culture re-entered the iTunes top 200 after his death.
February 20, 201213 yr I see your point, therefore I find it unusual that I Wanna Dance With Somebody seems to be the "dedication track" over the more obvious I Will Always Love You. It wasn't though. 'I Will Always Love You' re-entered higher than any other Whitney single. Btw, you might have written that post before anything major happened chart-wise. :P
February 20, 201213 yr Author I seem to recall that Smiley Culture re-entered the iTunes top 200 after his death. Which song re-entered? (I just remembered a couple of other Etta James songs also re-entered the iTunes top 200 as well as 'At Last', added to the first post).
February 20, 201213 yr Lady GaGa - 'Bad Romance' (iconic track) and 'Born This Way' / 'The Edge of Glory' (dedication track) God forbid it should happen soon, i'd want Dance in the Dark to become Gaga's biggest dedication track. That's the song most people used when that fan committed suicide a few months ago for example, and it's such a fitting song for death unfortunately. TEOG is another obvious one because it's about her Grandad dieing so that would make sense.
February 21, 201213 yr I know it's slightly different but didn't Jennifer Hudson's 'Spotlight' climb a little when her family were murdered? I don't know if this really counts!
February 26, 201213 yr sceneofSIXcrimes with George Michael it would depend on the time of year, were he to pass away between November and January then Last Christmas would easily outperform all those, and probably make top 3. And as for Kylie I don't think I Believe In You would do all that well as it's fairly indistingiushable from several other slower tracks she's done in recent years, personally I'd plump for one of her older tracks to do well, probably Especially For You or Tears On My Pillow ore if the publice are feeling a bit ironic maybe Never Too Late. But then that may just be becuase I've been following Kylie (not literally you understand since the court order lol) for 25 years and still have greater fondness for the older stuff. In any case I hope both every we've predicting for has many years left yet. Just thought how long ago was the great Kirsty MacColl's tragic death and does Fairytale's reentries count?

Kirsty MacColl's tragic death was in December 2000 and it didn't get re-released. I suppose 'Fairytale of New York' does count. I think
March 1, 201213 yr Looks like it's time for another update to this already. Keeping this thread up to date could be a very depressing prospect...
March 1, 201213 yr What happens if Bré dies though?! :o Will the chart mods be adding the positions of 'Chasing Cars', 'Don't Speak', 'Bring Me to Life' and 'All the Things She Said' to the opening post?!
March 1, 201213 yr Keeping this thread up to date could be a very depressing prospect... How come you've been awarded 'person who represents the worst of Buzzjack 2011'? I don't recall seeing any contest being held. Right ungrateful lot here anyway, after all you do for them as regards sales info. Edited March 1, 201213 yr by Col1967

March 2, 201213 yr http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=137902  I've now taken the time to reply to that - and if some of you didn't like my opinions before...

March 2, 201213 yr I didn't know Gerry Rafferty died! I love Baker Street, especially the instrumental version with just the sax
