February 23, 201213 yr Big rise for Calvin! :cheer: He's doing incredibly well so far. Ellie falling is expected but I figure without the Grammys and Whitney she'd be at #78 so it's not terrible. 1D got even higher than I expected! But I suppose they had great longevity in the top 10. And The Wanted stalling a bit was expected this week. Big rise for them next week I hope!
February 23, 201213 yr Ouch. Massive drop for Madonna! It's too bad her new single flopped worldwide given the promotion and exposure it got.... That's what happen when u try too hard to be hip and young at 53....!!!! Too many Brit artists in the Top 100, feels like the 80's all over again ....
February 23, 201213 yr New record for Adele, first Female artist to place 3 solo singles in the US Hot 100... Yet another record broken by the diva......
February 23, 201213 yr One Direction have the highest debut by a British act since The Verve in 1998. Amazing. It's looking more and more likely that they are going to be an international act after all (I never believed they would be when Simon used to big them up on X Factor.)
February 23, 201213 yr One Direction will have huge international success with What Makes You Beautiful and maybe their album but I get the feeling they'll be one hit wonders outside the UK (even in the UK they haven't really had another big hit, Gotta Be You peaked quite high but plummeted and was out of the top 100 before WMYB exited the top 40, One Thing has done decently but only peaked at #9 and shows signs of dropping off quite quickly as well). Woo for One Direction's success in that it brings another British act to the chart I guess. But also boo because the song is awful  Fantastic to see Coldplay back in the top 20 with 'Paradise' (it must have a pretty decent sales total by now) and back up to 54 with 'Princess Of China' + new peaks for The Wanted and Calvin Harris (and of course Adele being back in the top 10 with both RITD and SLY while SFTTR remains #2, with Rumour Has It re-entering at #67) :cheer: Calvin is progressing unbelievably well, hopefully 'Feel So Close' can become a massive hit. There are now ELEVEN songs in the Hot 100 with British lead artists :o Florence + The Machine have dropped out from last week but What Makes You Beautiful has entered and Rumour Has It re-entered so the total has gone up from last week's ten. Still the same total number of songs with British artists credited as 5 O'Clock has dropped out as well. Edited February 23, 201213 yr by Bré
February 23, 201213 yr Lack of airplay really held One Direction back with them being #12 on digital songs but a #28 debut is still excellent and better than I'd have imagined. :D Smaller climb for The Wanted but I think it's still pretty good since it dropped to below #30 on iTunes following the Grammys. Wonder if it could go straight to top 10 next week with it's high iTunes position and airplay still increasing - top 15 should be in the bag though.
February 23, 201213 yr The cast of Glee performed "Glad You Came" on this week's show, and as of noon Thursday, the original by The Wanted is #5 on iTunes US (the Glee version is #31). I'd guess The Wanted will rise into the Top 20 next Thursday.
February 23, 201213 yr Too many Brit artists in the Top 100, feels like the 80's all over again .... What a ridiculous thing to say - especially as you're the poster that complains most often about there being no British music on the Hot 100
February 23, 201213 yr Katy vs Adele vs Kelly for #1 next week then? Adele is #1 on airplay but lacking in sales and Katy is #1 on downloads but lacking in airplay, while Kelly is ahead of Adele on sales and ahead of Katy on airplay.
February 23, 201213 yr I really don't understand that logic, just over 10% of the chart are Brits this week. If that was the case, surely there are too many American artists in our top 40/100?
February 23, 201213 yr Katy vs Adele vs Kelly for #1 next week then? Adele is #1 on airplay but lacking in sales and Katy is #1 on downloads but lacking in airplay, while Kelly is ahead of Adele on sales and ahead of Katy on airplay. Kelly is ahead of Katy on sales now as well (due to Glee), she'll definitely be #1 I think.
February 23, 201213 yr sadly I don't think Adele's going back to #1 with SFTTR as sales have started to drop. But 3 #1s from an album, much less from a British artist is incredible!
February 24, 201213 yr One Direction will have huge international success with What Makes You Beautiful and maybe their album but I get the feeling they'll be one hit wonders outside the UK (even in the UK they haven't really had another big hit, Gotta Be You peaked quite high but plummeted and was out of the top 100 before WMYB exited the top 40, One Thing has done decently but only peaked at #9 and shows signs of dropping off quite quickly as well). I think all they need is 1 hit single as long as the album does well. The other 2 singles have been Top 10 in the UK even if they dropped quickly. They have achieved what a lot of so called credible acts haven't. The album has gone to number 1 in several countries, that alone is a huge achievement. They've got their tour and will move on to a new album. really happy for them. :cheer:
