1997.

I think the first single I ever bought was Ricky Martin-Livin' La Vida Loca though. I didn't really buy singles much then, I just taped the ones I liked off the radio.

i'd say roughly around may 2004.

the first single i bought was Mel C and Bryan Adams "When You're Gone" actually tell a lie it we're hanson MMBOP lol.

My earliest memory of the charts was listening to the year end countdown of 1987. Then in January 1988 I started listening to the charts every week and writing them down. :)

I used to listen to David Jensen and the Network Chart on local radio, and the top 30 countdown between 5-7pm on a Sunday. Then I changed over in 1994 to Radio 1, after the Network Chart became the Pepsi Chart with Neil Fox. listened to Radio 1 for about 8 or 9 months then went back to listening to the Pepsi Chart Show with Neil Fox.

Havent really listened to chart show since 2004. Dont like the current chart system, too many stupid rules, with deleted singles etc. <_<

First single: 1981 - Imagine - John Lennon

First Album: 1982 - Rio - Duran Duran

I was first interested in the charts from about 1982, when I listened to Gary Davies or Mike Smith reveal the new chart on Tuesday dinnertime (lunchtime from school).

1994 - the first single I bought was in that year too. It was 'Always' by Bon Jovi

That would be Gary Davies doing the lunchtime show, Mike Smith did the breakfast show (86-88).

I think the chart was revealed on the breakfast show, then repeated in the lunchtime show.

The breakfast show also had the chartbeat, where listeners voted for their favourite new release of the week.

Somewhere in the late 80's prior to Black Box being #1 for 6 weeks.

Always listened to the radio a lot, but found listening to the chart countdown exciting on a Sunday afternoon.

Loved Bruno Brookes doing it. What years did he do it?

Well i first started following the charts in 1986.

I can remember at the start of the year listening to the Next Week's chart show on Radio Luxembourg on my walkman. This was on a Monday evening and the presenter was Mike Hollis who is now on Saga 105.7 FM.

Then i got into the R1 chart show with Bruno Brookes, and started recording the shows, unfortunately i no longer have my early recordings which is a shame.

My earliest recording is a chart from 1987. I have one from Feb/March 88 too.

Anyway from then i on i never missed a chart show and became a addicted, although for some strange reason i only started writing the chart down from the start of 1989, which is quite surprising.

I was pleased to purchase the book of top 40 charts later where it had every single UK Top 40 from 1960 to the end of 1991 which was quite awesome to have.

Yes, I used to listen to Radio luxembourg chart also. They used to predict it to be ahead of the Offical chart. Was kinda funny when they got it all wrong.

Bruno did the chart from 86-90, and then 92-95.

Always loved him doing it too.

I started getting interested in the charts in 1974 - around the time Georeg McCrae - Rock Your Baby was #1 - incredible song.

Although I have the charts right back to the beginning in November 1952 up to 1976 complete then from 1977 to 1991 have just a few missing and a few Top 40 only. Then I have 1991 to 2000 complete then just a few missing after this.

Although I have them I lost interest in the charts from around 1995 to 2005. The alterations that made most singles enter at their peak positions and new entries at #1 almost every week became boring.

I'm getting a bit more interested again now that we have climbers and good chart runs such as Shakira right now.

I also have the US singles charts back to the beginning in July 1940 right up to 2000 with just a few missing from the recent years.

Also Germany's from the beginning in 1959 to present although some are just Top 50. In 1990 their charts became Top 100.

I remember when new charttime was Tuesday lunch Time. In 1974 to 1980 the countdown was revealed by Johnnie Walker.
