February 26, 201213 yr I went and downloaded 3 1/2 Minutes' EP after seeing you mention them in the commentary. Rather cool stuff. Recognized the name of one of the commenters at that blog. Edited February 26, 201213 yr by Brett-Butler
February 26, 201213 yr Author I have to admit I can't actually remember 3 1/2 minutes at all. Maybe I'll have to return to that blog for a listen!
February 26, 201213 yr Suedehead2:, 1) 21 has sold more than 6 Million in the USA. I'm sure that I read that it was on about 7,300,000 USA Sales, the other day. 2) Adele is not the only Female Singer to have 3 USA Top 10 Singles at the same time. She is the first Solo Female to do it. Ashanti managed 3 at the same time, in 2002, but 2 of them were her as the 'Featured' Artist. (She managed it for 2 Weeks, I believe. I'm writing from memory - a Billboard Report, that I read yesterday). @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ A) With both Gotye & Adele returning to No.1 in the same Week, it is only the 2nd time that the No.1 Single & Album have been Returns To No.1, in the same Week. The previous time was on W/E 9th January 2010, when Bad Romance, (Lady GaGa), returned to No.1 in the Singles Chart, & Sunny Side Up, by Paolo Nutini, returned to No.1 in the Album Chart. B) Somebody That I Use To Know is only the 38th No.1 Single to return to No.1, out of 1,189 No.1 Singles, since Mid November 1952. C) Adele's Album has now returned to No.1 for the 6th time. It is one of only 3 Artist Albums to go to No.1 at least 6 times. The other 2 are Talk On Corners, by The Corrs, which also went to No.1 on 6 occasions. (1998 to 1999 - 10 Weeks at No.1). The other is Bridge Over Troubled Water, by Simon & Garfunkel, which had 8 Runs at No.1, from 1970 to 1971, & 33 Weeks at No.1. D) With 21 Weeks at No.1, here in the UK, here are the Top 4 Female/Female Orientated Acts, with the Most No.1 Album Weeks, to date:, Here are the Female Acts or Acts with Female Singers with the most UK No.1 Album Weeks:, To W/E 3rd March 2012 1) ABBA - 57 No.1 Weeks - From 9 No.1 Albums (Agnetha & Frida sang lead on nearly all of their Songs) 2)=MADONNA - 29 No.1 Weeks - From 11 No.1 Albums 2)=THE CARPENTERS - 29 No.1 Weeks - From 3 No.1 Albums (Karen Carpenter sang lead on nearly all of their Songs) 4) ADELE - 22 Weeks at No.1 - From 2 No.1 Albums NOTE - Adele's 22 Weeks at No.1 means that she has just passed both Queen & Oasis, who each have 21 No.1 Album Weeks, from 9 & 8 No.1 Albums, respectively. February 26, 201213 yr 2) Adele is not the only Female Singer to have 3 USA Top 10 Singles at the same time. She is the first Solo Female to do it. Ashanti managed 3 at the same time, in 2002, but 2 of them were her as the 'Featured' Artist. (She managed it for 2 Weeks, I believe. I'm writing from memory - a Billboard Report, that I read yesterday). That's a bit misleading - Ashanti is a solo female as well. The way Billboard worded it is that she's the first female to have 3 songs in the top 10 as a lead artist (and only the fifth artist ever, after The Beatles, Bee Gees, Usher and Chris Brown). I didn't even realise that both of the #1s were returns this week :o Thanks for pointing that out, that's the sort of pointless detail I'd usually work out long before it happened  Edited February 26, 201213 yr by Bré
February 26, 201213 yr Bre - That's what I said. I was saying that Ashanti also had 3 USA Top 10 Hits at the same time, but not as the lead Artist. That she was the 'Featured' Artist on 2 of them. Adele is the first Female Artist to achieve it entirely on her own. I don't see where what I said, & what you said, contradict each other.....I'm aware of how Billboard put it. I did not disagree with them - or you. Edited February 26, 201213 yr by zeus555
February 26, 201213 yr Bre - That's what I said. I was saying that Ashanti also had 3 USA Top 10 Hits at the same time, but not as the lead Artist. That she was the 'Featured' Artist on 2 of them. Adele is the firs t Female Artist to achieve it entirely on her own. I don't see where what I said, & what you said, contradict each other r.....I'm aware of how Billboard put it. I did not disagree with them - or you. I mean saying 'she's the first solo female to do it' is misleading. Ashanti herself is a solo artist (although I know the songs weren't all solo) so you can say she's a solo female that's achieved it.
February 26, 201213 yr Author Thanks for that zeuss. Given that it is still fairly rare for a single to return to the top I did wonder how often it had been done before. Interesting that the only previous occurrence is very recent. Just checked the Adele figure and, yes, she was on 7.35m in the US a few days ago.
February 27, 201213 yr Regarding "the first female solo artist to have 3 singles in top 10 as lead artist on Hot 100" thing I can't help but keep wondering why people think male and female artists should be treated separately. These days most of pop stars are female artists and even in the 60s there were big female artists and groups dominating charts (The Supremes, Aretha Franklin etc). It's impressive for Adele being the fifth act ever to achieve that feat but it's not impressive that she's the first female. I actually wonder why it took this long for first female to achieve that. Whilst Adele is successful the feat is the combination of timing, good songs and how much songs are sold because sales are the main factor here. Edited February 27, 201213 yr by SKOB
