As always, you vote using the traditional Eurovision system, i.e. 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 points, and send the scores to me by PM! 6 songs will qualify for the Semifinals and 3 - for Andra Chansen. If you already voted and realised that you missed something, you can change your votes if you want.

You have until evening of SUNDAY, March 11th to vote. And yeah, vote for you favourite song, and not the country, etc.

Aside from about 5 songs, every entry in 2009 was top notch, and what made it an even better year was that all of the very best entries made the final. The only real upset for me was Lithuania making it through over either one of Ireland or Slovakia.
I'd have preferred Switzerland into the final but everything about 2009 was fantastic, the songs, the variety, the results and the hosts - Russia put on a sensational show which will take a LOT to ever be bettered. My thoughts coming up!

2009 is my favourite contest! Every song has at least over 40 plays on iTunes!

RedFoo from LMFAO has clearly taken inspiration in style from one of the Serbian entrants who reminds me of The Honey Monster

2009 was amazing

What a show as well, everything overall was just really great!

Ahh yes, Eurovision 2009 was indeed a solid year.

One thing though, I never understood the appeal of 'Fairytale' even though I did like it, it was certainly not my fave song from Eurovision 2009.

Oh, Ádok Zoli...that outfit! :drama: :puke:

Really? 2009 is probably as close to perfect as the contest has ever got but I could barely sit through Czech Republic even once (must admit to Belgium being a guilty pleasure though)

All made even better by the UK doing really well with a great song. Highlights were blue spiderman & the violinist.

My thoughts in full;

- Well done Belgium, Copycat = the worst Eurovision entry of the decade (imo) :nocheer:

- Russia's entry was vaguely disturbing. The song was nice enough but Anastasiya aging on the screen in the background was truly bizarre.

- Armenia's entry was a ridiculous grower, NOR PAR!

- A Ronan Keating lookalike for Denmark, with a song written by...Ronan! I bought his album and it was very much the solo album that Ronan never got round to making, very bizarre.

- Poor Chiara following two top three's with such a flop in the final, I'll never understand why the demo/original wasn't kept as the main version. The ESC version had some strange production, the final 10-15 seconds are news bulletin music.

- Montenegro had a brilliant entry for once! That's another one I'd have liked to have seen in the final come to think of it, not that I can fault the qualifiers that did make it.

- Ukraine's entry was SO hyped on BJ, immediately before the final most seemed to think it was a challenger for Fairytale. I wasn't a fan :(

- Jade  It's My Time was an ancient sounding cliched ballad. Why are people moaning about Engelbert being picked with a probably fairly contemporary song when Jade was pushing a heavily orchestrated and dated 50s-esque number!?! Nevertheless it was pompous, pretentious and fantastic - Andrew Lloyd Webber being on stage was a bit of a surreal 'look Europe, we're taking it seriously this year, honest' moment. Shame the violinist whacked her in the face and ruined the illusion for a second. How lovely to return to the top five for the first time in 7 years - deserved!

- Why did Germany bring Dita Von Teese along again? Didn't pull in the votes did it!

- A second consecutive lovely entry from Portugal, we were being spoilt!

- Switzerland and yet another unjust DNQ, the vocals weren't amazing but the same could be said for most of the acts that did well. I loved The Highest Heights, was #1 in my chart just before the semis in fact!

- Azerbaijan and Turkey fielded strong ethno-pop songs that were big on Buzzjack but I cared little for. Always was far better though (unpopular opinion, Hadise has some sort of fanbase on here apparently).

- Sweden, as ever, were fantastic. La Voix was in my top five entries of the year although admittedly it was a lot softer and much less of a 'moment' than the MF performance was. Would have liked to have seen Caroline Af Ugglas here in her place just out of sheer curiosity as to how Snalla Snalla would have done and if it would have been left in Swedish, and to see Caroline's antics in the green room of course! (My favourite MF 2009 entry by a mile though was Alcazar but they'd have crashed and burned at Eurovision and it would have hurt too much to see my favourite song of the year epic fail).

- Yohanna  I didn't expect her to finish anywhere near second but after that crystal clear and gorgeous vocal in the semi, it was obvious that she was going to do really well. Lovely song, and a UK top 50 SMASH (eat that Saade :o)

- And Latvia provided the second worst Eurovision entry of the last decade. Well done 2009.

- Some pure class from Patricia Kaas of France. France really need to start being recognised for their great, respectable entries sometime soon.

- Finland  Lose Control has been my ringtone for coming on three years now, what a fantastic slice of Euro dance that was executed appallingly live! Surprised it got the jury by into the final!

- Slovenia's entry was great, they should have left it as an instrumental though! Would have liked to have seen it in the final.

- ...aaaaand Norway. What more is there to say about this landslide winner? From the moment I first heard it in January 2009 when the clips of the MGP songs were uploaded before the semis I thought 'this is a Eurovision winner' and that it was. The moment it beat poor Tone Damli by 7:1 in the MGP final, it seemed pretty obvious that he was likely to do the same at Eurovision, and it was AMAZING to see the contest finally move back to western Europe, and in quite some style! My favourite song of the year by a mile, and a very deserved winner. And yes...a UK top ten hit :w00t: Bear in mind radio and TV in the UK completely snub anything related to the contest, it got that top ten purely by virtue of THAT performance and being a great song. If only it had been fully promoted here it could have been the huge smash that it was in every other country across Europe, rather than 'that Eurovision winner that somehow made it into the UK top ten briefly'. Even now, every time it's mentioned or a clip is played somewhere it returns to the top 100 on iTunes here. Shame he's a one song artist now, and his career will never amount to more than this song - and don't we know it!

Yep it was around the time that I got my first iPod so all I had on it for a while was ABBA, Michael Jackson and Eurovision they all racked up quite an astonishing amount of plays before I began purchasing my own music. That's probably why I have such a connection with this contest as I know all the songs so well!

It'll be INCREDIBLY hard, if not impossible, for Rybak to write/find a song that is equal to or even better than Fairytale. :(

Waldo's People  'Lose Control' is anthemic Eurodance at its best. Yes, the live performance didn't do the song justice at all but then most songs heavily based around rapping never do. Eg; I remember seeing Dizzee Rascal perform 'Bonkers!' live (with a live band too) and it sounded dreadful. Sometimes it's all about the studio recording.

3 people voted, and already 23 songs received at least one point. :o
Voted. Stunning top six, I'd count all of them in my all time top 200 songs, let alone Eurovision! Scandinavia (and the UK) were on fire in 2009!

It was damn impossible to vote. Literally the whole Top 8 deserves to get a 12!
Only year where my personal top 5 reflected the actual top 5! Just in a different order.
Not as good as 2008, but still a bloody good year. HATE HATE HATE Fairytale though, annoying song sung by an arrogant TWAT.
The best Eurovision year EVER. Sure, it levelled it out a little by providing a couple of the worst Eurovision songs ever (I'm looking at YOU Probka), but it's difficult to argue with a final as stellar as that (not a single bad track!) with COUNTLESS gems left behind in the semis.
The amazing Christina Metaxa's from this year :cheer: Beautiful song, shame she hasn't got much chance of qualifying here! Hopefully I'm proved wrong :)
