Olly is actually charting?! :o God, it seems so easy for Brits to break through suddenly. Ugh at the pointless decision to replace Rizzle Kicks with Chiddy Bang though.

YouTube isn't the main video sharing site in Asia. It's actually a minority in Korea (where K-Pop originates from), Japan (where almost all of K-Pop idol releases in Japan are blocked), China (They use Baidu and YouKu instead and last time I was in China, YouTube was blocked. Them three markets make up the biggest Asian fanbase of K-Pop.

Most of the YouTube views are contributed to International fanbase instead.

While IT IS blocked in China (but not in Hong Kong or in Taiwan, which are important markets), Youtube is BY FAR the most popular videosharing website in Japan and its also extremely popular in South Korea (albeit it is not as popular as Tudou). In fact, it is the 4th most popular website in Japan and the 6th in South Korea which is in line with any other nation around the world (in the UK, for example, YT is 4th. Source: alexa.org). Also, most videos in Youtube have stats which shown in what countries the videos are most popular in and any Kpop video will have most of its popularity concentrated in Asian territories.

China is actually an important market in K-Pop factor because it's played everywhere there from personal visits every year. YouTube by far the most popular videosharing website in Japan? Have you seen the amount of J-Pop stuff on YouTube? It is next to NONE because of how the companies blocked it. I highly doubt it's very popular if their own material gets blocked almost instantly once uploaded.

My prime example for my inital post was Girls' Generation's Gee. Checking on the video proves it, it's highly popular in North America as well as Australasia and South-east Asia. I don't doubt that a lot of views are from Asian territories but you underestimate the international fanbase of K-Pop fandoms tbh.

I'm not denying China is an important market and I'm completely aware Jpop is basically blocked in YT. It doesn't change the fact Kpop is NOT (which is what we're talking about in the first place) and it doesn't change the fact Youtube is still EXTREMELY popular in Japan (http://www.alexa.com/topsites/countries/JP).

And I'm not underestimating the international Kpop fandom. I'm well aware Kpop acts can sell-out arenas in the US and in Australia (coincidentally, in cities where there's a heavy density of Asian immigrants). That doesn't change the fact its pretty easy to understand why they don't chart in the Western even though they have heavyloads of views on YT.

But yeah, anyway, I guess that's going OT.

My first point was stating how Liver said having millions of views = popularity when it doesn't. But this talk is going OT by far.

Back to the original topic, the British acts are doing very well in the US so far. Back a few years ago, it was rare and when Leona Lewis had a #1 hit with Bleeding love, she was all over the music news as the first British artist to get #1 since a long time ago, now Adele always tops the charts and the likes of 1D and The Wanted going Top 10 is making things even easier

Chasing The Sun just isn't going to catch on in the US, is it? :drama:

Well, there's the Ice Age 4 crosspromotion soon so maybe it'll help...

But let's be truthful, The Wanted as a whole aren't catching up in the US. I mean, obviously Glad You Came was huge but it was a "one hit" thing. With the best promotion in the world, they're having an extremely difficult time achieving any kind of meaningful success and are constantly outshined by 1D.

AGREE

The song's more famous than the band.

Having said that, the label and the band are both invested in cracking the States so they may try for another round and get more American friendly songs.

207. The A Team - Ed Sheeran

:cheer:

Finally, Mr.Sheeran... now break the 200 barrier please!

Did Rebecca perform this somewhere? Otherwise it seems odd given it isn't one of the UK singles but I would love to see Rebecca get some US success.

As for 'Seven Devils', it was used heavily in an important scene during the TV show 'Revenge' on May 23rd.

'Let's Go' to #61, 'Chasing The Sun' to #87 and 'The A Team' to #193 (seems to finally be showing signs of taking off now! Big hit please).

No, the only 2 promo's Rebecca's done so far have been the Today Show and The Voice, and performed "NRBL" on both shows. She's performing on Jay Leno show sometime end of June. Guess the song is charting based on word of mouth. Given the current landscape, it is a gorg song though!

A Team' to #193 (seems to finally be showing signs of taking off now! Big hit please).

Agree.

Big hit PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE :D

I can see that Adele NBC doco having the effect already - all songs on the rise. RITD at #55. Just how many more copies will this song sell?!
