Posted March 22, 201213 yr As part of BJSC's 5th birthday this November I have some fun idea's to help us celebrate it. First up would be BJSC:RELOADED. First suggested quite some time ago by Tyron iirc this would involve us basically rerunning the first 6 contests. The pre-Untouched era when the contest was still in it's infancy and had much fewer participants. If the first 6 are popular and there is demand for it, I might extend it to cover the first 10 contests. Unlike a normal contest there would be no confirmation as all the songs have already been picked. The format and rules would follow that of Pre-Untouched BJSC with Semi-finals to eliminate 3 songs in the infamous BJSC V and 10AQ's etc. The idea would be to have it rolling so if Ashton failed to get in the top10 in BJSC I it would fail to AQ for BJSC II where as when it was originally run we placed 8th in BJSC I. We'd have odds and predicta's that we didn't have first time round and some history about each of the contests. (Rich/Tyron are encouraged to relive the SmackMe/Opium love in of BJSC VI). Two sets of results would be run. A full set of everyone that voted and an abridged version showing how the 'old guard' would vote now in comparison to back then and how that would affect the leader board. Obviously there would be a lot of non-voters as most of these countries are no longer with us, so if everyone is up for it you'd be random.org assigned a country to be 'yours' if we have more people than countries then getting a country would be on a first come-first serve basis with preference given to those who missed out next time. Naturally the 'old guard' would not need to be assigned a county as we already have our own. If you don't get a country you can still vote/participate! If the interest in this part is low then I'll look at scrapping points deductions for all of those who did vote in the original contests and giving deductions to the 'old guard' countries that are participating today and those that didn't vote originally. (Tyron, if you voted in BJSC:RELOADED your deduction would be ignored for BJSC V.) This wouldn't replace the results of the original contests, but be a spin-off to introduce the newer members to the contests origins and some classic BJSC songs. If this gains any interest I'd start with BJSC I at the end of April/start of May following my holiday!
March 22, 201213 yr Sounds like fun, I missed all of this since I didn't join until XIV. Is Charis' Westlife cover still on YouTube? :kink:
March 22, 201213 yr I was honestly thinking that it'd be great to do something like this, well nothing as intricate as this, but similar, more music discoveries are great (I've been trying to work backwards using the Song thread bit by bit but it takes a while and this would give me motivation). So count me in for sure. ^_^
March 22, 201213 yr Author Sounds like fun, I missed all of this since I didn't join until XIV. Is Charis' Westlife cover still on YouTube? :kink: Nope :( It'll have to be removed from the contest giving BJSC I 23 instead of 24 entries. It'd have gotten nil points anyway given that the only reason they didn't last time was through vote fixing

March 22, 201213 yr Sounds interesting. Sometimes i'm wondering how these songs would do nowadays as we have more people in the contest with wider taste of music. I think a song that would've done well in the early contest could be a flop now. So it would be interesting to see what happens. Another idea in my mind if every country could pick one of their past entries which song would win.
March 22, 201213 yr I doubt it'll work as there's hardly anyone left who participated back then. Mdice, Farahtyn, Allecian, The Old 4 (cool name right? :D ), Botanikka, Eledan, Land of Jack, Sangria. But it sounds alright I guess. I started participating from BJSC 4 onwards so the first 3 contests aren't likely to interest me much. Too much attention/alienation for the veterans as well. It's not just The Old 4 who's celebrating the 5th birthday.
March 22, 201213 yr God YES. I always thought it was ridiculous that this got shouted down to begin with. I'd happily rerun up and beyond the first fifteen contests if demand was there - it'd be great for a lot of new people to be introduced to the old contests. As an aside though, I think it'd be better to run V as an OBF.

On your latter point, you may as well say 'well I only started paying attention to Eurovision from 2009 onwards so I won't do any of the Super Eurovisions until then'. It's not exactly alienating either?!

As an aside though, I think it'd be better to run V as an OBF. I don't know if I'd go as far as XV but if there is great demand then we could always run a few of these every year leaving a buffer in place so we don't catch up with current day BJSC. I'd quite like to run them as they were, but I'll see how the semi-final in BJSC II works out before I decide that for definite.
March 22, 201213 yr The semi-final in II is needed IIRC, but a semi to eliminate 3 songs (which would pass for a final today!) isn't at all in V, I don't think...
March 22, 201213 yr Author The semi-final in II is needed IIRC, but a semi to eliminate 3 songs (which would pass for a final today!) isn't at all in V, I don't think... Yeah that semi is needed. The three song elimination was part of what made BJSC V a hoot! Like I said, it'll depend how the first couple go as I'm not converting them to modern format so the top10 from Iv2.0 will AQ for IIv2.0
March 22, 201213 yr I just don't think many people will agree with this 'country assigning' idea. And how it's going to work if there's like 15 participants and 25 songs? Unless I'm missing something essential. Edited March 22, 201213 yr by Caïn
March 22, 201213 yr The whole point is to introduce people to what they weren't there for. On your latter point, you may as well say 'well I only started paying attention to Eurovision from 2009 onwards so I won't do any of the Super Eurovisions until then'. It's not exactly alienating either?! Well, you don't exactly represent one of the European countries in Eurovision, so it's all the same for everyone. Whereas participating in the contest you basically don't have any connection to isn't exactly super exciting (although it may be for some). It's like DNQing and having to watch the Final from the sidelines.
March 22, 201213 yr Yes for me. I think it'd be a great idea. As long as I'm not assigned some random act/song which I have no interest in :D
March 22, 201213 yr I'd be interested too! But as long as it doesn't mean that the normal contest would stop for ages :) EDIT: Just seen that this will run alongside the normal contest, so that's fine! Edited March 22, 201213 yr by Ryan741
March 22, 201213 yr It's a good idea but I don't like being given a random country. Just have it that anyone wanting to participate can.
March 22, 201213 yr This sounds rather interesting, more for reminiscence purposes from V to XIII (Assuming it ends up going as far as that!)
