I'd like to see them try their hand at some more electronic fare but in a more Industrial style than before. Think Nitzer Ebb, Front 242 and the like. I think that could be interesting. Nevertheless I will no doubt check out the album

I like the new song. It's a bit 'What I've Done' part 3 for me though, not that it's a bad thing.

OH MY GOD HOW DID I FORGET THIS WAS TODAY. Opening post edited with album release date, cover and tracklisting.

First listen to "Burn It Down", it's lacking the lets-throw-everything-at-the-wall approach of "The Catalyst" and the main synth riff sounds a bit tacky but it largely delivers. Basically "New Divide" crossed with "Blackbirds".

Such a good album cover.

Such a good album cover.

Tis, I'm very impressed although not sold on the title yet.

Only the first two albums were brilliant for me, although they've had a handful of decent songs since.

I hope this can be a return to form, but I won't hold my breath. Great album cover as someone said though!

I used to love them so much, yet I just don't feel that excited by this :( I do like the song though, a lot better than The Catalyst

I'd say from their "lead" singles 'Somewhere I Belong' is still the best.

'Burn it Down' is quite strong too, I've been listening to it on repeat the whole day. It's definitely much stronger than 'Catalyst' and 'What I've Done'.

Linkin Park top-10 et al! It's VERY tough, I can compile a top-20 without any problems.

1. Crawling (Reanimation edition)

2. With You (Reanimation edition)

3. Blackout

4. Breaking the Habit

5. Faint

6. By Myself

7. Easier to Run

8. Numb

9. Papercut

10. Somewhere I Belong

'Burn it Down' is at about 11-15 at the moment. But speaking in (our beloved) popularity bars, if #1 is 100% then #15 is still at about 60-70, it's that consistent.

01. Numb

02. Breaking The Habit

03. In The End

04. New Divide

05. What I've Done

06. Crawling

07. Papercut

08. One Step Closer

09. Faint

10. Numb/Encore (if that counts?)

the top 3 are all amazing, the rest are all very good too )not counting the new one yet obvs) the only single I've not been massively keen on is Somewhere I Belong, the singles that followed it were so much better. Breaking The Habit remains one of the most underrated songs ever

Review I did today:

No, I haven’t suddenly developed acute pyromania (that’s been there for years) - three days after its première, I thought the time was right to do a quick review of Linkin Park’s new single and the lead track for their upcoming fifth album Living Things.

I make no secret of the fact that in recent years I’ve been a massive LP fan. I wasn’t quite old enough to get into them during their early 2000s nu metal heyday, but “What I’ve Done” (still my favourite) really grabbed me and I swiftly got into 2007’s much-maligned Minutes to Midnight before investing in their previous two efforts. I have mixed feelings about 2010’s A Thousand Suns, and was always ready to reserve judgement on it fully until I saw whether its experimental leanings came to fruition with their next effort.

“Burn It Down” doesn’t really give us a satisfying answer. Aside from a welcome return to rapping from Mike Shinoda, its structure shares much with 2009 stopgap single “New Divide” which was in itself something of a retread of the aforementioned “What I’ve Done”.

What is different here is the greater use of electronics hinted at by the last album, with the song’s main riff coming not from a guitar but a synth. On first listen this seemed a little unsubstantial but in a decent set of speakers it’s offset nicely by crunchy bass and automaton-like drumming. Chester Bennington’s voice is as clear and distinctive as ever, and the song’s chorus sticks in your head nicely.

All this would be fine if it weren’t for the fact that it seems remarkably conventional when compared to the madcap structure and ambitious instrumentation that was displayed on the last album’s lead single “The Catalyst”. However, recent band interviews have hinted that “Burn It Down” was picked for this very reason - this is an old-fashioned first single and one it’s very easy to imagine staying on radio playlists for months to come. Experimentation can wait until the album - for now, this is a satisfying comeback.

8/10

Wasn’t really as short as I was hoping…

As for an LP top 10:

01 What I've Done

02 In The End

03 Bleed It Out

04 Points of Authority / 99 Problems / One Step Closer (with Jay-Z)

05 The Catalyst

06 Waiting For The End

07 Papercut

08 Faint

09 Numb

10 One Step Closer

"Burn It Down" is nowhere near yet but it probably will be eventually.

This new single is actually really good :o

My LP top 10:

1 Breaking the Habit

2 Crawling

3 One Step Closer

4 In the End

5 Faint

6 From the Inside

7 Leave Out All the Rest

8 Numb

9 Papercut

10 Waiting for the End

Ooh, a Linkin Park top 10, I can do that.

1 What I've Done

2 Numb / Encore (with Jay-Z)

3 In The End

4 Numb

5 Breaking The Habit

6 One Step Closer

7 Crawling

8 Somewhere I Belong

9 Bleed It Out

10 New Divide

If Numb / Encore doesn't count then Faint would be #10.

Since we're all at it

1. Papercut

2. In The End

3. One Step Closer

4. Wretches And Kings

5. Bleed It Out

6. Crawling

7. Numb

8. What I've Done

9. Somewhere I Belong

10. Breaking The Habit

Like I've said before not really a big fan. They always seem to disappoint me and in this list after #6 I can't say I really like them. They're just OK.
