kworb: The pop bars are not actually frozen, but my program wasn't built for this ridiculous rounding, it doesn't see that they've changed. I'll take care of that when I get home.

But I'm really sad, I don't want this change to be permanent.

Hopefully the get back to normal soon, I wanna see how far 212 is from #7!

Surprises me how The Wanted are perceived as this HUGE boyband on the basis they can shift singles. Their album sales aren't brilliant, and it's being successful in that market that leads to longevity.

1D have done well but I actually expected them to do even better in the UK given the hype. Rushing them straight to the states smacks of striking while the iron is hot. I believe their fall will be as dramatic as their rise to fame. Any artist that is over exposed runs the risk of a short shelf life.

I would say that shifting singles and a decent amount of albums is better for longevity than shifting albums and a decent amount of singles.

I think all three boybands have clear strengths as shown by Glad You Came & What Makes You Beautiful doing so well in the states, but clear weaknesses too, The Wanted & One Direction's other singles and albums underperformed a bit and JLS' cracks are starting to show now that their just pounding out the same old stuff and just thinking about success rather than making a wide appealing single, for this reason unless they can turn it around, it looks like JLS' time is starting to fade and the other two boybands may be ahead atm, but unless they can sustain this new found massive success (in The Wanted's case, the new single sounds like it will), they could meet the same fate.

Wheatus 24 :D :o top 40 again please! highest We Are Young fake is at 23 :( release already!

Can I just ask - how has 1D's album underperformed? Sure, it wasn't a #1, but it got sales of about 120k, right? And Rihanna was released the same week, so they had no chance against her. It's still top 40 now, and many of those weeks they've been above Talk That Talk.
Oh yeah, I forgot to say. Go Azealia! Please stay in the top 10 over the weekend. If it drops out and then plummets next week due to Radio 1 removing her I will die.
Kworb and LivePopBars seems to be running.... a little strange on me. I'm slow on the update so does anyone know what's happening with them?

You're coming across a little defensive loon-esque here :P ALthough this is me when someone dares question Carrie's sales I guess, so loon away

I've got a long list of people who I loon over, 1D are on that list. :P Sorry, I've had 1D arguments many a time with some stubborn people on other forums, so I'm sort of used to defending them from anything.

They should easily have been able to beat Rihanna to #1 IMO. Rihanna isn't a massive albums act. GGGB and Loud both did well but other than that... And 1D did 100k less than JLS did in their opening week, with the hype around them they should have at least got close to the success of 'JLS'.

I was about to say something similar. It's about expectations and amounts invested and with amount of hype and saturation we've had for One Direction I would say the album has under performed as well. Its a similar story to say Man City coming second in the league being seen as a failure because of the amount that's been invested in acheiving success. Whereas Newcastle coming 6th after spending virtually nothing is seen as success even though they finish lower.

Looks like We Are Young Singers will be heading for the top 40 next week unless either they get deleted again or the real version gets added on Sunday. Could even get there this week if it keeps climbing.

Speaking of which I need to go update the fake versions thread.

It seems that iTunes have decided to make the pop bars less accurate and rounding them to the nearest 5%. We don't know yet if this will be permanent, or just an iTunes glitch, but the person running Kworb is going to try and sort it out later :)

The fake WAY could get top 10 actuallly, or it will at least get near definitely. It has 3 more days before the probable release anyway, it would make more sense to release at midnight tonight to minimise loss of sales, even if that would mean debuting relatively low. It'll get to number 1 next week anyway I imagine, or if not it will definitely get there in the next 2/3 weeks, and it would still easily get #2 behind Carly I'd imagine, can't see it any lower than that tbh.

I don't like it that much, but it does get better with repeated listens.

That's exactly what I thought when it was entered into BJSC. On first listen I didn't know if I liked it or not, but after playing it several times it started to click and in the end topped my chart back in December. :D

They are at their height so it won't be yet. They are still on their first album. However when I read yesterday they are playing Madison Square Garden, I thought it's ridiculous. This is just a testament to how things are right now. Playing MSG based on what? What Makes You Beautiful?. There only US hit and not even a huge one yet. It shows its all hype and if you can be seen enough how you can fool the public. Its more so now than ever. When I think of some of the artists they have played that arena. BTW I have nothing personal against ID, I've said before that One Thing is a good pop song. My point is a more general one that all it seems to take to be successful now is telling people you are. Sorry I know we've gone a bit off topic.

Not just One Direction, the same happened with Lady Gaga and Lana Del Rey. We recently saw for ourselves Lana Del Rey getting to perform on some of the biggest TV shows in the US before having even released an album!! WTF?!? And the other one, before even her second single became a hit people in the media were saying she's an icon, legendary, etc. It's ridiculous, and quite sad to be honest. But a good record label is able to hype up an artist and make them well-known before their career has really taken off (which makes a lot of the general public feel like they're watching the artist rise to fame, making them feel more attached to the artist).

With One Direction, it seems a little bit more natural at least, since it's been largely their obsessive UK fanbase tweeting about them constantly for the past 18 months which has helped them get known in the US.

YESSS!!! Go Azealia!!!! :cheer:
