Posted April 15, 201213 yr Has anyone noticed this as well ? As soon as MDNA's second weeks sales were announced the haters come out in full force. I can understand that people don't like her music or Madonna the person that's fine but why spend time writing hate articles etc.
April 15, 201213 yr Oh I agree - obviously not liking her/her music for whatever reason is fine but it's ridiculous how many people will waste time writing paragraph after paragraph just to state a point that they dislike her. I think mainly people just don't like her styling right now, for example in the Girls Gone Wild video (which is frequently mentioned in complaints about her) was largely seen as Madonna acting far too young for a 52 year old. And of course the 'flop' claims (mainly from ridiculous stans of Lady Gaga and the like), which are ludicrous given what an iconic star Madonna is and how much she's sold in the past! Everyone's allowed a relatively less successful era in their career, especially if they're as huge as Madonna! At the end of the day, I'm disappointed over how MDNA has done but you can't label the woman a flop!
April 15, 201213 yr Author I think people love the fact her sales went down (well they were never gunna stay the same, when your at the top the only way is down) so they pounced with what ever stories they could make up and everyone seems a critic. I think people don't like her because she's ambitious and unapologetic about it. She really pushed the boundaries like non one else before and that causes some backlash for people who can't stand her. In my own view, she shouldn't need to face this 30 years on. She should be praised a bit for her staying power. How many big time artists are still going after 30 years of course MDNA was never going to be her biggest selling album ever. If she wants to promote the album this way that's her choice not mine, it's her work. Edited April 15, 201213 yr by SweetCandy
April 15, 201213 yr I don't see why everyone is hating. She's still breaking records - like overtaking Elvis for the most number one albums by a solo artist in the UK, and going to number one on iTunes in 50 countries in just one day. Yes, MDNA is looking likely to be one of her least successful eras, but she still managed to get another number one album - being number one is a great achievement, whatever it sold to get there or how many weeks it spent there. If you've sold more than any other album in one week, that's great, surely?
April 16, 201213 yr Author Madonna doesn’t need all your luvin’ From the article by David Deal on superhypeblog.com: Wow. Madonnas critics really have their knives out this week. But she might end up having the last laugh. As you might have heard, sales of her latest album, MDNA, suffered the biggest second-week drop in chart history. Since the news broke, the highly regarded Lefsetz Letter has stated bluntly that Madonna has lost touch with her audience. Forbes contributor Roger Friedman blames Madonna for creating boring songs and not caring. The problem is that her naysayers are measuring the wrong metric. Especially for multi-media brands like Madonna, sales of compact discs dont count for much anymore and havent for about 10 years. The real action for the Madonnas, U2s, and Bruce Springsteens of the world comes from sales of tickets and merchandise. We wont be able to assess the health of the Madonna brand until the sales results are known for her 2012 World Tour, which begins on May 29 in Israel and comes to North America on August 28. So far, reports of preliminary ticket sales have been largely positive, but its best to wait until actual revenues are reported. Ironically, MDNA was engineered to realize a sales drop certainly not to the magnitude that Madonna probably expected, but a drop was indeed part of the plan. As Billboard reported, "MDNAs" large fall was expected, as its debut was bolstered by sales gained from a concert ticket/album promotion as well as pre-orders from iTunes." In other words, the CD supports the tour, not the other way around - a strategy that makes perfect business sense for a well established act.
April 16, 201213 yr For those of us with old enough memories we recall she was written off during "Erotica" and "American Life" periods so it's nothing new. The truth is that no artist is regularly topping the charts as often as Madonna does at the age she is. Age wise only Susan Boyle is comparable and almost certainly won't make No 1 with her next album given her ever diminishing first week tallies, even then she is only 3 years into her "career" as such. It's about the long game, and on that front she really is in a league of her own (no pun intended).
