Released on 18th June in the UK [unless it gets pulled forward], the next single from Maroon 5 after 'Moves Like Jagger' which went on to be the 2nd biggest seller of 2011, 'Payphone' featuring rapper Wiz Khalifa.

I think Radio 1 will get on board with them this time and that it'll be an easy top 3 for the band, possibly #1 depending on the competition. I'm already loving it so am hoping for the same.

I generally like both artists but this is sub-standard. I'd rather it was a top 10 hit that fell out pretty quickly but I reckon it'll go top 3.
Top 3 for both think and want. It's good but it doesn't deserve to be their first number one. MLJ is much better. I have the feeling Payphone will be lucky to spend 7 weeks top 20 let alone 7 weeks at #2. With support from Capital and possibly Radio 1 I think it'll debut at either 2 or 3.

I've said top 10, I really couldn't see them getting another big hit but its progress in the USA so far is sadly hinting that they could. Seriously, who decided it was suddenly okay for this awful band to be successful again? :(

(Not heard the song but I don't see how I'd like it as Adam's voice is the main reason I hate them so much - 'This Love' being on The Voice the other day showed that it was actually a quite good song, just rendered unbearable by that voice. It's only tolerable in small doses as on 'Heard 'Em Say' and 'Stereo Hearts').

I actually love it now, it just flows so nicely. I would say, I think the song is so sweet and gentle that the swearing in the chorus and in Wiz's verse just seem a little out of place? I want it to do very well though.

I agree it flows very nicely, nice lil song.

And gawgeous Adam can do no wrong for me  The pointless addition of Wiz makes the song less enjoyable though.

And why ever not?

Well, for the simple reason that, IMO, I don't think it's good enough. For me, it has no hook.

As for the idea of it being #1 - well, if MLJ couldn't do it, then I can't see any way in hell this one will!

And before you jump to a erroneous conclusion, for once it *isn't* a rap thing - I gave up before Wiz's contribution started, though that's not to say it wouldn't have sealed the deal if I had been able to stick it out long enough. ;)

How about the general music buying public decided? Seriously, I love the input you put into this site Bre, but your constant dissaproval of anything Maroon 5 gets really annoying. I'm a bit of a lurker on these forums. I generally post every now and then and yes I am biased in that I like Maroon 5. It was even more annoying back when MLJ was doing really well throughout the whole of late last year. It's ok not to like a track or even a band and even to state that but the numerous occasions you do it, it just becomes tedious and like I say I love the input you put into these forums. I have my dislikes and likes and it's obvious you do as well. Sorry if I'm coming across as too strong here, it's just something I constantly see a lot from you on these forums and it's the only negative thing I have to say about you.

Awful band in your opinion I suppose. One of my favourite bands, if not, my favourite. I've been listening to them since I was 14 and I've grown up with them. They have a lot of wonderful gems on their albums that people never hear and just mainly judge on the singles they put out.

As for the song, I love it! It seems more "Stereo Hearts" than anything like MLJ to be perfectly honest.

I also have grown up with maroon 5...... 3 albums in 10 years so far, its not like their prolific but each album has elvoved into a slightly new sound. I really came to accept that maroon 5 just was not relevent anymore (especially in the UK) UNTIL MLJ. Stills angers me that some people develop a hate for music due to its popularity, maroon 5 have not promoted MLJ at all in the UK and they were not in control of its massive sales.... just a great track!!

I was worried about Payphone when i first heard the details of it.......... but then i heard it, Maroon 5 doing what they do best, creating likeable catchy songs.

Want this to be their first Uk no.1, they deserve it!!

I think this'll make Top 3 (#2 to be precise; if This Love, Makes Me Wonder and Moves Like Jagger couldn't get there, I can't see this getting there either!), but it won't enjoy anything close to the longevity or sales of Moves Like Jagger. Radio 1 seem to play that sometimes after initially snubbing it, so they MAY playlist this, failing that, the music channels will be all over the video anyway!

As for want, I'm gonna go with Top 5, because it's not as strong as any of their previous Top 5 hits imo, but I want to see them do well so they don't give up on the UK! (We never really got any of the Hands All Over singles after Misery underperformed, did we?)

I also usually hate them but Moves Like Jagger got me in the end.

But MLJ *did* make the top 2... :P

He means can't make it to the top spot.

Both "Makes me wonder" and "Moves like Jagger" got #2.

Yeah, that's what I meant. :P

In the US they had 3 other songs off the 'Hands All Over' that charted including the brilliant ballad 'never gonna leave this bed' which i expected to be a hit over here, kinda following in the same direction as 'she will be loved' but not quite as big. 'Misery' only hit #30 here in UK...... crazy.

I was more pointing out the fact that it's such a blindingly obvious hit - no hook or not - that to say it won't make the top 40 is a bit barmy.
