The OCC revised their 80s year end lists in 2021 and they said 'Into the Groove' sold 793k in 1985. I'm guessing the 562k figure they gave earlier today before updating the article really was the post-1994 sales as that would bring its total to 1.355m which rounds up to 1.4m (plus it'll have achieved a small amount of physical sales after 1985).

The new article also says 'Into the Groove' has sold 907,500 pure sales, an increase of 30k since August 2016. Only a nearly 30 years to be an official million seller!

Last known streaming total was 36.1m in September 2023, an increase of 18.3m streams.

'Into the Groove' had 191k post-1994 sales as of the w/e 20 December 2019 - assuming the 562k figure is its current post-1994 total, that means its averaged 1,266 chart sales since. At the rate, it would be certified Platinum in March 2026.

Glad they updated it! 1.4 million is huge!

@Liam.k. I have three more positions to add to the 'Finally Enough Love' chart run before position #116. They are 118-116-113 in that order.

It's 80s sales were 723k based on the Gallup multiplier of the time (that includes sales from the rest of the 80s). Those 2021 "revisions" are a hot mess😄

Oh I know, don’t worry! Think I’ve used the same 80s sales as you in the opening post. Just always useful to work out how the OCC have worked out their own sales.

Just have to remember that when Into The Groove is certified Platinum, the OCC has the 80s figures at 838K (based on the 562K post 1994 figure they accidentally posted) which will put it at 1.438M on their end.

Like a Virgin and Into the Groove should reach Platinum next year too.

@Liam.k. I have more missing positions to add to the Finally Enough Love chart run, they are 113-119-118-113-106 in that order before #90. The #123 you have before those numbers Chartplus shows it was #122 that week. I plan to get the rest of the missing chart positions in the near future.

This topic of Madonna's 80s singles + post 1994 sales + old certification levels = a massive headache for me!

These 5 singles were certified in the 1980s for 500,000 in sales:

Madonna Papa Don't Preach Sire Gold Single 01.08.1986 16.06.1986 (+) old cert levels: 500,000
Madonna Borderline Sire Gold Single 01.02.1986 13.01.1986 (+) old cert levels: 500,000
Madonna Crazy For You Geffen Gold Single 01.09.1985 28.05.1985 (+) old cert levels: 500,000
Madonna Into The Groove Sire Gold Single 01.08.1985 12.07.1985 (+) old cert levels: 500,000
Madonna Like A Virgin Sire Gold Single 01.01.1985 09.11.1984 (+) old cert levels: 500,000

But, since Gold is now 400,000. These singles need 200,000 in sales plus streams/units before they can be certified Platinum?

To me, I would think they would only need 100,000 units to be certified Platinum. That would be easier, but of course it probably doesn't work that way.
