Surprised about Girlfriend! :o But I do think that would've been a good #1.

The single cover of Give It To Me is awful. Luckily I have the album version of the song, so never have to look at it.

Girlfriend?! Another awful promotion then. :puke2:

Hopefully we'll have the prospect of an actual good song getting promoted tomorrow. I think Foundations should be safe to nudge in a solitary week on Umbrella's last official week, where it only narrowly lost to Rihanna and then again to Timbaland the following week with a relatively big increase in sales (which should be able to cancel out Rihanna being ahead for two of the weeks that count under this system).

Fearful for poor brave Robyn. Don't take my moment away from me Gezza. :(

It did climb 5-1 so perhaps the sales from those first two weeks might just help keep Robyn at no. 1 before Kanye West overtakes (wishful thinking I know :( ).

Actually Kanye went 3-1 didn't he?

He did.

I remember that sales were close and that Robyn almost got a second week at #1 at the time so she doesn't deserve to be demoted! However Timbaland will be the main threat I think as he went 1-2-3 in the time Robyn went 5-1-2 so I can see him holding on before Kanye takes over.

Okay, I am NOT happy about Deja Vu or Smack That. :coffee:

And looking at 2007's #1s, I'm worried about Give It to Me.

It's a really really underrated song. Someone here - I think it was gooddelta - claimed that it would never have got to number 1 if it didn't have Justin and Nelly F on it. That may well be, but no matter who did it it would have been great.

Kanye's Stronger is such an awful song. I dont understand how anyone can have any time for his songs that lift huge, well known samples and uses them as the sole hook. When he does that he's no better than Will Smith. Stronger is the one I hate most because I love Daft Punk so much.

I always thought 'Give It To Me' was average. It might have even been me who said the song only did well because it featured Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado. Although to be honest, it was Timbaland's gruff vocals on 'GITM' that destroyed the song for me.

I much prefer 'The Way I Are' (even Timbaland's vocals are less gruff, therefore more tolerable) and 'Apologize'.

I absolutely detest Apologise. The Way I Are was okay I guess but he really should have remained a producer for other people and never graced the microphone himself.

I'm a big fan of Kanye (and I don't even mind his 'using a sample as the only hook' songs) but 'Stronger' is the one thing from him I can't stand. Frankly pisses over (in a bad way) a brilliant song by Daft Punk.

Right time to post the rest of 2007 which was a lot less exciting than it COULD have been....

MCFLY- TRANSYLVANIA/ BABY'S COMING BACK- NON NUMBER ONE

NEW PEAK POSITION: 6

A song so ridiculous in its chart run that any sane person would be surprised if t weren't in this thread! A chart career that reads 1-20-39-59-out must rank among the worst ever and means that McFly are left with just a solitary chart topper in this thread out of all 7 of their real world No 1 hits.

NEW NUMBER ONE- 28.07.07- KATE NASH- FOUNDATIONS (1 wk)

Finally finding a way to put a chart injustice right, "Foundations" spent 5 weeks at No 2 losing out by under 200 copies on two seperate occasions and is promoted here thanks to those two narrow defeats plus a sales hike on 04.08.07 which allows it outpace "Umbrella" (ended that songs run prematurely at 9 wks) and keep ahead of "The Way I are", well for a week anyway.

I agree with that. I like the song, but it obviously wouldn't have been as big as it was without Justin and Nelly. It went straight to #1 on US iTunes when it was released. A Timbaland solo song just wouldn't have been able to manage that (at the time). Timbaland's verse on the song is so strange though. Dissing his own co-producer is a bit much!!

Silly girls only went and released the week before "X Factor" winning single didn't they! Even if it was Leon Jackson it still sold over 275k making it an envitablity that this would get demoted, it was IIRC only available via Tesco at the time....

Bolded tracks debuted at No 1

Timbaland makes his vocals gruff on purpose for some reason. Here's the acapella of The Way I Are for example, so you can hear all the vocal effects he uses. In the verses he layers and echos his vocals or something, so they're really "grizzly", whilst in the chorus his voice is a lot higher and "smooth":

With regards to Kanye West, he's always going to use a lot of sampling, no matter what, so you probably shouldn't listen to his music at all if you can't stand sampling, because you'll only be disappointed. Same goes for Timbaland, he samples all the time (even in The Way I Are he does, and he co-produced Stronger), and practically every other artist in their genre. It's completely normal, it's never going away.

"With Every Heartbeat" managed to keep its position by a margin of 1,098 copies :D

:D

So the week it entered at no. 5 helped. Otherwise had Robyn been a new entry at no. 1, she would've definitely been demoted here.

Also  at 'Foundations' making no. 1 - one of my fave singles from 2007.
