TAKE THAT- GREATEST DAY- NON NUMBER ONE

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/a1/Take_that_greatest_day_single_cover.jpg

NEW PEAK POSITION: 2

Also falling foul of Leona Lewis, Take That also lose their first chart topper on this thread. Another track that was doomed from the off due to the phenomenal debut of "Run" the song was lucky to even get No 2 beating Beyonce by just 740 copies to the position, I don't really thing they can complain it's one of their weakest singles in my opinion.

Poor 'The Promise' :( I don't begrudge GA's two cover singles being demoted, but this was a worthy #1 for the girls!
 That's not my name is one of the best No.1s EVER! So glad it was an "official" No.1!!

KELLY CLARKSON- MY LIFE WOULD SUCK WITHOUT YOU- NON NUMBER ONE

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/e7/My_Life_Would_Suck_Without_You.jpg

NEW PEAK POSITION: 2

So close for Clarkson who misses out replicating her real world position by just over 1,400 copies to that evil Flo Rida. However it was another song that took advantage of a poor sales week in the charts and topped the Top 40 on sales of 51k, a poor tally for 2009, and here it flounders making No 2 its peak.

VANESSA JENKINS AND BRYN WEST FEATURING SIR TOM JONES & ROBIN GIBB- BARRY ISLANDS IN THE STREAM- NON NUMBER ONE

NEW PEAK POSITION: 3

Well here's a turn up for the books, normally it's the massive debut week sales of comic relief tracks that demote other records around them, but 2009's was a damp squid all round proved here by its relegation. Between Flo Rida and Lady Gaga the challenge was easily seen off.

Probably going to see a lot of demotions from now on as weeks at the top get ever smaller!

Kelly Clarkson's song is a bit of a guilty pleasure...reminds me of being in New York that Easter and the youth hostel seemingly playing both that and Flo Rida's 'Right Round' on loop!

NEW NUMBER ONE- 02.05.09- LA ROUX- IN FOR THE KILL (1 Wk)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/12/La-roux--In-For-The-Kill-.jpg

Yay promotion time! La Roux add "In For The Kill" to their No 1 tally thanks to sheer persistance. Bridging the gap as Calvin Harris's "I'm Not Alone" faltered and Tinchy Stryder's "Number One" hadn't quite got into its stride yet it was truly one of the big hits of the year and thusly a deserved promotion in my book!

YES for La Roux getting promoted and Comic Relief getting demoted! I hope Bulletproof can hang on too and not get knocked down by Cascada.

Maybe it's because I didn't watch Gavin & Stacey much but 'Islands In The Stream' has got to be the least "comical" Comic Relief song ever. I had hoped at the time it'd fail to make no. 1 but alas it did - but the way it rocketed downwards spoke volumes.

Also not fussed over 'If I Were A Boy' being demoted. Still think had The Killers record company released 'Human' on CD single, those extra sales would've got them a no. 1 in the UK charts. I remember the top 3 was something like Beyonce (48k), X Factor 2008 (46k) and The Killers (43k) or something incredibly close. Still, 'Human' would've most likely been demoted here too but it was easily my fave single around at the time.

Have you not thought that the reason it sounds more similar to the verse live may be because he doesn't actually do the chorus on record? It's not like he can have D.O.E. at every live performance.

I'm think it is Timbaland who sings in the chorus. D.O.E only does the (first) rap verse, as far as I'm aware.

I'm actually familiar with the chart runs songs had from this point onwards, so I can finally make proper predictions. I'm not surprised to see In For the Kill get promoted to #1. It was a massive song, and the biggest #2 of the year.

I'm honestly not sure what else will get #1 this way in 2009, although I think some songs like Sexy Chick and I Gotta Feeling might get quite a few extra weeks.

I'm annoyed that Never Leave You will probably not get #1 this way (it got #1 in between 2 weeks of I Gotta Feeling, it has NO chance ). I hope Meet Me Halfway still makes it though (it had MASSIVE sales, and an incredible chart run, but it was such a competitive time in the charts).

Also has a song had 2 runs at #1 doing it this way so far? This is around the time when songs returning to #1 became more regular in the real charts, so it might happen this way aswell. It happened to Boom Boom Pow, I Gotta Feeling and Bad Romance in 2009. I think I Gotta Feeling's run will merge into one, but Boom Boom Pow could get 2 seperate runs.

Don't Stop Movin' and Hips Don't Lie both had two separate runs at #1 here I think. It tends to be very likely when a song returns to #1 after a gap of more than a week because it means that the song(s) that had been stopping it is guaranteed to have outsold it for the majority of the three weeks counted in this system, whereas a song that had a one-week interruption would have only been outsold for one out of the three in almost every case and thus would get an uninterrupted run instead.

PIXIE LOTT- MAMA DO (UH OH, UH OH)- NON NUMBER ONE

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/9e/MAMADO(UHOHUHOH).jpg

NEW PEAK POSITION: 2

A solitary week at No 1 is always dangerous for the purposes of this thread, and weekly changes at the top, as we know, means something will have to give and in June 2009 that was Pixie Lott's debut hit which runs into "When Love Takes Over" and comes off the worse.

TINCHY STRYDER FEATURING AMELLE- NEVER LEAVE YOU- NON NUMBER ONE

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/16/Stryder_feat_amelle.jpg

NEW PEAK POSITION: 2

Unable to unseat the mighty "I Gotta Feeling" on this version of the charts, Tinchy Fails to grab a second No 1 on the trot. It's first week victory over the Black Eyed Peas was 12k which was immediately clawed back the following week by a 14k deficit making a relegation here inevitable.

JAY Z FEATURING RIHANNA & KANYE WEST- RUN THIS TOWN- NON NUMBER ONE

http://nuclearfuzion.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/run_this_town_lyrics_video_jay_z_rihanna_kanye_west.jpg

NEW PEAK POSITION: 2

In the real world this came from behind to overturn a midweek advantage to the Sugababes "Get Sexy" but here it loses out to a consistant seller in David Guetta (again) with "Sexy Chick". For Jay Z it's a second demotion whilst for both Rihanna and Kanye it's the first failure they experience.

Boo at 'Run This Town' being demoted (not that I wasn't expecting it). I wonder if 'Empire State Of Mind' could just claw a promotion to #1 though? Probably unlikely because in the weeks it went 3-2-3, Taio Cruz went 1-1-4 (and David Guetta went 2-3-5) but it could be close-ish.
