I don't often comment here here but Rudimental really is one of the best number 1s to grace iTunes in recent times. I'd expect several more weeks at number one ahead...

How is it different from hundreds of other insipid urban ballads?

I didn't expect Rudimental to be a #1 hit though, not bad on first listen.

I agree... 'bad' is far too weak a term ro describe it. ;)

Nearly all of the top 15 is in red though, so it's not too bad! :kink:

I wonder what the basis of comparison is for Kworb assigning colours to songs? It can't be just in comparison to the #1, otherwise the #1 itself would never change colour?

19. Gay Barlow - Sing

Accidental or deliberate typo?

Rudimental is not urban, it is drum n' bass. The beat and production is very unique and it's not often that we get these types of songs anywhere near the top. I also love the trumpet solo in the middle of the song  Rudimental will hopefully be the first non-DJ Fresh act to get a drum n' bass song to #1 :yahoo:

Sorry, but it both looks & sounds urban to me, regardless of whether it is D&B as well.

Rudimental is urban, as drum n bass counts as urban, and I've heard it a lot on urban stations before. Urban music is also music that originates and/or centers around big cities, so in the US it's stuff like RnB and hip hop, in the UK it's stuff like grime and dubstep.

It's the 5th most-played song on Radio 1Xtra at the moment according to Compare My Radio (I swear Rihanna is ALWAYS #1 with her latest song whenever I check this ): http://comparemyradio.com/stations/BBC_1_Xtra

It's not really typically urban, and it's certainly not a ballad? That would probably be a start..

Wow. It'll probably be in the top 10 soon. Has another massive batch of songs been reduced now, or just that one song?

Why has no-one heard rudimentals great slice of drum and bass on here - its played 6 times a day on radio 1 for the past month and the only disgrace is that its been held back so long when it could have been no1 at least 2 weeks ago so might fall quicker - like next week if gary barlow climbs to no1 over the jubille weekend!!
Military Wives and Gary "I'm so humble and not at all pretentious" Barlow currently promoting the dire "Sing" on BBC Breakfast. Normally see songs rise after having this slot. Let's hope not!

I don't know what you guys are all on about. SING is a gimmick-y release but its not a bad song AT ALL.

I think one thing about those songs like Call Me Maybe, We Are Young, etc. is that the record labels didn't push them, and never intended to, but they were lucky enough to be introduced to millions of people through Justin Bieber or the Superbowl or Glee or whatever, and they took off and became hits by themselves. It's almost like they were chosen to be hits by the public, which is part of why I think they are so popular.

Except all of those were pushed extremely hard by their labels? At least in the US. Justin Bieber manages Carly and she is signed to his manager's record label so his viral video and all the promo he did were all deliberate. And Fueled by Ramen also pushed Fun song extremely hard: they went after the Glee producers to convince them to do the cover version and it wasn't easy. Both of them were pushed hard. Obviously not as hard as a new Rihanna song obviously but still...

And people wonder why I only ever listen to the radio for the Chart Show...

Loreen still on dark red and dropping :(

She's turned back to green since then, I really hope it can stabalise more now (and we all know that the best songs only manage to peak at #2 anyway :kink:).

Princess of China 59p :w00t: Its doing so well at normal price, so i'm guessing its going straight to top 10 now

Charlie Brown #72

Paradise #73

Kelly Clarkson's new song climbing well, #67
