Paloma  #11

VERY glad to see her sticking around

And her album is 3 and 4 at ITUNES... GREAT! (low sales anyway...)

It will DEFINITELY just be a blatant hump because of the Eurovision curse if Euphoria goes totally ignored, as you say it's perfect for the playlists. It's no different to We Found Love, Call My Name, Young and the other 'summer dance anthems' radio are loving, except done so much better with that extra special something. Released under normal circumstances, I have no doubt it would be a geniunely MASSIVE hit.

By David Guetta feat Loreen perhaps, even if it was EXACTLY the same song. Trying to persuade radio to play a song by an unknown Swedish act would be the hard part.

Looking at the top ten right now shows how wrong the hype lists got it last year - plenty of successful new artists - Rudimental, Loreen, fun., Carly Rae Jepsen, Rita Ora, Alex Clare, Lawson. None of these featured but at least we had a multitude of future flopstars that nobody cares about whatsoever

Well, Euphoria went into the top 10 on iTunes YESTERDAY, so give the radio stations a little bit more time before accusing them of things.

But I agree, it'll be silly if they don't playlist Euphoria (well, at least the stations that play dance/pop music, I'm not expecting Kerrang! to play it obviously ).

I see what you did there.

Gutted about loreen starting the post eurovision downward spiral / hoping that getting to number one caused enough attention to keep it in iTunes top 10 all week =[ she needs to get over here and start promoting!
It's possible, Ell and Nikki did promo over here last year, but then again she is from Enfield.
Radio playlisting or not, I think Loreen will hold up a lot better than previous Eurovision hits, it does seem to be a genuinely popular song over here and its not actually fallen that much over the past 24 hours
Lena came over here for a couple of interviews too I think the week after she won. I can remember her being on This Morning! :D

It would have been very impressive to actually guess that those acts would have such huge success though. I saw fun. supporting Paramore in 2010 and I wouldn't have thought in a million years they'd have possibly the biggest selling song of 2012.

I think the Sound of 2012 poll must have been one of the most difficult to do since there was no Duffy or Florence equivalent. So instead they went for "album sellers" like Michael Kiwanuka (although he was guaranteed a decent selling album he was never going to have any singles success, it was a daft choice in that respect) and Skrillex who was already massive underground.

It's such a shame that 'decent selling album' isn't even 100k in total these days :drama:

I know what you mean, it just seems so ironic that a ton of this year's big hits are by new artists yet the hype polls were very slim pickings.

 21. Sing (Commonwealth Version) [feat. Military Wives] - Gary Barlow & The Commonwealth Band

 49. Sing - Gary Barlow & The Commonwealth Band

 58. Here Comes the Sun - Gary Barlow & The Commonwealth Band

Still crawling upwards. None of the other tracks off the EP/album thing are even top 400.

Rudimental's EP is STILL at #2 on iTunes albums, if it's holding Paloma's higher version at bay (she's at 3 with the deluxe and 4 with the standard) it must still be selling quite significantly beyond pre-orders. Not as much as 'Sing' of course though. I really hope we get some clarification on where the EP sales are going tomorrow, although currently I'm thinking Rudimental have it in the bag even if the EP sales do go to the singles chart!

The Official Charts Company listed the Gary Barlow thing as an album when they posted a list of this weeks new releases on their website, so I assume thats how they'll class the ep when compiling the charts too (with cherry picks counting towards the singles chart as usual)

Also Radio 2 did playlist her so I reckon they may playlist Loreen as well.

Sadly, Loreen is going to spend the next week relaxing in the woods before doing any more promo anywhere.

Yes, it's a true story.

Good (if true). The album chart needs some life, and the single chart is exciting as it is this week!

On weird thing about the "Sound Of" poll for me this year was that I actually KNEW of probably half of those in there. Whilst usually I don't know any of them, or maybe just one.

I think one thing about those songs like Call Me Maybe, We Are Young, etc. is that the record labels didn't push them, and never intended to, but they were lucky enough to be introduced to millions of people through Justin Bieber or the Superbowl or Glee or whatever, and they took off and became hits by themselves. It's almost like they were chosen to be hits by the public, which is part of why I think they are so popular.

And all of them are also quite different-sounding to most of the other big hits. Which shows the record labels and artists aren't always right about which songs the public will like the most. Makes you wonder what other songs could be massive hits if they were lucky enough to be included in a viral Youtube video or something. Hopefully people in the music industry may learn from this and take a few more chances with their single choices, or the songs they make, or the artists they promote the most.

Heavy fall for Loreen: 95% to 85%. But, everyone else except Lawson is falling too so it's all good for now! :D
