March 22, 201312 yr Michael Owen retiring at the end of the season (on big surprise, life as pundit beckons..) Blackburn have sacked their manager.. AGAIN :basil: The BBC have used Owen a fair bit while he has been injured so they will presumably be looking to use him more next season. I don't understand why Appleton went to Blackburn in the first place. It's clearly a shambles of a club at the moment. In other news, Gus Poyet has chosen to stay with Brighton after being approached by Reading :cheer: That said, if Laudrup leaves Swansea at the end of the season, I can see them possibly approaching Poyet. Assuming Brighton miss out on promotion, Swansea may be harder to resist.
March 24, 201312 yr Spent time since I got home from work watching Grimsby, sadly lost on penalties to Wrexham - pretty poor penalties from us to be fair, but always felt like it was off Wrexham's way, after they got a late penalty in normal time. Disappointed I couldn't have got down to Wembley to see it myself really.
March 24, 201312 yr I don't understand why Appleton went to Blackburn in the first place. It's clearly a shambles of a club at the moment. Leaving Blackpool wasn't a shock to me, they're equally a shambles (but of a different kind) and it was no surprise to see they struggled to then get anyone of note and ended up with Paul Ince. But Blackburn? Dear me. Still hoping Blackburn appoint Kenny Jackett who then appoint Appleton, so he can get knocked out of the FA cup for a fourth time this season!

It's hilarious that both Blackpool and Blackburn could still go down. It's so close down at the bottom end of the table in the Championship..
March 25, 201312 yr Blackburns biggest regret was sacking Sam Allardyce. I don't understand what's wrong with Blackburn, their team should be up towards the top of the league, although signing Nuno Gomes has proved to be a mistake. I don't think he's contributed anything and is no doubt on a high wage. It's frustrating that their refusing to give David Goodwillie a chance in the team, fantastic striker and him and Rhodes would be a great partnership.

It's frustrating that their refusing to give David Goodwillie a chance in the team, fantastic striker and him and Rhodes would be a great partnership. Well it did all start when they sacked Allardyce, but the fans never really warmed to him. His brand of football is ugly, but effective. But it's the sort of football that will lead you to mid-table security and that's about it really. It's boring to watch. Most Stoke fans want Pulis out for this reason aswell, cos they're bored of his style of football.
March 25, 201312 yr We seem to have skipped the mid table mediocrity stage and fans want Allardyce gone before we've even secured safety for definite. Madness.
March 25, 201312 yr Author We seem to have skipped the mid table mediocrity stage and fans want Allardyce gone before we've even secured safety for definite. Madness. Yeah it's a dangerous game. Football fans are fickle though. Allardyce is not a manager that is going to get you in to Europe every season, or make you play brilliant football. That brand of football is simple, but effective. But can be easily countered and everyone generally knows your game plan. I blame Sky.
March 26, 201312 yr I'd be happy with that for now, I wish we hadn't forced Curbishley out. He may well have only got us to 10th-15th for four years but it would have put us in the position to get someone who could take us somewhere, which Zola never was at the stage he took over.

Problem is these managers don't normally materialise unless you have some sort of club philosophy and identity where losing your manager doesn't mean you lose your identity. Patience is needed these days and a lot of fans just don't have it. Take Stoke, their fans want prettier football, but quite frankly they don't have the players to play pretty football.Pep Guardiola wouldn't be apply to turn them in to a decent team because they just don't have the players. Was a similar story at Chelsea with AVB, hell even Rafa's trying to do something. If you don't have the players to play the type of football you want it's extremely difficult. Hence why Liverpool shafted the likes of Carroll and Adam even at a massive loss.
March 30, 201312 yr Another point clear of danger for Carlisle though I would have preferred three of course. Next up is Sheffield United...
March 30, 201312 yr Sunderland have sacked Martin O'Neill apprently just heard about it. More soon I expect. Relegation-threatened Sunderland have announced they have "parted company" with manager Martin O'Neill. The Black Cats currently sit one point above the Premier League relegation zone with seven games to play after the 1-0 defeat by Manchester United. That result extended their winless spell to eight games. A successor to O'Neill, who joined the club in 2011, "will be made in the coming days" the club added. Edited March 30, 201312 yr by kenukcsf
March 30, 201312 yr It's far too close at the top of the Championship for my liking considering some of the games left to come :(
March 30, 201312 yr Sunderland have sacked Martin O'Neill apprently just heard about it. More soon I expect. Thank Goodness. O'Neil has been a huge disappointment as a manager. No manager has had us playing such negative boring football. Edited March 30, 201312 yr by truly talented
March 30, 201312 yr Apart from his first 10-12 games at Sunderland O'Neill has been dire since his first two seasons at Villa really, been able to get through on past glories, not much criticism because he's a darling of the media.

Well said. Can't believe the blind support from Sunderland fans on facebook.
March 31, 201312 yr I saw it coming, and he really hasn't delivered at Sunderland at all - but sacking a manager this close to the end of the season, and with Sunderland just 2 points away from relegation, makes this seem like a very risky thing to do. I do like Sunderland though, so I hope they can stay up.

I do like Sunderland though, so I hope they can stay up. The only thing that seems odd is that it wasn't done two weeks ago after they were terrible against 10 man Norwich. It's baffling that it took a 1-0 defeat to the runaway leaders for it to happen, you suspect that it's more down to Villa and Wigan's results that Sunderland's. As far as I'm concerned they have nothing to lose by doing it though, they looked dead certs to go down. If they can appoint a manager quickly (as opposed to Wolves pissing about last year) they might at least have given themselves a chance of staying up.
