September 23, 201212 yr Author First clean sheet in the league on Tuesday and an away win against Coventry. Mark Robins has a lot to do there. Now for Tottenham... Spurs fans are inpatient, and their team is not as good as last season. Could spring a shock. Mark Halsey needs his balls on a plate. Totally ruined the game today. Manchester United were absolutely dire. Their midfield really is terrible, no ball control at all. Can't see them winning the title unless their luck for fluky penalties keeps paying off.
September 23, 201212 yr It seems that no one wants to win it at the moment - the one team of the probable top 4 that everyone's written off is the one that's top of the table  I think it'll probably be City again once Mancini works out his best team.
September 23, 201212 yr Author Football actually depresses me way too much :( Doesn't depress me, just upsets me a little when people are already thinking Rodgers will get the sack when we'll finish Top 6 this season and Top 4 next season. 52% possession today with 10 men for 60 minutes. Amazing progress. We're a few players away from a really good team, just unfortunate injuries are creeping up on us already.
September 23, 201212 yr As much as I hate to say it, Rodgers does know what he's doing and I think you'll actually do rather well in the next couple of seasons if the board doesn't get rid of him.

The problem is you're actually playing really well but you just don't have anyone to actually put the ball in the net! It must be frustrating for a Liverpool fan to watch all those crosses they're suddenly making right now when they just let someone who can put those in go out on loan! Reina at least needs competition as well as he's having more and more dodgy moments. May I point out that that's the first penalty we've managed to score so far this season btw.

There were a number of marginal decisions which went Man U's way but I thought Halsey got them right. Ferguson admitted that they were poor but Liverpool didn't exploit that.

Yeah very frustrating there is no out and out goalscorer, but not too worried at the moment. When building a legacy the striker is always the one that can fit into the position last. We weren't that bad today at shooting. Some good saves were made, and we generally we unlucky. The board will stick with Rodgers as they know more than everyone else what he's trying to accomplish. Reina's been poor, but I put that down to the goalkeeping coach more than anything. There were a number of marginal decisions which went Man U's way but I thought Halsey got them right. Ferguson admitted that they were poor but Liverpool didn't exploit that. Really? I completely disagree. Shelvey was right to go, I'm not doubting that. But if Shelvey goes so does Evans. It was a derby game, and a 50/50 ball. Both players had both their feet off the ground and were not in control. Both should have walked or neither should. Notice how long it takes Halsey to take the decision. He had no idea what to do. Fergie got Shelvey sent off. The penalty was very debatable. Valencia had messed up the chance, it was only because Johnson was travelling back so fast that Halsey gave the penalty. If Valencia got one so should Suarez. Similarly for Van Persie when he went in two footed. Just wish these referees would be consistent. Man Utd were poor all game, but it wasn't a case of them having an off day. Liverpool bossed them even with 10 men because Liverpool have the players to keep the ball and Manchester United don't. Ok you can argue Liverpool didn't make all the possession count before the 40th minute, but the goal was coming and Liverpool were controlling the tempo. There is no way Liverpool would have lost that game with 11 men, and they only just did with 10.

I really don't see what Rodgers was on about there. Gary Neville made a good point about the challenge on Suarez. Look at the way his head went back. That made it look like an over-reaction. That and his reputation worked against him. I also think the defender made contact with the ball and Suarez more or less simultaneously. Liverpool dominated the first half without a doubt. Man Utd didn't even begin to play until they went behind. Even then Liverpool matched them at the very least. But that's not what counts. Utd won thanks to a brilliant goal by Rafael and a correct penalty decision.

Amazing progress. We're a few players away from a really good team, just unfortunate injuries are creeping up on us already. Yep Rodgers isn't the problem at all. So grateful that we got him rather than AVB and I'd expect and hope the owners back him in the next window It is still quite depressing seeing us dominate and fail to win. Although, yes today several decisions went against us It must be frustrating for a Liverpool fan to watch all those crosses they're suddenly making right now when they just let someone who can put those in go out on loan! I doubt we'd be able to play the style of football Rodgers wants with Carroll in the side. He'd slow everything down, give away posession and we'd easily resort to playing long ball football I like Carroll, but I'm sure most Liverpool fans will tell you they're not bothered about him leaving and probably spent the last 18 months moaning about him. It's only the fact that we didn't replace him that is frustrating. Complete incompetance from the board to allow a striker to leave without bringing in a replacement
September 23, 201212 yr http://www.zonalmarking.net/2012/09/23/liv...-behind-to-win/ Article really highlights what we've been saying that the sending off was pivotal - it meant that for Liverpool to continue to win the midfield battle they had to sacrifice pretty much any direct threat.

Utd won thanks to a brilliant goal by Rafael and a correct penalty decision. You're not allowed to go in two footed with stoods off the ground regardless whether you get the ball. He wasn't in control, neither was Shelvey. Poor from both players. Both should have walked. Well if Suarez's reputation went against him then it's poor refereeing and biased. I notice how Ashley Young and Cristiano Ronaldo's reputations never went against them. Not bitter, just asking why it's one rule for certain players but different for others. Poor officiating. The problem with the penalty I have is that it wasn't a stonewall one, nobody looks at it and says it's definitely a penalty. If that's given so then is the Suarez one. There was contact although not intentional, Valencia was looking for it as he'd ballsed up the chance by not taking an early shot. No wonder there are conspiracy theorists about when Ferguson mouthed off in the media this week that in 25 years Manchester United have only ever had one penalty at Anfield. I don't think Liverpool will hit full gear until mid-October/early November. Very encouraging signs, 3 very really good performances and 2 absolutely dreadful ones. We've played the best two teams in the Premier League off the park at Anfield this season, just need some luck and to cut out the mistakes now. Just don't know where both will come from.

Liverpool would not have lost that game if the sending off didn't happen. Guaranteed 100%. The only tactic Ferguson had left was to bring Scholes on try and win the ball. He played that card at half time and if barely worked against 10 men. At 65 minutes we tried to play out for a point by taking Sterling off for Henderson. Just unfortunate Suso played a hospital ball and a soft penalty was given.
September 23, 201212 yr Whether it was his reputation or not the way Suarez threw himself up in the air and exaggerated the fall made it look like he was playing for a penalty, did himself no favours. Neither did he when after the van Persie foul, the ref waves play on and he sprints from the edge of the area to moan at Halsey, so when the ball is in a position to be crossed, their one forward is in no position to be receiving the ball. How bad is Agger's injury looking? You seem very confident of a good finishing position and that may still be the case, but even if Liverpool do finish 6th I don't think they will be any nearer to the top 4 in terms of points than they were last season. Too many poor players still and not enough depth in any position apart from maybe the centre of midfield. Reina is a shadow of his former self, Enrique's form is so poor Johnson is having to play out of position, relying on a 17 year old and having no recognised forward beyond the first XI.

Of course referees shouldn't think about a player's reputation. However they are only human so it is inevitable that they will do. There's a simple solution for players like Suarez. Don't dive. Ever. Besides, it works both ways. If a player without a reputation for diving goes down, they may get the benefit of the doubt.

I'm more confident than I was 3/4 weeks ago. We're beginning to control games and dictate the tempo, and make clever runs off the ball. I don't think we'll be any nearer to Top 4 but I don't think anyone, not even Liverpool fans expect us to finish Top 4. It's a transition again. Getting used to the new system and playing possession football is the main thing for this season. We'll just probably do much better towards the end of the season, hopefully with 1/2 players bought in January. Just looking very unfortunate that Agger, Borini and Kelly may be out for a couple of months. No news yet, just Twitter.

September 28, 201212 yr Steve Kean has been 'forced to resign' as manager of Blackburn Rovers. I guess this was bound to happen sooner than later following the large number of Blackburn supporters wanting him gone. He left because his position had become 'untenable' He is the 4th Football League manager to go in less than 9 days following: Terry Brown (AFC Wimbledon) Gary Waddock (Wycombe) John Ward (Colchester) Edited September 28, 201212 yr by kenukcsfant2012
September 28, 201212 yr Wow, thought it would never happen! Although one of their senior directors said he knew nothing about it. Shambolic club.
