I'm just going to piss everyone off again and talk about how amazing Girls Aloud's new song is compared to this. I mean, 'Something New' is so brash, in your face and in the video the girls are constantly doing something and moving around. The chorus is huge and it even has some rapping and a chant. Why couldn't The Sats have done something like that? (after all it was Xenomania who produced Something New) What About Us is so f***ing generic and lifeless compared to it.

Vanessa should maybe do some rapping in The Sats stuff. I think she's capable of it.

I'm prepared for a huge backlash but again i'm going to say it, these girls/their team need to put more effort in. The video (and official version of the song) better not be a big let down because the competition right now is huge.

You're right, and this is why I would hate to be a Saturdays fan. When virtually every other girlband is going out there being interesting and showing personality, it must be incredibly frustrating to watch The Sats doing the same basic, tacky, generic-if-enjoyable crap over and over again. They're so dated, and it's not like their approach is even working. Their recent singles have surely only shown a general public very quickly tiring of them. Playing it safe with stuff like '30 Days' over and over will kill their career. Although it was trying to be interesting ('Notorious') that f***ed up their career in the first place so I guess I can understand the unwillingness to take risks.

I swear everyone has different views on there their career was f***ed. Varrying from JCGE onwards. At the end of the day they are still getting top 10 singles, and haven't been dropped. Not everyone is going to sell massive amounts of singles and albums. Yes things have dipped a bit recently, but The Sats have been constant sellers for the most part. Better than having one massive selling single then a huge drop off into nothingness and who were they territory.

To be fair, I personally think 'Something new' is a poor single choice for Girls Aloud. They've stepped down their game compared to the brilliant pop tunes they've realised over the years. I think 'What About Us' is a way better song BUT I do agree that it doesn't scream at you the way 'Something New' does. And definitely doesn't carry the personality and sass in comparison but you have to remember GA have 10 years of experience to bring to the table so naturally, they'll be freer about who they are in my opinion. The Saturdays have never been THAT in your face so maybe it's too late for them to start so.
*Sorry for the double post* but it's also funny that on the GA forum, the high majority of fans aren't impressed with the song so yeah...funny that :)
A handful of Buzzjack members disliking it doesn't mean anything other than... the fact a handful of Buzzjack members dislike it. ^_^

Many fans outside of Buzzjack dislike it.

It literally just seems that with The Saturdays, being a fan consists of

- A yearly album that is pretty good, but flops

- Dreadful single choices

- Very plain and ordinary videos full of posing and smiling

- A few mimed performances on the small TV shows

- A few mediocre live performances on the big TV shows

- An amazing live lounge performance

- Daily Mail articles every day showing what the girls are wearing

- Singles being released that go top ten and then plummet out of the top 40 within six weeks

- CONSTANT waiting on the "next single" to hopefully be "the big one"

They go away for ages and the best they can come up with is What About Us? When they've recorded tunes like All Fired Up, Get Ready Get Set, Faster, Higher, Ego etc in the past? It's just so dissapointing and a non event.

if its that bad, let go, move on, and enjoy your life

shadow2009, I have loved everything The Saturdays have put out so far and you should focus more on enjoying their music because at the end of the day they're a girlband and won't last very long whether they're extremely successful or not.
Eurgh, this is awful. Shadow is giving his opinion which is actually quite a fair/right opinion. How can you tell someone not to come back into the forum for having an opinion. I feel this forum has become way to serious. I mean i sang a Girls Aloud lyric and it got deleted, people need to lighten up!

WELL. Singing a Girls Aloud lyric in The Saturdays forum, in a thread about The Saturdays' new single when we (as mods) are trying to diffuse the argument by not having it turn into The Saturdays vs Girls Aloud, I felt it necessary to delete the lyric.

Plus, what did it really add to the conversation? Nothing, it was spam.

It's okay to have an opinion. Ramming your opinion down everyone elses throats like it's a fact... well, that's not okay.

I'm not saying that you can't have an opinion that is against The Saturdays, but I've always argued that if you dislike it/them so much.. ignore them.

Nobody asks you to listen to their music or invest time in them. If you're so unhappy being a fan, then don't be one. It's fairly simple really.

Moaning about their lack of success, lack of promotion, lack of anything isn't going to change things.. So why bother?

Have you ever thought maybe people support The Saturdays so much that its frustrating! Moaning is allowed and your allowed to be unhappy but that dosent make you not a fan! This forum has lost all the fun it had last year!

But going by your logic, being positive etc isn't going to change things either, so why should anybody bother? It's a discussion forum, we aren't The Saturdays management so of course what we write on here isn't going to change a thing...

For the record I do agree with Shadow in that The Saturdays new one is very disappointing in comparison to GA. GA may not be everyones cup of tea buti t has more life and more energy in it than The Saturdays which is vair frustrating. They are a good group, they have good voices and their material can be good, but they don't ever seem to be able to get the simplest things right and it's annoying.

EDIT - I am hopeful for the next album though, maybe they'll up their game in America.

Can you stop arguing this argument please?

I've been reading every time something comes up and you're literally going round in circles. So what if people are criticising The Sats, it's their opinion. However, I do also think, if someone is criticising that much, why do they care?

The good thing about their music "flopping" is perhaps that TRUE FANS who actually follow The Sats for their music can enjoy what they bring out. I think this argument should officially have a line drawn under it, and if anyone has a problem with a certain person about The Sats vs Girls Aloud etc; PM THEM!

Now can we get back to discussing WHAT ABOUT US!!!!

While I'm more than happy to put this behind us, I strongly advise that nobody PM re: The Saturdays vs Girls Aloud.. or anyone else for that matter.

There's much more going on in the world to be wasting time arguing who is better when their argument is based on opinion.

Nice little dig. ;) I love how predictable people on forums are. They act as if they're putting an end to a discussion but before they do, they have to get one final little comment in. Just because I care about commercial success doesn't mean i'm not a true fan.

ANYWAYS moving on....;)

Wait........so how long has it been since they filmed the video?!
I don't get where the logic comes from behind comparing What About Us to Something New. Something New was specifically written for GA as their comeback single to reintroduce them to the market. They're two different groups, and The Sats have already got their 'Something New' equivilent... 'Get Ready Get Set'.

They're never going to be truly massive or be huge sellers so I'm not gonna bother myself worrying about all of that now - there was enough of that with the OYR era. From now on I'm just going to appreciate and enjoy the music, which is more important.

They were with Rodney Jerkins yesterday. Telephone Part II please. :D
