July 14, 201213 yr First listen now and he used the Playstation/Street Fighter start up sound. AMAZING.
July 14, 201213 yr Is this album really a 9.5? OH P4K. :manson: I'm liking it but certainly not that much.
July 14, 201213 yr It's a grower though. But imagine being a new artist whose debut gets 9.5 on Pitchfork and five stars elsewhere. Where do you go from there? Hype can sometimes be dangerous. Pyramids must be among top 5 of the year so far. Edited July 14, 201213 yr by SKOB
July 15, 201213 yr First listen now and he used the Playstation/Street Fighter start up sound. AMAZING. KNEW I KNEW THAT SOUND FROM SOMEHWERE
July 15, 201213 yr wasn't too keen, but after a few lsitens it's starting to grow on me!!! i hate the radio...song you didnt think you like you end up liking...haha
July 16, 201213 yr Just back from holiday so I have only just given this it's first listen and I have to say it wasn't exactly what I was expecting but it was brilliant anyway. 'Nostalgia, Ultra' was a lot more energetic and in turn was a little more instant but as the record went on, there is massive beauty to be found in the subtlety and it works amazingly as a piece of work. I will need to give some tracks some more time to grow but at the moment my favourites are 'Lost', 'Bad Religion' and 'Forest Gump' of the songs we hadn't heard previously.
July 16, 201213 yr Hmm so Channel Orange has had like amazing reviews from nearly everywhere, yet its no where near as good as Nostalgia, Ultra ? Which do I download :o
July 16, 201213 yr Nostalgia, Ultra is by far the most easily accesible sound, so I'd go for that first.
July 16, 201213 yr I would definitely say Nostaliga, Ultra first because it's more accessible I agree. Then Channel Orange if you like that, but if you don't take to Nostalgia then I don't think Channel Orange will be for you.
July 16, 201213 yr Channel Orange is far far better than Nostalgia, Ultra. The latter was only ever ok to me really + the reason it's so much more accessible is because it's just an album of samples. (still nowhere near a 9.5 though. pyramid maybe, the rest nah)
July 17, 201213 yr (still nowhere near a 9.5 though. pyramid maybe, the rest nah) I would say 4 tracks on the album are at least 9.5 but I agree with you, the album isn't quite a 9.5 but it isn't that far off it for me. Here is my breakdown rate: 11 - Thinkin Bout You 07 - Sierra Leone 09 - Sweet Life 09 - Super Rich Kids 08 - Pilot Jones 07 - Crack Rock 10 - Pyramids 10 - Lost 07 - Monks 09 - Bad Religion 09 - Pink Matter 10 - Forest Gump 07 - End/Golden Girl EDIT: I would suggest to Draper Dude that you download both :kink:, download Channel ORANGE from iTunes for like a tenner and download Nostalgia, Ultra for free on his website. They are too good not to have both in your life. I still do prefer 'Nostalgia, Ultra' but this is still a bloody good debut album. Edited July 17, 201213 yr by Davidson
July 31, 201212 yr Author I'm so addicted to this album. 'Pyramids' is still definitely my favourite from the album (although it's by far my favourite song of the year thus far so it's no big surprise really), but daaamn it's all so good. My favourite album in a LONG time. 'Bad Religion', 'Pink Matter' and 'Forrest Gump' are my other favourites from it at the moment. How many times can you say favourite in a paragraph?
July 31, 201212 yr This album really has been nearly all I have been listening to for the last few weeks, along with the Wynter Gordon EP. Every track is brilliant and all have hidden treasures in them the more you listen to them, even tracks that were pretty great to begin with. 5 tracks do stand just a little above the rest and they are.. 1. Pyramids 2. Thinkin' Bout You 3. Forrest Gump 4. Lost 5. Bad Religion Also I need to see him live so badly, this performance of 'Bad Religion' on Jimmy Fallon is just beautiful: sDSPybTFYHU Edited July 31, 201212 yr by Davidson
August 8, 201212 yr I've listened to this album a lot recently and it's one of the few albums where I can listen to and enjoy every single track. And that says a lot considering it's a 17-track album. 09 - Thinkin Bout You 07 - Sierra Leone 08 - Sweet Life 08 - Super Rich Kids 07 - Pilot Jones 07 - Crack Rock 08 - Pyramids 07 - Lost 07 - Monks 10 - Bad Religion 10 - Pink Matter 08 - Forest Gump 07 - End 1. Bad Religion 2. Pink Matter 3. Thinkin' Bout You
August 8, 201212 yr Can we just take a moment to appreciate how mindblowingly terrific the one-two-three punch of Bad Religion, Pink Matter and Forrest Gump is? Other than that Lost and Pyramids are flawless.
August 31, 201212 yr I initially thought it just needed time to grow, but after quite a few plays, I must say I'm a bit disappointed with this. It is ambitious, which I love, but there's just something lacking in the sound for me. Unlike Nostalgia Ultra, Channel Orange contains very few songs that I want to listen to over and over again. August 31, 201212 yr Frank is performing at one of the big American award shows soon. I'm hoping he performns Thinkin Bout You.
