Posted June 15, 201213 yr New Mika album to get September release Source: MW 15 June, 2012 By Rhian Jones Brit Award winning pop-star Mika is set to return with his brand new album The Origin of Love, released on Island Records on September 16. The Origin of Love is Mika’s third album and the follow up to his multi-million selling worldwide smash The Boy Who Knew Too Much, which debuted in every single iTunes Top 10 around the world. The first single will be Celebrate, written by Mika and Pharrell Williams, produced by Nick Littlemore from Empire of the Sun and also featuring Pharrell on vocals. The record has been two-years in the making for Mika who has assembled a roll call of collaborators including William Orbit, Benny Benassi, FrYars, Greg Wells (Katy Perry, Adele) and Klas Ahlund (Robyn’s Body Talk) as well as working with unsigned musicians. Mika has commissioned a short film to accompany one of the songs from the new album, Make You Happy which can be seen here. Another track from the album Elle Me Dit was released in France last year, reaching No 1 and becoming one of the biggest tracks of summer. A further Mika composition from the album writing sessions Gang Bang, features exclusively on Madonna’s new MNDA album. Mika spent most of 2010 and 2011 on a global tour playing over hundreds of shows to sell-out audiences across Europe, Asia and North America. He returns with a brand new live show, performing at Heaven in London on July 26. Prior to that he headlines the Circus Tent at Lovebox on Sunday June 17. ================= I guess Mika can go in here, I was a bit undecided which forum to put this in, the mods can move it if needed.
June 15, 201213 yr Eh, Mika is most certainly pop. Unless he's suddenly become alternative, which from one listen to Make You Happy is a possibility to be honest. He's certainly trying new things, which is a good progression from The Boy Who Knew Too Much. It sounds a lot more subtle and weirder than his previous work, I wonder if the rest of the album is going to sound like that. Video for it below: -8XRVrXx9xE It's been an absolute age since we first heard Elle Me Dit, I hope he isn't going to disappoint and hold things back for ages.
June 16, 201213 yr I always thought he was a bit indie actually, or at least leftfield, in a Scissor Sisters way. Really like Make You Happy, cute video too, but this is the actual single: PM8z_MR3Fc8 Quite like this, very summery. Apparently an English version of Elle me dit will be on the album too :D
June 18, 201213 yr This new song sounded so good with the sun beaming down when he was performing at Lovebox
June 18, 201213 yr I enjoy Mika but fear this era will flop badly. Agree... he's become totally irrelevant now hasn't he?
June 18, 201213 yr Unfortunately, Mika will probably flop. His second album underperformed and its been 3 years since then.
June 22, 201213 yr Celebrate should be the song to put him back on the map.... it's sooo catchy & pop. should be the one to save him otherwise, he's doomed to stay in the flop area....
October 13, 201212 yr Well, it is his best album. And it is the best POP album in 2012 for me. Very sad Origin Of Love has so many bad reviews and bad sales. Something wrong with this World :) I prefer rock music than pop music but I like quality pop music and new Mika's album is one of the example of such quality. The same situation was with Will Young's Echoes last year. This album is about war, about peace, about sin, about popularity, about love... A lot of clever and adult lines in lyrics there. Very sad people prefer One Direction and Rihanna instead of this talented guy now. from Heroes Maybe the best lyrics of this year And you know, heroes aren't meant to survive So much harder to love when alive Walk with the devil in your head You would think you were better off dead or from Origin Of Love Like stupid Adam and Eve they found their love in a tree God didn't think they deserved it He taught them hate taught them pride Gave them a leaf made them hide Let's push their story aside You know the origin is you from Step With Me Sun is shining up ahead; In thirty years we'll still be happy. Making movies in my head, Making Hollywood look tiny. Don't know why, but all your words Sound just like a melody; From the pieces that I've heard I can hear a symphony. October 15, 201212 yr Suprised the album managed to chart at #24 to be honest - A flop lead single and almost zero promotion/hype for the comeback, Such a shame but it really seems that Mika just struck the market at the right time with his debut album and will struggle to do anything this era in the UK.
