Viva Forever must win for that video alone :lol:

Viva Forever + Sound of the Underground is a baffling top two - neither are anywhere near the best that each band has come up with. (Viva Forever especially)

Glad Biology didn't beat SOTU or Viva Forever, I love it but I think its one of the more overrated GA songs, although Nadine owns it!

As an aside, I may make a playlist of this countdown when we're done because that's how I roll. I hope we're getting a full list Caseeee.

:( BOO @ this being beaten by ONE POINT. Such a BEAUTIFUL song, definitely my favourite Spice Girls song and one I still play it quite regularly. For me, Spice Girls is the very definition of the ultimate girl group and I'm pleased that this of all their songs has done the best. Despite losing out by one point, I didn't actually expect it to be top three!

SIDE NOTE: The video is honestly so WEIRD. Firstly, I've thought for YEARS that the one who gets trapped in the rubix cube was a girl only to find out from someone on Twitter today that it's actually a BOY! Secondly, how on EARTH does the other one explain to their parents that he's stuck in a rubix cube?! And thirdly, the younger boy has some SERIOUS SKILLS completely that rubix cube to quickly. So many questions.

Here's the winner! 'Sound Of The Underground' tops the countdown, beating 'Viva Forever' by one point. It's quite interesting that that no one actually gave this song top points but it manages to win after receiving FIVE 29 points. I do really like this song, but not enough to actually give it points myself, it's probably my 4th favourite Girls Aloud song, I knew it would do very well so I'm not disappointed with its win here. The song pretty much led throughout the whole thing until the last few votes where 'Viva Forever' overtook. But after receiving 24 points from Slick, it reclaimed #1 in the last set of votes.

Aww Viva Forever getting to #2, SOTU is amazing though and definitely the best Girlband debut for me. So a really good Top 2 on the whole

Yeah, I have no complaints with that top 5 at all, all classics among the girlband scene in their own right. Very good winner too, not the best girlband single, but certainly a great one to put Girls Aloud on the map. Thanks for doing this Casey! ^_^

I'm perpetually baffled by the Sound of the Underground adoration. It just AIN'T that HOT. It doesn't sound particularly fresh today and it was never better than just 'really quite good' at the time! There are so many superior songs in this countdown it ain't even funny... bizarre.

 

Oh, my prefered winner of the two (although both are really great) - happy with that :D It still sounds fresh today, it's aged so well and was an exciting debut that showed they were more than 'just another girlband' right from the start!

The top ten was maybe a bit rich in Girls Aloud songs and lacking in Sugababes, but all in all you do have pretty good taste Buzzjack! My top three were in the top five so I'm happy.

I was thinking during this countdown about doing rate for solo songs from Girls groups or groups in general, but I r unsure as of yet as I feel it might just be a Cheryl Cole / Beyoncé love in.

Oh and thanks Casey, got an amazing playlist out of this and it was really interesting to read and comment on!

Sound of The Underground is a really great winners song, and I suppose it was the song that started it all for them so its rather fitting its on top. Viva Forever is great though, particularly underrated in their back catalogue, and that video, I have no words, amazingly daft :wub: Thanks again for doing this, Casey!

02' Spice Girls 'Viva Forever' :: 466 Stunning song. It's absolutely beautiful and I'm pleasantly surprised it's finished as high as #2. Top 10 I knew would be guaranteed but I was thinking more #6/#7.

03' Girls Aloud 'Biology' :: 393 Meh. This is overrated. It's a decent pop song, but it's not one of their best.

04' All Saints 'Pure Shores' :: 388 I thought this would win. Sort of pleased it didn't win as it's not as great as everyone makes it out to be on here, but it's a very, solid song and deserved to do well. This is probably a reasonable position for it. Definitely the better AS song.

05' t.A.T.u 'All The Things She Said' :: 381 I keep forgetting about this gem in countdowns like this. I don't know why, either. It's probably one of a couple of songs pretty much guaranteed top 10 in whatever countdown it's in.

06' Girls Aloud 'Call The Shots' :: 373 Terribly overrated. I agree with Slick in that it got them more credibility as a pop act, but it doesn't really deserve to be top 10. TLK is a much more polished and better version of this. Although that's nothing special either...

07' Saturdays 'Up' :: 366 Meh. Not my personal favourite but it's easy to see why it's the most adored Saturdays song on this site. It's their most successful song to date and has always been loved. It's a good pop song.

08' Girls Aloud 'The Loving Kind' :: 343 A far superior version of 'Call the Shots' but it's still nothing too special for me. Nice song though.

09' Sugababes 'About You Now' :: 340 Very pleased to see this the highest Sugababes song. Yes it's a "safe and predictable, typical pop song" but it's amazing. Especially the radio 1 live lounge version :wub: I'm just pleased it's beaten most of the overrated Suga 1.0 and 2.0 tripe.

10' Spice Girls '2 Become 1' :: 340 Amazing ballad. Whenever I think of this song (and VF for that matter) I always think back to the concert in Istanbul! Both stunning performances and that note Emma hits during the performance... WOW! Very deserving of it's place in the top 10.

 

11' Girls Aloud 'The Promise' :: 340 Agree with a few people in this thread that this is nowhere near as great as it's made out to be on here/by the general public. I will never understand why it's so popular either.

12' Girls Aloud 'Something Kinda Ooooh' :: 323 Always been up there as one of my favourite GA songs. I was slightly worried for it in this, but seeing it at #12 is amazing. :wub: It's not aged as well as I'd hoped but I still love it.

This countdown has made me realise just HOW much I adore The Spice Girls (I've always loved them but I often forget why) and this has made me want to see their Istanbul concert again! It's one of the finest, tours I've ever witnessed. Everything about it was incredible.
