Taylor's fanbase selling power in the USA is just RIDICULOUS. This must be like the tenth time she's gone straight to #1 within 24 hours of release. If only she wasn't such a horrific artist.

I don't think so.

Her fanbase get her to #1, then she'll start falling quite quickly.

Definitely won't get #1 on the Hot 100 with the new streaming component if Bieber couldn't manage it.

Cher was lucky to get above #10 before Taylor released!

I don't think Taylor will get to #1 - she's been #1 so many times before and she's never really gotten close. And that was before streaming too.

I wouldn't be so sure.

For Radio Airplay, 1 Hot 100 point for every 1 million impression. (Example: 36 Million Audience Impressions = 36 Hot 100 Points)

For sales, 1 Hot 100 point for every 1,000 sold. (Example: 24,000 sold = 24 Hot 100 Points)

For streaming, 1 Hot 100 point for every 10,000 streams. (Example: 500,000 streams = 50 Hot 100 points)

Once you have the Hot 100 points for each, then you have to weigh them. Airplay has the highest percentage, which is 55%. Next would be sales at 35%. Finally, streaming has the remaining 10%.

So, using the examples from above the formula would read as follows-

(36 x .55) + (24 x .35) + (50 x .10)

500 k = 500 points 500 points* 0,35 = 175 grand points 400k= 400 points 400 points* 0,35 = 140 points

Using the most recent Hot 100 (published August 2, 2012):

#1. Carly Rae Jepsen "Call Me Maybe"

179,000 in Sales = 62.65

915,000 in Streaming = 9.15

109 Million in Audience Impressions = 59.95

Grand Total of 131.75 in Hot 100 Points

#2. Katy Perry "Wide Awake"

151,000 in Sales = 52.85

580,000 in Streaming = 5.80

117 Million in Audience Impressions = 64.35

Grand Total of 123.00 in Hot 100 Points

#3. Maroon 5 "Payphone"

119,000 in Sales = 41.65

763,000 in Streaming = 7.63

128 Million in Audience Impressions = 70.40

Grand Total of 119.68 in Hot 100 Points

#4. Flo Rida "Whistle"

237,000 in Sales = 82.95

614,000 in Streaming = 6.14

53 Million in Audience Impressions = 29.15

Grand Total of 118.24 in Hot 100 Points

#5. Ellie Goulding "Lights"

122,000 in Sales = 42.70

848,000 in Streaming = 8.48

109 Million in Audience Impressions = 59.95

Grand Total of 111.13 in Hot 100 Points

#1. Carly Rae Jepsen "Call Me Maybe"

164,000 in Sales = 57.40

819,000 in Streaming = 8.19

117 Million in Audience Impressions = 64.35

Grand Total of 129.94 in Hot 100 Points

#2. Maroon 5 "Payphone"

131,000 in Sales = 45.85

811,000 in Streaming = 8.11

134 Million in Audience Impressions = 73.70

Grand Total of 127.66 in Hot 100 Points

#3. Katy Perry "Wide Awake"

170,000 in Sales = 59.50

653,000 in Streaming = 6.53

111 Million in Audience Impressions = 61.05

Grand Total of 127.08 in Hot 100 Points

#4. Ellie Goulding "Lights"

134,000 in Sales = 46.90

867,000 in Streaming = 8.67

99 Million in Audience Impressions = 54.45

Grand Total of 110.02 in Hot 100 Points

(#5 this week was Gotye "Somebody That I Used To Know" & stats were not given of the song.)

#6. Flo Rida "Whistle"

210,000 in Sales = 73.50

584,000 in Streaming = 5.84

44 Million in Audience Impressions = 24.20

Grand Total of 103.54 in Hot 100 Points

In my opinion Taylor will be next no.1.

Is this the official formula from Billboard or a guess from another forum, cos it doesn't explain why Bieber didn't manage to get to #1 with 500k plus in sales.

From MSN:

American country-pop singer Taylor Swift lived up to her name when her new single, the gloriously-titled We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, shot to the top of the iTunes chart in record time.

The 22 year-old premiered the song during a live webchat with fans yesterday.

When it was released to iTunes shortly afterwards, it beat the record set by Lady Gaga's Born This Way by taking the top spot in a reported 50 minutes.

Taylor also announced details of her forthcoming fourth album, Red, which will be released on October 22.

At first I thought Nick's prediction was a bit ridiculous seeing as 'Mine' couldn't get near that but #1 in 50 minutes? That's incredible. If she can hold up somewhat decently then she might get that #1.

Bieber 521* 0,35= 182.35

fun 363* 0,35 = 127.05

airplays

bieber 40* 0,55= 22

fun 104* 0,55 - 57.2

streaming

bieber 0

fun 118*0,1= 11.8

Bieber 204.35

fun 196.05

But when Boyfriend was released streaming was more influence than nowadays.

Bieber with 500+k didn't manage to get to #1 because fun. sold over 350k, this week Carly ang Katy will sell less than 150k, so Taylor will have no.1 even with 400k. Maybe even 350k, but she definetely have to sell more than Mine (297k).

Apparently Taylor has sold 124,000 in only 10 hours, and that was during the night, now is a day and her popularity it's increasing hugely!
Katy Perry 'only' sold 90k in the first day iirc, I don't remember what her initial radio impact was like though so we can't really compare but POM managed to debut at #1, although obviously circumstances were different. Was What Doesn't Kill You Stronger doing better than Call Me Maybe is now at the time? I don't think it was iirc.
But when Boyfriend was released streaming was more influence than nowadays.

What? It was only released a few months ago? Why would they change it again so soon (plus, decreasing the amount streaming counts is going backwards in a way).

I think if Taylor sells 500,000 this week, she'll get the #1, because the songs she has to beat are nowhere near as massive as We Are Young was atm.

Yeah it seems they've gone with R.I.P. instead of the planned Radioactive :o It was sent to radio anyway, I'm not sure if it was mainstream/pop or just urban though, it may be an urban single.
I do hope they're sending it to Pop, if it took off I'd actually be pleased (or at least, as pleased as I can be about Rita doing well!). I'd much rather she get a hit with something that is at least vaguely interesting than something the US has seen a thousand times before. It will be interesting to see how it does, I think the US could actually take to it more than they did to How We Do.
I don't think so.

Definitely won't get #1 on the Hot 100 with the new streaming component if Bieber couldn't manage it.

She'll definitely outsell Bieber. She has a much bigger fanbase than him in the US, not to mention this is her new album official first single, so it'll be heavily promoted, much more so than her previous songs that reached 1 on iTunes.

Oh, also, I don't think "Mine" had a full week of sales 'cause it leaked and it ended up being released earlier on iTunes. So that's why it didn't had much of a chance at number 1.

Billboard change their rules very often

Firstly they add spins from on-demand streams from services such as Spotify, Rhapsody, Muve, MOG, Slacker to hot 100 chart then they change how much influence has streaming, airplays, and track sales on this chart.
