July 27, 201212 yr I had Over the Valley. Here's what I thought: 01 first thoughts were admittedly o no o no but I was pleasantly surprised by this track, a genuinely nice song with a more than decent vocal. Not something I'd necessarily choose to listen to by certainly not something which I would turn over. The song actually got better on the second listen. 7 02 this one didn't do much for me, sounded quite generic, one of my least favourite on the album. Again, it got slightly better on second listen but it wouldn’t be something I’d look into exploring more in the future. 2 03 this one just came across as incredibly dull, lyrically and musically. I found it hard to appreciate why someone would listen to this track beyond any personal significance. Inoffensive would be the best way to describe this I think. A very long 3:32. 1 -- holding my breath for the rest of the record, however; 04 this was my favourite track on the album easily. Sounded a little like Kathleen Edwards, I really enjoyed the vocals and the lyrics and it would be something I would listen to again on my own volition. Something about her voice interested me, simultaneous distinct yet familiar. It is this kind of female singer-songwriter that I enjoy listening to. A lovely track. 8 05 Again lack the last one, it had this touch of Kathleen Edwards which sounded familiar and enjoyable, and the somewhat morbid lyrics felt quite heartfelt which certainly contributed to the quality of the song. Again another which grew, significantly, on following listens, indicating that the record in its entirety is certainly a grower. My only complaint at this stage is that one song can easily blend into the next; however, this song and the one previous work excellently together, as the two strongest songs on the album. 7 06 male vocals, a slight let down from the previous track. Introduction of the piano lifts it slightly but the lyrical content is so typical that the song doesn’t seem to have any identity itself. Gratifyingly short; if it was any longer it would’ve received a much lower mark. 4 07 I scribbled “amiable” on first listen and this is the impression which stuck with me. I don’t really know what to say about it other than that I really didn’t enjoy it at all. At over five minutes it seems needlessly long for what it’s trying to say? I don’t know. The soporific vocals certainly don’t help. It’s just incredibly tedious delivery I think. Nowhere near as good as track 04/05. 2 08 this is Ryan Adams who isn’t my favourite artist but this is one of the better tracks of his I’ve heard. There are just myriad North American artists who do what he does better I feel. This is actually quite good though, pleasant surprise, not overly long which is good. May be willing to explore his discography more after hearing this. 6 09 this sounded a lot to me like Drive-by Truckers. Like the last song, it’s fine but it isn’t something I’d go for. There’s nothing wrong with it and I know plenty of people who would appreciate their music a lot more than me but still it’s a nice song. Pretty inoffensive though still. Not boring, just lacking impetus. 5 10 ah, a ballad, a nice change up actually haha. I haven’t heard this before although the singer does sound familiar. It’s a really good idea as it continues with the flow of the album hitherto whilst changing the pace slightly. It’s a shame there wasn’t another track like this in the heart of the album to break things up further. Unsurprisingly it’s not something I would choose to listen to but again not something I’d turn off. This grew on second listen as well. 6 11 I absolutely hated this. Microcosm for everything I dislike about this genre of music. A really sad end unfortunately. 0 So. overall, it was actually much better than I feared it would be after the initial listening. I appreciate the risk someone takes to enter a record like this and some of the tracks I genuinely enjoyed however I would say that overall it wasn't quite my thing. As was to be expected I imagine. STILL thank you very much. (: I have no idea who's it is, I am very out of the loop.
July 27, 201212 yr NOBODY BUT DEATH CAN TAKE HER FROM ME 01 9 02 6 03 8 04 9 05 9 06 8 07 6 08 8 09 6 10 7 11 9 12 4 13 10 14 8 already known: 01 sbtrkt 'pharaohs' 02 toro y moi 'new beat' (weird ass remix tho) 04 jai paul 'btstu' 05 gold panda 'you' 08 james blake 'lindisfarne i' 10 camille 'mars is no fun' By the 5th track of this i was simultaneously thinking OH NO i'm going to know every single song on this cd and being incredibly thankful that at least it was going to be full of songs i like, even if they're not necessarily discoveries. I was half right. Pharaohs, New Beat and BTSTU were some of my favourite songs of last year, and hearing them all together seems to make them even BETTER so kudos for that little grouping right thereee. The New Beat remix threw me off entirely at first because i KNEW the tune but just could not place it (even resorting to shazam at one point to get my out of my misery, only to find that the remix is SO OBSCURE even THAT can't locate it!) It is a pretty good remix but I do think I will be sticking to the original i'm afraid. Track 3 seems a bit weird sandwiched in the middle of 4 electronic bangers but it's a really nice upbeat indie-piano song that I enjoyed greatly nonetheless. 6 and 7 are both NICE, but 7 in particular seems to pass me by entirely if i'm not totally paying attention, whereas 6 is certainly one of the more interesting songs here, with quite morbid lyrics being at odds with his almost happy voice/the music in general, which makes for rather compelling listening. Then comes James Blake, obviously (with far from my favourite song of his but still SO GOOD) to break the longest run of unknown songs yet, before actually a rather nice, ethereal tune comes along and sings gently about a sonic youth with sonic dreams and suicidal tendencies, before fading out almost as soon as it seems to start. Hmm... Not so sure. There was one AWFUL moment at the beginning of track 10 where I thought it was an Olly Murs number, but Camille's voice (and the strategically forgotten artwork... whoops) reassured me that it was something much, much better. Camille has always been a little hit and miss with me but I do really like her when I'm in the mood and this was no exception- to the latter part. Track 11 was one of the highlights of the cd definitely, some booming male-vocalled electro, whereas 12 was exactly the opposite. I can only assume this is by Glass Candy (as they kindly advise me to call them for a good time) but I am really not a fan of faux-60s hippy vocals and find it far too contrived and annoying to be honesttt (the beat itself is really quite good though – just without the singing please). 13 was my absolute favourite of the compilation (and what a discovery), ushered in by Sleigh Bells-esque beats, I actually thought this must have been a sample at first but on second listening I think it's just a really similar, really good tune. The rap/r&b vocals fit this SO WELL and feature my favourite line of the whole thing- 'because a n**** go hard / kinda like a eggggg'. Amazing. The rapping also sounds a bit Childish Gambino, except good. The CD ends on another really good rap tune, with summery violins and lyrics that only just really seems to get going and then suddenly ENDS. And that's the CD done :(. I'm coastin ~ I think this review sounds far too negative for what the CD was, as there was only really one track that I didn't enjoy at all, and the rest I really, really did like. I wish it could have been a bit longer (the ending REALLY DOES creep up on you) as it seems to go by so quickly (testament to the CD creating skills I guess). Without the rap, I'd have thought this was maybe Brett-Butler's. With rap? I have literally no idea. tonyttt was the first idea but he's all but denied it so I'm going to go with ATONEMENT. Stab in the dark is better than none ehh. 7.8 I'm pretty infrequent on here these days so I don't blame you for not guessing correctly. (; Here was the tracklist as it was intended to be listened to (in three sections): 01 Gold Panda 'You' 02 SBTRKT 'Pharaohs' 03 Toro Y Moi 'New Beat' (Fare Soldi CantaTu Remix) 04 Mystery Jets 'Half in Love with Elizabeth' (Delorean Remix) 05 James Blake 'Lindesfarne' 06 The Presets 'If I Know You' 07 HEARTSREVOLUTION 'Digital Suicide Lullaby' - 08 FrYars 'The Ides' 09 Jai Paul 'BTSTU' 10 Cities Aviv 'Coastin'' 11 Glass Candy 'Geto Boys' 12 Big Boi 'Hustle Blood' (feat. Jamie Foxx) 13 These New Puritans 'Hologram' - 14 Camille 'Mars is No Fun' I hope that it makes the abrupt ending more clear as 'Coastin'' wasn't meant to be the last track. (: Thanks for the excellent review. The track that you seem to love is the Big Boi one, from his last album, you may have heard 'Shutterbugg' already. The whole album is fantastic. I love/hate Glass Candy for the exact reason you said ha. Glad you enjoyed the majority of it anyway, shame you already knew a few of the songs though aha. Thanks again. (:

July 27, 201212 yr I keep thinking I might have yours, it seems the only logical choice of those left. At any rate, be it yours or not, I will be reviewing someday next week.

STILL thank you very much. (: I have no idea who's it is, I am very out of the loop. I didn't really expect anyone to enjoy it but it's good to know you at least liked a few tracks! Here's the tracklist for what it's worth : 01. Emmylou Harris - Easy from Now On - I love the optimism/naivity of this track. Slightly deceiving for the rest is almost all darkfelt songs on the CD though, hah! 02. Shania Twain & Willie Nelson - Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain - I wanted to use the original Nelson recording but I've always felt that was a little dodgy so I went for something that indeed sounds v. generic. Absolutely love the lyrics though. 03. Gram Parsons - Brass Buttons - This was one of my personal favorites, I like how tired and strung out his voice sounds on this record, which complement the song. I can see why one would think it's boring though. 04. Gillian Welch - Annabelle - Lyrically definitely the strongest I've put in there. This song fits right into her other work so you should check her out if you want to. 05. Iris DeMent - No Time to Cry - Well another one of my faves, kind of surprised you seemed to enjoy this 'cause I thought this would horribly blow, especially 'cause it's almost 7 minutes long and her voice is a massive love or hate situation. 06. Little Feat - Willin' - An oldie, I really like it and it's my fave Little Feat track. 07. Laura Cantrell - The Whiskey Makes You Sweeter. - Not really surprised this didn't work as I kind of regretted putting it in there. I should've gone for a different one of hers or something else completely. 08. Next up is indeed Ryan Adams & The Cardinals - Kisses Start Wars - Lyrically quite horrible but I love the structure of the song and the rocky sound. It's from the album 'III/IV' which is definitely along the lines of this although this is my favorite on there. 09. Again a good guess, for the next song is Drive-By Truckers - Where the Devil Don't Stay - It was a toss up between 'Self-Destructive Zones' and this but I went for this because I love the message of the song and how dark it is. 10. Linda Ronstadt - Hurt So Bad - I must be the only person in the world in the 21st century who listens to Linda Ronstadt but so be it. This is one of my favorites of her, I wanted to go for the live version because that's even better imo (especially the last notes!) but the quality of the recording was not good enough imo. I indeed put this on the CD to ''slow'' down from the rocky tracks but because it still has a guitar solo I didn't think it would be too much of a change and would still fit. 11. Townes van Zandt - Snake Mountain Blues - Again something I regretted putting on there because a few days after confirmation I realized I wanted it to end with Steve Earle's God = God. Doubt you would've enjoyed that though. Not surprised of the bad reception for this song. Thank you for the review and I'm glad you seemed to like at least a few songs. July 27, 201212 yr Haven't noticed anybody mention that they have mine yet, hope I get a review this time :( In the same metaphorical boat. :(
July 27, 201212 yr Thank you for the review and I'm glad you seemed to like at least a few songs. I did, it was quite refreshing to listen to a collection of songs that not only had I never heard before but that I would never usually listen to.
July 29, 201212 yr I will be late in the week when I submit my review. It sounds like it's from an indie/alternative person.
July 29, 201212 yr I'll be reviewing 'The Journey' soonish. It's very alt-pop, not a genre I listen to a lot, so prefered to give it time and a lot of listens, instead of just rating everything low when it doesn't catch on initially.
July 30, 201212 yr Here's my review of 'CD Swap'. I don't have much more information beyond that aside from the elemental cover (as in it shows water/fire/earth/air). Sorry for taking so long to review, I've just got around to it: Track 1: A slightly weird instrumental to start off. It strikes me as the sort of thing Avicii would write if he were soundtracking a Mario/Pokemon game. I'm not sure it's the best opening track, it goes on for really far too long and gets very repetitive after about the halfway point. However, that and the it sounding very close to the sort of game music I'd instantly switch off and listen to a bit of ABBA instead aside, it's OK to listen to and I don't have a problem with sitting back and letting it flow into my ears. I wish the same could be said for most of the rest of the CD. :( 6/10 Track 2: This is quite an engaging pop-rock track. The singer's voice has a bit of a unique quality which makes him annoying and interesting at the SAME TIME. I wish I had a better way to describe it but that really is it. As this is rather a short track and has a bit of energy, I do rather like this. It's not quite Arctic Monkeys, but at the same time it's not quite McFly. It sounds like its somewhere in the middle. 6/10 Track 3: SIGH. Here we go with the first, but unfortunately not the last, of what I can only assume are some death metal tracks. It's one genre I wasn't expecting to receive here and one genre I hate pretty much the entirety of. This has the trademark screaming vocals and that just makes it rather unpleasant to listen to. Still, whoever made this CD, you had guts putting a track like this on. The one good point I can say about this is that it has a half-decent instrumental. 1/10 Track 4: Back into something more familiar, but the first thing I noticed about this was the overbearing production. It really fills the first few moments of the song and that puts me off a bit. The chorus is also autotuned beyond belief. Thankfully, it has a good rhythm and the rapping in the verses is actually rather enjoyable. It's a track I know I shouldn't like much but I do a bit. It loses points for some awful noises towards the end of the song though. 5/10 Track 5: And 5 tracks in and we finally get to a female vocal! RELIEF. Unsurprisingly, this is one of my favourite discoveries from this disc, if not my favourite. It's really beautiful and given how much it stands out among the other tracks on here, I wasn't expecting to find something this good after the first 4 tracks. The subtle production hits just the right notes and the hook 'Live if you really want to' really stands out. My only regret is that it's quite short. :( 9/10 Track 6: And after that brief interlude, we're right back into the normal sound of this CD. :D It sounds similar to Track 2 but with a lot of added production, and this time it really helps. There's quite a strong chorus, particularly 'you can find me underground'. I do pay attention to lyrics and to add to that there's a huge amount of energy here. Again, one of the better tracks on this CD. There's a couple of moments where I worry it's one of the metal songs but it must be just a sound effect or something. 8/10 Track 7: Contrasting again, this one is more similar to Track 5, but with more noticeable production. I was wondering at this point whether the sequence would continue and we'd eventually end up with a song buried under production at the end. It's probably just more similar to 5 in that it has a female singer; the chorus is a bit repetitive and gets buried a bit and the singer has quite a different voice. The last minute of this is an instrumental slowly winding down, a nice interlude before the next tracks. 7/10 Track 8: Concluding the strongest run this CD will have to offer, a strong female dance-pop song. It appears to have something to do with getting a parking ticket due to them talking about double yellow lines quite a lot. I can't think where I could have heard the singer before, her voice doesn't seem very unique, but the track is really quite MAX and the sort of thing I was hoping for from this. 9/10 Track 9: :manson: More death metal. Just as it was getting so good. This doesn't even have the redeeming factor of a decent backing instrumental, it's just boring, even the death metal vocals sound like they're bored in their 'quest for absolution'. Awful. 0/10 Track 10 - Ayah Marar - Mind Controller (a remix which I'd like to know the name of): The first and only track I knew prior to receiving this CD. Now when this was entered to BJSC a couple of months back I wasn't particularly keen, it was very generic and by far my least favourite Ayah Marar track I'd heard compared to her work with Yogi or Camo & Krooked which were both quite good. However, this remix does a world of good to the song, it softens a Ayah's voice, which was a problem I'd had originally and gives the song far more energy, so thank you for that. 8/10 Track 11: This starts off with a grand film-like instrumental, which is good. The rest of the song is not as. It's a male singer, but not a pop singer, he's singing a ballad that wouldn't sound out of place as a hymn. Or a Cliff Richard track. It's hard to know what to give this track actually as I don't particularly enjoy it as it's quite boring but it's not horrible. So a 4/10 will do. Track 12: After an interlude of 10 tracks, we're back to the computer game music. There's one thing that distinguishes this from other computer game music, every now and then someone yells 'FUCK' and the instrumental leaps for a bit. It's not particularly innovative and it's entirely predictable most of the way through. 4/10 Track 13: This starts off rather well, it's going ok for a rock track, if not a great one, I suppose I kinda like... oh shit, here come the death metal vocals. :manson: Now is probably a good time to mention I don't automatically hate a track because of these, Nightwish, one of my favourite bands, employs light versions of them occasionally that I can accept because they fit well with the song. These vocals do fit into the singing rather well as there's a drop before they come in, and if the track was better I may have pushed it up to a 7. As it is, the singing part sounds like a bad 30 Seconds To Mars reject and it's rather boring. 4/10 Track 14: I'm starting to guess this CD was set in the way it was to leap between as many different genres so you always know when one track finishes and the next track starts. This is some trashy dance-pop, the girl singing reminds me a lot of the girl in Hyper Crush. Which is a good thing as they are one of the best trashy shit groups I know. That's meant as a compliment. These types of song sound cheap but also sound vaguely intelligent and catchy and isn't just the sort of stuff Taio Cruz will fart out. Rather enjoyable after the last few tracks.7/10 Track 15: This is weird, it's another big autotune-fest that is very repetitive and goes on for a very long time. It sounds slightly familiar and it has both male and female vocals, but the main male vocals are really quite annoying. It's fairly enjoyable for its length though, nothing amazin' tho. 5/10 Track 16: Aha. Here's a song I'm pretty sure is by a K-pop boy group from the vocals and the occasional... what I assume is Korean. I've never liked the boy group scene as much as their girl groups but this is rather good, if again, it has a lot of seemingly unnecessary production. I don't think I expected to enjoy a song like this as much so thank you for that. 7/10 Track 17: A song about believing in miracles. Maybe by a miracle there'll be an acoustic track as the last track. It contains the wonderful lyric 'Fuckin magnets, how do they work' and despite being an entirely spoken track and dragging a bit it's OK. 5/10 Track 18: To finish off this CD, it's a girl group who remind me of Stooshe. They might even be Stooshe for all I know, but it sounds a little more generic than Love Me. As the lyrics say 'it ain't over until the fat lady sings', I'm just grateful that it is over, it's quite annoying most of the way through. 4/10 Well, that's an average score of 5.6 so I enjoyed this CD a bit more than I expected to on first listen through. I'm going to definitely keep Tracks 5-8, 14 and 16 and the mix of Mind Controller so thank you for those; there was quite a bit of crap to go with it unfortunately but I suspect I wasn't the best person to receive this CD, although thinking about it, I'm not sure if anyone else here would have enjoyed it any more, it seems quite different from what most people who entered would normally like. My best guess is that this CD was made by FM11, I can't think of anyone else it would be with the computer game music/dance music and a bit of K-Pop - from what I know of your music tastes which isn't much most of it does fit, but then the metal bits throw me a little so it may not be you, but I know of no-one who delves into that genre so I'm rolling with it.
July 30, 201212 yr Author Reminder that if you haven't posted a review you have till August 10th to do so! (this includes me, my bad this month has been really, really crazy busy). I'll get a list together soon of everyone who hasn't.

Killswitch Engage - The End Of Heartache {CD Swap Edit} 18. StooShe - Here Comes The Hotstepper 01. Zedd - The Legend Of Zelda [2011] - Zedd is a electronic dance music producer. Lonsdale Boys Club - Light Me Up [2012] - New band from London. This is their first single released. They also have stuff from SB.TV on YouTube. 03. Cradle Of Filth - Gilded C**t [2004] [Nymphetamine[ - An album track from their 2004 album 'Nymphetamine'. It's quite a tune and it's one of my favourite tracks by them. And oh yeah, that scream! 04. Hollywood Undead - Comin' In Hot {Wideboys Remix} [2011] [American Tragedy Redux] - A remix of a track from 'American Tragedy', taken from their remix album 'American Tragedy Redux'. It's also shorter than its actual length on my CD. 05. Yuna - Live Your Life [2012] [Yuna] - Malaysian singer-songwriter. The track is taken from her first English album which is self-titled. 06. The Used - Hands And Faces [2012] [Vulnerable] - A rock band from Utah. This is from their 5th album 'Vulnerable' which is a bit more electronic than every album they have made. It's their first outside the major label (Reprise). 07. Daughter - Home [2011] [The Wild Youth EP] - Singer/songwriter. She has released 2 EPs. Dunno much about her really, other than her real name Elena Tonra. 08. Sirah - Double Yellow Lines [2011] - The girl featured in Skrillex tracks ('Weekends!!', 'Bangarang' and 'Kyoto'). She has a new mixtape available for free called 'C.U.L.T.' which is quite different from this song. 09. Gojira - Oroborus [2008] [The Way Of All Flesh] - French metal band. Opening track from album 'The Way Of All Flesh'. 10. Ayah Marar - Mind Controller {Cutline Remix} [2012] - Singer featured in few Camo & Krooked tracks. I was picking between this and the original, but I thought I prefer the remix a little bit more so I picked this. 11. Scorpions - Moment Of Glory [2000] [Moment Of Glory] - A little bit of retro rock! Got some memories for this. We got a DVD of this one (it's illegally copied though)! Not considering myself a fan but I like many songs by them. 12. Doctor P - Tetris [2011] - A bit of Tetris with dubstep. Yeah! 13. Killswitch Engage - The End Of Heartache [2003] [The End Of Heartache] - Metal band from Massachusetts in US. Featured on Resident Evil: Apocalyse soundtrack as the shortened and cleaner version. 14. Millionaires - Drinks On Me [2012] - Pop duo (used to be a trio) making very dirty music. 15. Twin Atlantic - What Is Light? Where Is Laughter? {Skrillex Remix} [2009] Yeah, Twin Atlantic, a band nobody likes. LOL. It's a drum & bass remix of their track back in 2009 before we known him for those dubstep tracks. Also shorter than its actual length. 16. Big Bang / BIGBANG - Tonight [2011] [Tonight (EP) and BIGBANG Special Edition] - K-Pop boyband that I enjoy. They are quite fun to listen to. 17. Insane Clown Posse - Miracles [2010] [bang! Pow! Boom!] - WATER, FIRE, AIR AND DIRT, *beep* MAGNETS, HOW DO THEY WORK? Yeah, where I got the idea for the CD Swap cover! Anyway, ICP, they are a ridiculous duo (used to be trio in early 90s but forget about it). They have been around for quite long. 18. StooShe - Here Comes The Hotstepper [bonus track] [2011] - I put this at the end because I couldn't fit it in and they are a popular girl group. It's a cover of Ini Kamoze's track. So yeah, it's an embarrasing disc... :D Edited July 30, 201212 yr by FM11

He's recently signed to Interscope Records. The song samples the popular overworld tune from the first The Legend Of Zelda game. It's shorter than its actual length on my CD. 02. :D Ah, there's a few artists I actually recognise there, surprisingly! I didn't know Zedd was a producer, I only know him from Spectrum, which is OK, on about the same level as this though. I wouldn't have got Yuna! :o I know her from Someone Out Of Town which I'm not that keen on, this is far far better than that though! Daughter I recognise but it's quite different to her other songs I know, and so THAT'S where I thought I knew Sirah's voice from. I may have to check out a bit more of her solo material then as I love Bangarang. Millionaires would've been my second guess for track 14, it's slightly better than Stay The Night, the only other track I know from them. I do know a few tracks from BIGBANG (and I did think it was them on the track) but this is by far the best I've heard. I didn't actually know Stooshe had any other songs so that's what stopped me outright guessing them but it does make sense. I don't think I hate Twin Atlantic as much as everyone else but that's the only song I've heard from them, going off that they seem rather average. So yeah, thanks again for those discoveries, and I think I may have a very.. unique disc here.
