I also like vidcapper's idea of OA/OS tracks getting released on Sundays. However, it's clear that UK based record companies just don't want this to ever happen and are firmly stuck in the year 2000 and are now treating downloads like they're CD singles which is madness.

Look at the years biggest selling singles - where is the highest Brit ranked? That says more than enough. You could've applied that to last year but Adele had that Brits performance so got the boost of her live Brits download and album version selling extremely well. 2012 hasn't had any British moment on the same scale and so...

1 - 1 - 1,160,200 - Gotye ft Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know (Australia & New Zealand)

2 - 2 - 900,600 - Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe (Canada)

3 - 3 - 803,000 - David Guetta ft Sia - Titanium (France & Australia)

4 - 4 - 738,000 - Fun ft Janelle Monae - We Are Young (America)

5 - 5 - 708,000 - Nicki Minaj - Starships (America)

6 - 6 - 680,600 - Jessie J - Domino (UK)

...and the highest ranked Brit single was available to download in late 2011 and climbed to #1 thanks to the release of the music video.

Take note British record companies. No? Oh well, never mind...

This would be a great idea, it might speed up the charts a bit too. I mean Rita Ora would certainly be #1 now if it was released for example, whereas in reality when it's out (still another 3 weeks or so!) it will sell bucketloads first week and drop. Some songs might not actually reach #1 as they normally would under this method but it would be so much better all around to be honest and they'd sell more consistently.

It would slow down the charts even more, because more things would have chart runs of 25-14-8-7-6-7-5-6-8-6-9-10-etc. We wouldn't get those 2-5-9-17-etc. type of chart runs as much anymore, which are basically the only things that keep the charts relatively fast-moving.

I don't care either way though. I want Rita to be released early, especially since the charts are even slower than usual atm!

Also, not just with British artists, but in general, most of the biggest-sellers were released straight away/very early (of those 6, all of them except We Are Young and Call Me Maybe). And it was the same in in 2011 (Someone Like You, Party Rock Anthem, Give Me Everything), and in 2010 (Love the Way You Lie, OMG, Airplanes) and in 2009 (Poker Face, I Gotta Feeling, Meet Me Halfway).

Nicki Minaj is Trinidadian. Also 'America' is not a country nag moan etc.

I think if EVERYTHING was released this way no exceptions, it wouldn't be as slow, and even so, we certainly wouldn't get as many completely dry weeks like this one and I'm sure more to come before Q4

Woah the top 3 aren't from either Britain of the USA, that's quite an achievement!

18. B.o.b & Taylor Swift - Both Of Us

22. Far East Movement & Coverdrive - Turn Up The Love

43. Eminem & Rihanna - Love The Way You Lie

44. Gym Class Heroes & Ryan Tedder - The Fighter

45. Train - 50 Ways To Say Goodbye

An edited list to show the top 2012 records.

I think if EVERYTHING was released this way no exceptions, it wouldn't be as slow, and even so, we certainly wouldn't get as many completely dry weeks like this one and I'm sure more to come before Q4

I doubt it, because the same number of songs would still be getting released, just more of them would miss the top 40 because they can't be held back to debut there. So we'd get less new entries each week on average (e.g. Angel's song might've had a chart run of 75-65-54-42-45-54-58-63-72-OUT instead of 18-34-66-OUT or whatever it'll get, obviously the first chart run is better for Angel and his record label since he gets more sales, but the latter is better for those who want a faster-paced chart and more new entries in the top 40 each week).

If Karmin and Conor Maynard's songs were released last week, it would mean we would've had an extra two entries to liven up a quiet week, but next week would be really quiet instead. I think radio stations need to play more songs to fasten-up the chart, and stop playing older ones (e.g. Domino, Starships, etc.).

Oh gosh, that's going to push a load of older songs up the chart, yet again. :drama: I hope it boosts Level Up and iLL Manors though. :coffee:

Train's new song already up to #44! :o

BLEUGH. I always hate when the NOW CD is released because the only songs that climb and re-enter are the ones I'm usually sick of! I also don't like it because it really pushes the old songs up which makes the charts feel even more slow than usual and stops any new ones from going top 40 (I think Train's new song may suffer from this, or possibly the new Gym Class Heroes one.) I wish the songs on the NOW! CDs were album only. :(

J-Lo's Dance Again album is being released on Sunday :o I can see it flopping HARD. The hilarious thing is that Goin In, I'm Into You & On The Floor are ALL album only

Edit: No song from Now is album only :o

Sometimes when NOW albums are released you get like a few old songs re-entering and a few big climbers still in the top 40, and sometimes the "effect" lasts a couple of weeks. But there've been other times where the NOW album didn't really seem to have that much effect, so we'll see. We have Train, Drake and Gym Class Heroes (and Sean Paul if we're very lucky) who might climb into the top 40 next week, plus also Madeon, Karmin and Conor Maynard (and hopefully Plan B) who might be new entries.
