Posted July 19, 201213 yr This is a subject that comes up iro ChartsPlus - they seem to consider an oldie's download chart run as a separate entity from it's original physical chart sequence (for example Paul Simon's 'Graceland) - a policy I personally disagree with. However, I thought I'd ask the forum what they think on the issue in general.
July 19, 201213 yr Sales and positions should be combined for deluxe versions/special editions of albums - if it's the same album there's no point of splitting up the sales imo.

I disagree with this, if it has a different tracklisting it should chart seperately IMO. For example: Good Girl Gone Bad and Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded should have seperate chart runs as they have different tracklisting. This would also get around an album being artificially boosted when it's deluxe version is released, the standard version could still chart in its own entity surely? (Also means Queen's Greatest Hit's sales would be a bit clearer.) With regards to if Re-Releases should continue on the same chart run, I think they should, providing the tracklisting is the same as per my reasoning above. You wouldn't split a single between different versions (CD, 7", Download etc).
July 19, 201213 yr ^^true artists like katy perry and riri can extend an albums life be reissuing which extends there time in the chart public eye longer to keep them relevant until the next album!!

I don't think artists care about extending their chart runs. They'll care about having big sales, and since sales for standard and deluxe versions are combined, it won't make a difference whether chart runs are combinded or not. - I think that standard and deluxe versions should be combined, as it's not as if it's a brand new album, even in the case of Rihanna's Good Girl Gone Bad.

But unless your a chart fan, you won't know how high in the charts an album is, so even if both versions are combined to make it high in the charts, it won't mean anything to the general public.

True - but it tends to be music fans who buy albums, and they will have more interest in such things than the general public...
