Generic and David Bowie wannabe vocal mess.

 

David Bowie was the first thing I thought of as soon as she started singing.

 

The only thing I can hear in the chorus is "fdsgfdgbfuebgrfe applause, applause".

I am very much liking it on first listen, love how 80s it is! More generic than I expected though, and I want to be looning for new Gaga! I played Born This Way and Judas over and over for like 2 or 3 hours, but I think Roar wins this for me (not that they should be compared!) :o

I feel like she REALLY needed something to appeal to non fans and this is just that.

It's decent. She's had better (Poker Face, Bad Romance), but she's had much worse as well (BORN THIS WAY). My only real issue is the same one that I've always had with her - the fact that she over promises and under delivers. She made it seem ground breaking from her tweets, when it's just a perfectly alright, but rather generic song.

 

Roar is better, if that comparison really has to be made.

I was going to avoid it for as long as possible until the hype died down, but I gave in and listened because I was quite curious anyway. It's actually really good (better than Roar if we have to be doing that), and I'm far from being a Gaga fan. Good work.

On first listen I'm not sold to "Applause", it's a bit too messy and I think it clearly lacks a melody.

This will eventually grow on me but this is no "Bad romance" or pretty much everything on "Born this way".

Just had a second listen. This is just TERRIBLE! One of her worst. :(

OK I'm loving this now. It has the right balance of Gaga craziness and commercial for me, I still say Roar > Applause though.

I like the 80s feel and it is a better first single than 'Born This Way' but I don't know, for me the chorus is a bit limp. I don't know why everyone thinks it's so good, maybe it'll sound better in HQ.
