So the first teaser trailer has been released with the Dark Knight Rises movie. I initially thought this might bomb, but now I don't think so especially after the success of superhero movies this year.

Zack Snyder's Watchmen is the best comic adaptation ever. I'm sure Superman will be as good.

Hope it will be a blockbuster and do well in the box office. Unlike the Superman returns from 2006

yup it's looking good. The Superman movies have always been too lighthearted albeit fun (or just plain bad in a couple of cases) so this could be very good.... B-)

Really can't wait for this. I hope it doesn't disappoint. I've managed to stay away from the final trailer so it's more of a "surprise" to me as to what happens. Very excited.

Slightly off-topic, but still on-topic but Henry, Amy and Russell are all on Graham Norton this Friday! :D

Nolan by numbers, but in such a tired way. Really devoid of any substance and instead all style/flash (so if you like that sort of stuff you'll be in for a treat). It's really relentless in its "action" and doesn't move away from that for the entire 2 hours - we get it, you had a big budget ok. The camera was really off-putting too; it's oddly manic even in static scenes and just jitters about everywhere for NO REASON! Insanely disappointed that it's just another standard summer blockbuster that we see year in year out :(

Hardly any redeeming factors apart from Cavill appearing as a divine hot God throughout <3

I actually enjoyed it from start to finish, not much of a backstory though, but it builds up nicely as the film goes on, I did find the end scenes a bit ott, with all the buildings come crashing down, apart from that it was an enjoyable film to watch. Its a whole lot darker than the original movies its more of a reboot within the vein of Batman Returns Trilogy. After so many fail attempts to revive the Superman franchise, at one point JJ Abrams was appointed director with Nicolas Cage as Superman in a movie called Superman Fly By, but that was aborted and JJ Abrams was no longer associated with Superman.

I think there a few clues in the movie for a follow up and the main villain of the piece, bringing Lex Luther back in the fold, I think its meant to happen at some point. You have to have Lex Luther within the franchse its part of the Superman legacy.

Just back from Man of Steel. Was not impressed, and was somewhat troubled by it. Spoilers abound.

Firstly, the good. Russell Crowe stole every scene he was in. No complaints in that regard. If the film had just been about the exploits of El, then it would have been a much better film. Alas, it was not.

Also, I very rarely have a bad word to say about Amy Adams, and as Lois Lane she did a capable job. It's nice to see the character as more proactive than 'damsel in distress'.

Now the problems. Firstly, the film was far too dark tonally. I know that given Christopher Nolan was involved, it was always going to be a darker film, but it was much darker than I had anticipated. They've sucked everything fun about Superman and made him an annoyingly angsty character. The Dark Knight Trilogy suited its darker tone whilst still injecting some humour into the proceedings. Man of Steel didn't have a single humorous bone, although not through lack of trying (the scene of Superman being thrown into a sign titled "14 Days without an Accident" was the best attempt at "humour").

And it wasn't very entertaining either, which is odd, given that the last 1/3 of the film is dedicated to explosion after explosion. I didn't find it exciting, I found it monotonous and unrealistic.

Henry Cavill did a good job with what he was given, but unfortunately his accent ended up sounding like a 50s radio announcer.

Also, they really did lay on the "Clark Kent is Jesus" thing really thickly. Firstly, Clark's dad says early on that the discovery of his powers would change people's belief system. Then, we're informed at various points that Kent has been on earth for 33 years (the same age that it is traditionally believed Jesus was when he was crucified). And just to sledgehammer the message right into our face, Clark goes to meet with a flipping priest (who hasn't appeared in the film until now, and doesn't again), with a massive stained glass window in the background of, you guessed it, Jesus Christ. Obviously subtly is a word that has been excised from Zack Snider's dictionary.

As has the word "silence", given how loud the whole film was.

The most troubling aspect of the film however was its politics. There is a scene near the end of the film which could be interpreted as an apology for carrying out suicide attacks, which I found slightly distressing.

So in all, a very disappointing film.

It had a lot to live up to, and “Man of Steel” certainly didn’t disappoint. The Warner Bros.-Legendary Pictures superhero reboot scored a whopping $125 million Stateside debut, the biggest-ever opening in June, with an additional $71.6 million from overseas.

Warners projects that “Man of Steel” actually made $113 million from Friday to Sunday, making it the 18th largest opening of all time, behind 2007′s “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” ($114.7 million). The additional $12 million for “Man of Steel” comes from late-night grosses Thursday.

“Man of Steel” bowed day-and-date in 24 international markets this weekend, including just three major territories — the U.K., Mexico and South Korea. Blighty easily led the charge, contributing $17.1 million, while Mexico and Korea followed, with $9.8 million and $8.8 million, respectively.

I haven't heard good things about this, sadly. I'm excited regardless. I often forget how much money video games actually make, seeing how The Last of Us grossed more than Man of Steel in the UK this weekend!

Tragically, I can't disagree. I grew up on Superman comics, but this is a fairly obvious attempt to mix a bit of whining Spiderman with moody loner Wolverine, and more than a splash of Transformers. I hated all the Transformer films. Sorry! 5/10. I liked Lois though, and Christopher Meloni should have got the full frontal (he's used to it on TV) rather than the poor baby who'll never hear the end of it when he grows up...

I'm so shocked at all the bad reviews for this, it's my second best film of the year behind Star Trek. It had its flaws but it left so much room to grow for the series and very much felt equal to Batman Begins (underrated film itself). I just hope the rumours of a second film being rushed for next year or even the year after are not true. They need time to iron everything out.

I'm disappointed too, and hope the follow-up is much better. I'm a massive ex-DC Comics fan and I never liked whiny Marvel, so it's comes as no joy to see the Marvel movies turn out brilliant and DC keep on forgetting that the reason Superman was so popular in the comics for 60 years was the character, and a good movie starts with a good script. Batman at least was recognisably Batman-ey, Kal-El never had any doubts that he was there to do good and to help in the comics and previous films.

This one felt sorry for himself for 20 years then made a number of odd decisions. Pity....

Movie felt like a bit of a MESS 2 me and I honestly literally got so tired of the mindless action near the end. That being said, totally worth it bc Henry Cavill or w.e. looks stunning, jesus

im gonna leave this here

So, this was awful.

Henry Cavill really cannot act, can he? He has no presence and only cycled through one or two facial expressions during the entire film. There was no character development, no chemistry between Lois and Clark, monotonous and generic action sequences (that last section was especially boring), the neck-breaking ETC. They tried to make this a serious take on Superman but didn't really commit fully so the cheesy wink wink dialogue didn't work. I could go on, but you get the idea. Ugh.
