Orbital's album is good and while I'm a fan and glad that it wasn't shit I hope there's better electronic music being created out there somewhere.

Jessie Ware HAS to be nominated  4 amazing songs from the album have been released and I am positive the rest will match up

A LOT of mainstream noms there, but ed sheeran SURELY NOT

alt-j really is the only album for sure that i could see winning. it's obvious, but it's literally the only album i could think of bar orbital when i saw this topic.

Django Django are probably good for a nomination. If the judges decide to exploit the 'Antony & The Johnsons rule', then possibly David Byrne & St Vincent could be good for a nod as well.
Hang on, isn't the shortlisting for this a lot later than it normally is?

Yes, they've decided to move the nominations to September instead of July, and the results to November. As a result, this year's Mercury Prize will cover 14 months of music rather than the usual 12.

Django Django is a good shout, I think Hot Chip, Florence + The Machine, Alt-J, Michael Kiwanuka, Orbital and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs are likely nominations.
I hope Ben Howard gets a nomination. They do usually throw in a couple of singer songwriter types so he may stand a decent chance.

Sorry, who are Alt-J?

There should be nominations this year for Errors and Bill Wells & Aidan Moffat who have already won the Scottish album of the year.

Can't think why Spiritualized are in the running, because their last LP was the worst thing Jason Pierce has ever done.

I wasn't aware the washed-up ever stood a chance of making it onto this.

Ah yes, I'd forgotten about him - very likely to be nominated I'd have thought.

Speech Debelle may be nominated again for her new album "Freedom of Speech"
