Couldn't see any comments or threads on this and I'm really rather surprised by that. If I've missed it sorry.

Anyway, thoughts?

Personally I think this fresh take has given me renewed interest in the track which had become so overwhelmingly familiar through years of listening. The vocal is the main new experience but I think this more 'mature' sounding take gives it a new dimension.

Has it improved the track? No but you can't best near perfection and this is simply different yet equally great to me. My only wish is she'd have gone with her original intention and called it simply A Deal With God but then I guess not so many people would know where to find it or what it was

Basically what you already said  Obviously nothing can beat the majestic original but the subtle differences really are great!

It's falling on iTunes, I know chart positions is the last thing that counts to her to be honest, but I just really would love a stone cold classic to be in the top 10 again!

The remix is surely only so most of the profits from the Olympics 'performance' didn't go to her old record label?

I quite like the remix but no more or no less than the original... which remains stunning.

It's going to chart at #4 or #5 this week, isn't it? I'm really glad!! :yahoo:
It's definitely a re-recording, that's why I like it so much - it's fascinating hearing how differently she sings and the different parts she chooses to emphasise. Or it is for a fanatic like me, anyway. Her voice is so much deeper and richer, although I'd still give the edge to the original. Musically this really only extends little bits of the instrumentation, it's not really a remix as such.
Despite not being a 'fan' (I like a few of her songs, that's about it), this song is amazing and I've loved it for as long as I can remember. The 'remix' is inferior to the original but it is quite refreshing to have a re-recording of the vocals.
Reggie (is that his name? or something equally ridiculous?) was making me cringe during the chart-show. There is only so many times you hear "THIS SONG IS EXACTLY THE SAME! THIS IS POINTLESS! LETS GET TO RITA ORA!" without it sounding a tad irksome.
I'm one of the few people who prefers this because I have killed the original by overplaying it. I only eve listened to the 12" version before this because it progresses differently to the album version.

I think the number we're looking for here is 1.

How lovwly it is to see this back in the charts, i hope it can stick around for even a couple of weeks and not completly plummet next week.

I'm so in love with this at the moment. It sounded AMAZING at the Closing Ceremony.

According to Wikipedia (reliable source ahoy!) this is what it says about the remix:

On 12 August 2012, Bush released a new version of the song "Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)". Subtitled '2012 Remix', it uses the backing track of the extended version on the 1985 12" single, over which new lead vocals were recorded. The track was transposed down a semitone to fit Bush's current lower vocal range.

It really does sound incredible with the lower vocal range.
