Posted August 20, 201212 yr So is Birdy going to do a Mumford and Sons in Australia and come out of the blue and have a massive selling album and single(s)? I get that "People help the people" was featured on a Neighbours promo but why has "Skinny Love" shot up to #1 on iTunes? (It's now at #2). Was it performed on TV or something? And the album's doing ok as well... #1 currently.
August 21, 201212 yr An X Factor contestant sang it on Monday night's premier episode. It will probably begin falling in the coming days. Even so, she should get a top 10 single and album out of it!
August 21, 201212 yr Author Oh ok, that makes sense then! So that's 2 boosts for her in recent weeks in Aus then... if not the single, the album should definitely do well as it was already climbing before this XF perf.
August 22, 201212 yr And for once she credited the existence of Bon Iver  'I'm singing Skinny Love by Bon Iver, but I'm gonna do the Birdy version'. She was so good as well, and had the first 15 minutes or so of the show so I can see why! Really great for Birdy though, truth be told I wasn't that fond of the whole album ultimately but Skinny Love is excellent, and it's always good for Brits to have major overseas success.
August 22, 201212 yr Author Last few years was hard for Brits to have success in Australia but the last few months have been a diff story - I'm looking at the Aussie iTunes (singles) and see all kinds of Brits there - that Wiley song, Prima donna, Ed Sheeran's got about a 100 entries on there, etc.

August 27, 201212 yr Skinny Love debuted at #4 in Australia this week, and People Help The People has a new peak of #13! The album is also at a new peak of #2.
August 27, 201212 yr I like that Australia are willing to accept a non-urban poplite artist from oversea's. I wonder if Lykke Li will hit big in Australia shame she hasnt in the UK.
August 27, 201212 yr Is Wiley seriously in Australia's chart!?!?! :o :o That's amazing, UK rappers don't usually have much success worldwide, and if they do, it's in Europe. But I've noticed lately sometimes that when a song does well in the UK it often immediately starts doing well in Australia and/or New Zealand. Like Spectrum for example. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a really big radio station in those countries and since the success of Adele last year they've decided to look at the UK charts for new songs to play.
