If Little Mix work with the right people and continue to release songs as strong as wings they will carve out a good career, but i 100% agree without the backing of syco any of the winning acts will crash and burn.

According to the latest Official Charts Company sales data, Emeli Sande’s debut album, Our Version Of Events, has now overtaken Adele’s 21 to become the biggest selling album of 2012 so far.

Despite being released in January 2011, Adele’s second studio album has dominated this year’s Official Albums Charts, but as of midnight last night (Thursday, August 30) it now trails Our Version Of Events by 3,200 copies in year-to-date sales.

2012 has been an incredible year for Emeli; the 25 year-old Aberdeenshire singer-songwriter, who gave up a promising career in medicine to follow her dream of becoming a musician, won the prestigious Critics’ Choice Award at this year’s BRIT Awards, and was invited to perform at both the opening and closing ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympic Games. Her debut album has now sold over 659,800 copies since its release at the end of February.

“At a time when it is as hard as ever for new artists to break through, it is fantastic that Emile Sande now has the official biggest selling album of 2012 so far,” comments Martin Talbot, the Official Charts Company’s managing director. “It is also apt that Emile (who won the BRITs Critics’ Choice Award in February) should take over from the inaugural BRITs Critics’ Choice Award winner, Adele. Yet another British female singing star has been born!”

Our Version Of Events still has a long way to go before eclipsing 21’s total sales, however. Since its release, 21 has sold 4.4 million copies in the UK, making it the fifth biggest-selling album of all-time, selling more copies than Michael Jackson’s iconic Bad and Thriller albums, Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side Of The Moon and Dire Straits’ Brothers In Arms in the UK. An estimated one in six British households owns 21.

The Official Top 5 Biggest Selling Albums Of 2012 So Far are as follows:

1 OUR VERSION OF EVENTS EMELI SANDE

2 21 ADELE

3 BORN TO DIE LANA DEL REY

4 + ED SHEERAN

5 MYLO XYLOTO COLDPLAY

Midweek Charts update: Sande edges past Adele for top 2012 sales

Source: MW

by Paul Willams

Emeli Sande's Our Version Of Events has overtaken Adele's 21 to become the UK's biggest-selling artist album of the year so far.

The Virgin release surpassed the XL-issued 21's total this week, having sold nearly 660,000 copies up to the end of business on Thursday, according to the Official Charts Company. Adele's album has shifted around 657,000 copies in the year to date and 4.4 million cumulatively.

Polydor act Lana Del Rey's Born To Die is the third top artist seller of 2012 with Aslyum/Atlantic's Ed Sheeran fourth with + and the Parlophone-issued Mylo Xyloto by Coldplay fifth. However, all these albums have been outold by the EMI TV/UMTV compilation Now! 81 which, with more than 700,000 sales, is 2012's top seller overall.

Sande's album, having spent a fifth non-consecutive week at No 1 last Sunday, is down to three in the midweeks, overtaken by two entries: Columbia/Roc Nation's Rita Ora in first place with Ora and Fiction/Polydor act Elbow's Dead In The Boot in second position. Icelandic band Of Monsters & Men's Universal Republic-issued My Head Is An Animal is currently showing up as a new entry at four, while Paloma Faith's RCA set Fall To Grace drops 2-5. The Top 10 also includes X Factor conetstant Lucy Spraggan's self-issued Top Room At The Zoo climbing 127-7and Alanis Morissette's Columbia debut Havoc And Bright Lights new at nine. Spraggan's track Last Night has climbed 70-6 on the latest midweek singles cart but will rank lower by the time of Sunday's final chart as it is no longer available to buy at leading digital outlets.

Syco act Little Mix's second single Wings has already surpassed 75,000 sales on its way to deuting at the top of the singles chart on Sunday, while One More Tune/Stiff's Sam and the Womp are second with Bom Bom, having debuted at No 1 last Sunday. Rita Ora's How We Do (Party) slips 2-3, while two tracks move into the top five: Interscope/Republic's Good Time by Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen climbing 17-4 and the Slamjamz-issued Harder Than You Think by Public Enemy rising 11-5.

Great to see Of Monsters and Men’s Little Talks continuing to climb, I just hope their album can remain Top 5. Emeli Sande’s Our Version of Events selling 13k so far at #3 – that means it will outsell the 15k Bloc Party sold at #3 last week. Top 5 selling 10k+? I think it’s possible. Great to see Plan B’s iLL Manors climbing, thanks to airplay of Deepest Shame, and Emeli Sande overtaking Adele for YTD #1!

Little Mix's sales have really trailed off bad, they only did 11k in 2 days :o they were on 65k on Wed mids (Sun to Tues), looks like they are going to struggle to pass 100k now. OUCH. I think everyone has switched to the Public Enemy track which has really taken off.
Tuesdays sales for Little Mix sound dodgy now, either that or they have stopped selling dramatically in the past 2 days and will be off no1 on sunday evening. It will just make 100k with cd sales, surely this shows that it was held back 3 weeks too long - once again in this week of all weeks - wake up uk record companies!!!

I wouldn't call it dodgy, more like trailled off drastically after the Sunday blast plus pre orders. It just seems the Public Enemy track has really taken off and I wouldn't be surprised it be #1 next week (plus Ne'Yo, Pink, Script all out this Sunday), if Little Mix's sales are more than halved next week to around 35/40k. Unless there is missing data, but if the report says till the end of Thursday, than I really don't know.

Plus we had the start of the Paralympics mid week, I'm sure single sales were down when the Olympics were in full swing first week.

Oops Cheryl - the first single not to even go Top 20?

It's #14 on iTunes, so next week it should be Top 20. ;)

What's the big deal about Emeli overtaking Adele YTD - Lana also did so, earlier this year...
I expected more the 75k for Little Mix if am honest, They have done well without the x factor performance and stuff tho, Hopefully pass 100k by sunday dont know if it will manage it now tho.

Don't worry, she'll get there eventually :)

She's doing a bit of promo this week and has Jonathan Ross scheduled next Saturday.

But Mix are still #1 on iTunes therefore are selling more than Public Enemy, even now.

Yeah, I don't see why Public Enemy's success would be slowing down Little Mix's sales.

I'm sure Under the Sun will get top 20. How many weeks were 3 Words, Parachute and The Flood charting for before they peaked?

They all charted before being released as singles, so it's a bit hard to say.

Cheryl bouncing up from 21 to 14 shows that Fearne's show/radio1 has alot of reach.

Hopefully with todays promo, more airplay, more video play it can go Top 20 next Sunday, then increase closer to the top 10 the following Sunday, the week following the Jonathan Ross performance.

Shame that As Long as You Love Me stalled just below Top 20.

Yeah, it's my favourite song from Bieber ever. If he keeps making amazing songs like this he can stay B-)

Probably badly worded saying dodgy but it seems strange at the lack of sales in the last 2 days, follows my theory of held back releases falling in sales quickly!!
