September 8, 201212 yr WELL DONE Robot, that's them all. (It was Loaded) I expected Jess to get vetoed from the off, I'm a little dismayed natch, but onwards and downwards. My new entry won't do anything like as well, but I'm hoping it can bag a solid result.
September 8, 201212 yr I remember when I entered Bastille into UP it was allowed in BJSC at the same time </3
September 8, 201212 yr AS IF Bastille could do anything in BJSC. well let's hope the same applies to Twigs in up EH. (bitter wot) ((it's not even a remotely hyped song though?? not really sure if the fact it's in UP is veto worthy but hey ho))
September 8, 201212 yr I'm not surprised at PSY or Agnes being vetoed, but I really do think the veto is getting a little harsh. Sure, we're after discoveries, I understand this, but is Jess Mills really that hyped on this forum? I don't even think she's well known, but perhaps I'd be too lenient as a mod?
September 8, 201212 yr The vetoing is getting seriously ridiculous at this point. I'd be very interested to know the criteria for songs like Jess which really should have been allowed. You can bet your life that if one of the mods had chosen that song it would've been A-OK and no doubt gone on to win. Pathetic.
September 8, 201212 yr AS IF Bastille could do anything in BJSC. It got to the final, I still consider that a MINOR success for a song so anti-BJSC. (albeit last place though...dammit Chris, why couldn't you have joined earlier :( :P ) Oh, I never knew Bastille was entered before I sent them :o I guess my result was a significant improvement on Laura Palmer's placing! September 8, 201212 yr I do agree with the PSY and Agnes vetos as like is said above, PSY is becoming massive worldwide and Agnes does have a big following on here. However, I've never seen any hype for a new Jess Mills track - is she hyped on more indie-music sites that I won't have seen? If I remember correctly, a Jess Mills track was in a contest a few months ago too - but it does seem vetos have gotten stricter since then. Some people will things that's a good thing, some will think it's bad I guess.
September 8, 201212 yr I dunno, I just think it's all getting too strict - some things are completely necessary, but Jess Mills is hardly that well known. BJSC shouldn't be a constant chore finding somebody who is completely unheard of, without the slightest bit of hype, in my opinion.
September 8, 201212 yr From what I've seen For My Sins has been getting much LESS attention than most other Jess tracks.
September 8, 201212 yr I am baffled at Jess Mills being veto'd! I can totally see why PSY and Agnes were and personally I would've had the same view without a second choice, but Jess Mills is similar to say Jessie Ware when 110% was entered following Running so I wouldn't say there was cause for a veto there.
September 8, 201212 yr Personally I don't see why Agnes should've been vetoed either - it's not like it was a single, just an album track. If people feel it's a cheap entry they're free to mark it down or not vote for it at all.
September 8, 201212 yr I'm not arguing the mods' decision on vetoing here but I gotta ask... Who even IS Jess Mills? I'm so out of touch with pop music these days it's unreal. Personally I don't see why Agnes should've been vetoed either - it's not like it was a single, just an album track. If people feel it's a cheap entry they're free to mark it down or not vote for it at all. The album leaked less than a week ago. I believe that was the main reason whichever track you tried to enter was vetoed. Plus she never came lower than 9th in BJSC (and won one time) so it's safe to say this song would've done well either. I'm sure 2-3 months later an album track of hers will be fine to send.
September 8, 201212 yr So last month we were too lenient and now we're too harsh? :D PSY, Agnes and Twigs were obvious vetoes. Twigs would've been totally fine had it not been sent to UP (that's just unfortunate timing) but that's how it goes. 'For My Sins' was cut because it's being released next week and is gaining popularity online and on this forum (check your own personal charts). Yes, she has been sent before (and she did quite well, in fairness). Last November. When she was pretty unknown to most people. Unfortunately she's a lot more well known now and we felt she would be far too 'obvious' (if that's the right word, idk). Jark, THANKS for the "pathetic" gibe but I'm not going to bother bickering about this again. We've all been there, done that (perhaps you missed it?) and I'd rather not drag the forum back into that.
September 8, 201212 yr So last month we were too lenient and now we're too harsh? :D (We can't get no) satisfaction.
September 8, 201212 yr I don't think you were too lenient at all last month. However, I have just done a quick search in the personal chart thread - and to your credit, For My Sins is in about 10 personal charts, the majority of which are in BJSC. So, I now, have more of an understanding of it being vetoed. Cheers Cal, apologies for the complaint.

Yep, I just did the same! I agree that it was a justified veto then I think plus the fact that she does apparently seem to be quite well known on here and on the blogs.
September 8, 201212 yr So the criteria is basically, if you think a song is an obvious BJSC hit, it gets vetoed? Because 'Jess Mills is building popularity online' seems pretty weak to me. Surely the obvious solution is to use criteria which aren't subjective because actually that gives you the power to veto pretty much anything without actually having to justify it. It is pathetic.
