I feel like the only one not feeling this/them. Both singles so far have been a bit kitchen sink production to cover up the lack of tune/melody. Leigh-Anne's part is the only memorable bit of this. Sob.

Something New tears it a new hole!!!

This certainly wasn't what I was expecting at all, not a cheap, predictable way of doing a ballad or more sentimental song. I like it actually and think after this & Wings, they have a fair bit of potential. I hope the Saturdays are taking note...

I think both are solid gold pop songs, but I think if we showed someone who'd never heard of Little Mix or Girls Aloud both of the videos they'd almost certainly say the song AND video from Little Mix was better. It seems to have gained them support from people who didn't really like them/Wings, I think it'll generally be perceived as the better package once the Girls Aloud hysteria dies down.

Girls Aloud will do better here, but that's only because of who they are and the fact it's a 'major' comeback.

I can't speak for everyone (obv) but from a personal point of view, as somebody who's always been very critical of Girls Aloud and has wanted Little Mix to succeed, it's obvious that GA have the better song. That chorus is simply massive. DNA can't compare, I couldn't even hum it having watched the video today. If it wasn't for the massive goodwill towards Little Mix I doubt the song would do a thing.

I know I've been critical of Girls Aloud in the past (and very positive about Little Mix), but I can't see how you can say DNA doesn't have a massive chorus. It's just so huge, so triumphant - the simplicity of it gets it stuck in your head. To be fair, I would actually say the Girls Aloud chorus is of equal standard and it's the rest that comparitively lets it down. The verses are weaker, the video is a mess and the production is a bit safe. Luckily, a big chorus and safe production makes a guaranteed hit.

Basically, this is a 9.5/10 sort of song and Girls Aloud's is a 9/10, so music is the winner.

DNA is still an 8.5/10 for me, might eventually get to 9/10 which Wings always has been for me. Something New is an instant 9.5/10, but I've always lacked objectivity when it comes to Girls Aloud.
This is a lot better than 'Something New'. That seems so rushed and the verses completely ruin the song, no matter how good the chorus is. At least with 'DNA', the verse are just as good as the chorus.
DNA is a MUCH better direction for them then Wings. Wings was cheesy pop, DNA is more edgy, which is what they need. I can see this being bigger then Wings even if it doesnt get to #1.
I wonder how long this will chart for within the top 40? I was quite surprised to see 'Up' by The Saturdays lasted 19 weeks in the top 40, whilst Girls Aloud's longest is 'The Promise'/'Sound of the Underground' with 15 weeks and the Sugababes have 21 weeks with 'About You Know'.

Agreed, I do wonder if some people have only heard the chorus because the rest of the song is horrible including the leaders of the pack bit. DNA is so obviously better. Little Mix are just starting their careers but they've already established themselves as the current number 1 girl band. They're much cooler than everyone else even though they're from the X Factor.

Both 'DNA' and 'Something New' are brilliant pop songs. Let's not compare and instead just be happy that the two girl bands are killing it at the moment.
Apparently One Direction are releasing their new single on the same day so there could be a battle.

If One Direction couldn't get to #1 with 'Live While We're Young', I doubt the second song will.

It was inevitable that the two were going to being compared, but I am firmly in team Little Mix 'DNA' with this. I just find it a much stronger song overall, whilst with Girls Aloud's, I find it to be quite cheap and messy.

Not won over with the video to this song though (not seen GA's yet so I'm not comparing). But I love the song too much for it to change my opinion of the song.

I agree that DNA has a massive chorus and I prefer it to Girls Aloud's song.

I'd guess at maybe a bit over 2 months. It depends though. If this year is a repeat of last year where the chart stays static for 4 months, then it could be longer. If it's a repeat of 2009 and 2010 with lots of massive hits and movement in the chart, maybe less.
