Can I get a Steps cover of Last Christmas in the vein of 'Cascadas Cover' to go please! x

I'll take 50!

I absolutely loved Cascada during Everytime we Touch and the following two albums and this cover was quite frankly, a fantastic spin on a Christmas Classic. I could Imagine Steps doing something similar?

Yes! This version, the original and Billie Piper’s are my favourite of this song.

Billie Piper’s was the first time I heard that song.

Some of them like Kylie and Leona I enjoy a couple of tracks but as albums thet arent among my faves by them but I do love one more sleep by leona.
I also feel like there are so many catchy Christmas tracks that are not very well known like the Jonas Brothers "you make everyday feel like it's Christmas" which Steps could do a cool amped up version of or that Cruz Beckham one etc. As stated above I'm not really a Christmas albums fan but I do feel like Steps could actually do a great camp one.
Never actually knew this performance existed, it’s actually quite nice.

I still prefer the 7th Heaven Remix though.

Omg the 7th Heaven Remix is amazing, I really rate it

Yeah. I feel like rheywbere trying to push such a grown up narrative that they could have alienated their entire fanbase. They didn't clearly, thankfully! I don't think it's a terrible song mind you, because I could imagine other artists singing it. It just does not suit Steps one bit

I was so confused by who or what rheywbere was before realising it is meant to be 'they are'

I feel like with a Christmas album they needed to totally camp it up, put their cover of Merry Xmas everybody on there and record covers of other classics like I wish it could be Christmas everyday, Jingle bell rock, Last Christmas then maybe some modern ones like Underneath the tree by Kelly or One more sleep (were these released by this point?). Bung some new camptastic songs on there ala Girls Aloud I wanna kiss you so (under the mistletoe) and Not tonight Santa alongside a couple of ballads like Light up the world, Silent night, Dear Santa etc and it would have been either amazing or so bad that it was amazing. Call it something Steps related like Step Into Christmas (maybe record Elton John's song and release that as the single) it's a package and a concept!

I actually do like a few of the songs on the album, I gave it a listen for the first time last year and there are some lovely tracks, but it's NOT Steps.

That kind of upbeat Steps Christmas album would be amazing and I love all those Girls Aloud Christmas songs too, they are so under-rated but I return to them each year

Yes, the camp was indeed missing with this release! Still, I prefer a regular album then another Christmas album attempt.

Oh my god, I didn't even notice  I usually use my phone for Buzzjack, and rely on Autocorrect for my words usually :kink:

The album will be 9 years old this Christmas but I've still not heard it! :kink: I actually bought it in 2012! But I was so unenthusiastic about Light Up the World (the song) that I never got around to hearing the full album. I've not really heard many positive things about it from other fans. Maybe Christmas 2021 can finally be the moment I give it a try. :kink:

Like others have touched upon, a Steps Christmas album really should have been a no brainer. Uptempo classic covers and new songs - poppy, cheesy and fun! Maybe one or two slower moments. From what I've gathered, Light Up the World (the album) is rather adult contemporary, and that's really not Steps. I guess in 2012 they didn't have a clear understanding of what direction they should take.

I definitely wouldn't say no to them giving a second Christmas album a go in the future, if they can have fun with it.

In response to a few of you and Christmas songs you like: I too love Billie Piper's version of Last Christmas and wouldn't be at all surprised if that is the first version of the song I heard as well! Ava Max - Christmas without You is a bop and deserved more attention. I genuinely think Like It's Christmas is my favourite Jonas Brothers song tbh  and of course Underneath the Tree and One More Sleep are total classics. Can't wait to hear them all again at the end of the year! While we're talking about Christmas songs, It's Not Christmas Till Somebody Cries by Carly Rae Jepsen is another great new festive bop *_*

Steps tried the crossover approach for the album to potentially sound more mature as they may have felt their fan base had moved on from fun pop music.

As they learned the hard way they got it wrong

However, everything was fixed perfectly when they released Tears on The Dancefloor.

Yes, I found that was hugely underrated last year but I adore it. I dunno what people had against it

Yeah you've hit the nail on the head tbh

Apart from light up the world their albums are very consistent

There are some good songs on that album too, the entire concept was such a miss though.

It's a shame it broke their streak of top 5 studio albums.

Yeah, I kind of wish it hadn't been released. It got them another top 40 album and top 100 single I guess.

At the time them getting a top 40 album and top 100 was great but now the album blemishes their chart history a little bit.

It wasn't great at the time tbh it was a big flop!
