64. Kylie Minogue // Can't Get You Out of My Head // September 2001

Peak: #1
Weeks on Chart: 26
Points: 700

Speaking of Kylie, here she is with my second favourite song of 2001. CGYOOMH is now a definite pop classic and Kylie's biggest ever song but it has grown slightly irritating over the years down to overplayed but it's still a monster of a song and does sound amazing in the right environments

63. Leanne Rimes // Can't Fight the Moonlight // November 2000

Peak: #1
Weeks on Chart: 22

Another childhood classic of mine from late 2000  One of the few songs on this chart I still listen to at least once a week, CFTM is a defining track of my childhood and from what I've gathered over the year when this has popped on the radio, TV, in a pub or on karaoke most people born between say 1990 and 1995 feel the same way about this track. Unlike the previous track which I eventually found annoying because of overplayed that fate has yet to happen to this track and I doubt it ever will

62. Madonna // Hung Up // November 2005

Peak: #1
Weeks on Chart: 25
Points: 707

If I was to describe my musical relationship with old Madge it would be that of your relationship with distant relatives when you see them at some family event - you're not particular bothered with their life but you'll sit down and listen anyway because at the end of the day they're family which is kind of my reaction every time Madonna released a new track. The reason for this is because I was raised on Madonna by my mother and as a result a lot of her music has some childhood nostalgia feel to it which I enjoy but that doesn't mean I really like them.

She's not terrible and I listen to Into The Groove, Like a Prayer, Frozen, Sorry and 4 Minutes out of personal choice and, of course, Hung Up which is my second favourite ever Madonna record after aforementioned Frozen. It was quiet weird at the time as everyone at school was so into Hung Up and it just seemed strange to me that the most popular song in the country, or my school playground at least, was by Madonna of all people. Then again, Hung Up is pretty undeniable and her only entry in this Top 200

61. S Club 7 // Love Aint Gonna Wait For You // May 2003

Peak: #2
Weeks on Chart: 29
Points: 709

There are certain songs in our lives that we define as turning points and odd as it may seem Love Aint Gonna Wait For You is one of mine. I can see why it may be surprising as S Club 7 were hardly profound artists but as I spoke about with "Reach" they were my childhood and them splitting up was a big deal for us. I was 11 years old and nearly about to leave primary school and the band that defined my childhood were splitting, it just seemed as if it signified the end of something. Plus, the title Love Aint Gonna Wait For You actually turned into some kind of advice for me as the years went on

60. Kylie Minogue // In Your Eyes // February 2002

Peak: #2
Weeks on Chart: 25
Points: 710

Kylie's back with another entry and her 4th best single of the decade in my opinion. In Your Eyes is quite underrated and overshadowed by it's predecessor but as this chart shows I actually preferred it to Can't Get You Out of My Head

59. Jennifer Lopez // Love Don't Cost a Thing // January 2001

#1 SONG OF 2001

My favourite song of 2001 comes courtesy of the third best song from J-Lo's back catalogue (the first two being If You Had My Love and Waiting for Tonight naturally). Now, when we get to the rest of #1 songs of each year I'd argue they've all gone down as classics whereas this, as much as I love it, probably hasn't which just goes to show that 2001 was my least favourite year for music in this decade

58. Justin Timberlake // My Love // November 2006

Peak: #1
Weeks on Chart: 30
Points: 719

JT dissapointed me with 'Sexyback' I'm not gonna lie I really didn't like it at the time although I'm quite fond if it now and My Love seemed refreshing as a result (a feat he has actually repeated with Suit and Tie being followed by Mirror). My Love is easily up there with Justin's best which is a pretty high standard to be honest and this song was my absolute jam for a very long time. Love it, I even love the opening to the video

57. Rachel Stevens // Funky Dory // December 2003

Peak: #3
Weeks on Chart: 21
Points: 730

Rachel Stevens had an epic solo career and this is one of two of her songs which pop up on my countdown. Funky Dory is such an underrated song a shame that it only managed a disappointing peak of #26 on the charts but it got to #3 on mine

56. Avril Lavigne // Don't Tell Me // May 2004

Peak: #1

Weeks on Chart: 24

Points: 741

Avril's second album is probably my personal favourite from her and Don't Tell Me is the single that led it. I'd loved Avril's first album and her follow up certainly didn't dissapoint with this and My Happy Ending (still to come) making high appearances

55. Take That // Rule The World // November 2007

Peak: #1
Weeks on Chart: 32
Points: 750

I was a bit too young for Take That the first time around, I vaguely remember them splitting up, so I didn't have much to go on when they came back as far as forming an opinion of them. Patience was a song I really liked but I detested Shine so it was pretty up in the air by late 2007; luckily Rule The World became my favourite song of late 2007 and one of my favourites of the decade as a whole

54. Kylie Minogue // I Believe In You // December 2007

Peak: #1
Weeks on Chart: 28
Points: 757

One of Kylie's finest records ever (and probably the campest) next and one of the songs that really defines late 2004 for me. She still has two more tracks left to chart yet showing she, in my opinion, was one of the best female singers of the 00s

53. Britney Spears // Everytime // June 2004

Peak: #1
Weeks on Chart: 30
Points: 761

Britney and ballads have always been a mixed combination in my opinion. Some of them have been downright awful (From the Bottom of My Broken Heart :puke2:) but some, like Everytime, are rather beautiful. In 2004, I was very much still a massive Britney and pop fan but it was all beggining to change and though I liked Britney's new stuff when she came back post breakdown in 2008 I wasn't overly sold as my tastes had changed but I do like to come back and listen to her music from 99-05 as she was an important part of my childhood and developing musical taste. Everytime is a goodbye in away, a goodbye to Britney's commercial high and me being a kid still very much into pop music

52. Evanescence // Bring Me to Life // July 2003

Peak: #2
Weeks on Chart: 25
Points: 763

Stuck behind "Crazy in Love" in the runner up spot for 3 weeks, Bring Me to Life is the highest rank song on this chart that didn't make it to the number one position on my personal charts. A band I discovered through my elder cousin, they really looked out of place in my music collection for sometime but I fell in love with the album Fallen and it was my #1 album of 2003 by some distance.

51. Linkin Park // Breaking The Habbit // January 2004

I've always loved Linkin Park, deffinately my favourite band that rose from the NuMetal wave at the beggining of the decade. I remember this being actually quite scary and dark to me at the time, as well Everybody's Fool by Evanescence, but in my opinion it is their second greatest song - their first is still coming up. Awesome music video as well, one of my favourites of the decade

50. Destiny's Child // Say My Name // March 2000

13 years on, and with the exception of Crazy in Love, Say My Name is still the finest thing Beyonce has ever been involved with for me. Maybe that is because I'm not too big of a fan of hers but Say My Name is truly fantastic piece of late 90's/early 00's pop and stands as Destiny's Child's best song ever.

49. The Script // We Cry // May 2008

I may have massively gone off them since the release of '#3' last year (and Danny on the Voice as well) but when I first discovered The Script back in early 2008 it started off a 2 year obsession with them for me. We Cry is a fantastic social commentary kind of song, in a way everything Hall of Fame should be, and it actually helped get a good grade on a project in school where we had to find a song or a film that reflected troubles in society and I picked this

094. Sugababes // Shape // March 2003

Peak: #3

Weeks on Chart: 19

Points: 565

Damn butterflies

It's funny the affect your parents can have on your music taste really. I was brought up on Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and Madonna through my mother and Bon Jovi, REM and U2 through my father which is why I suppose my music taste is so damn broad. "Shape" was my mother's favourite song from the Angels with the Dirty Faces album which my elder sister Heather was a big fan of in 2002 and when my mum learnt how to burn CD's she put this on and played it too us all the time in the car and in time I grew to love it, I didn't like it at first and considered it boring preferring to more obvious Round Round but in time I came to appreciate this (and Stronger) as the best songs from that era

I know right! I didn't actually find music by myslef until I got interested in the charts, in late 2010! Before that, the music I listened to was essentially my dad's CDs (which I still listen to now, but I now also find my music myself). And this is a quite interesting list here! I'm going to do the same for my top 200 in 2014 (non-2014 songs included).
