October 3, 201213 yr Not sure about Mumford & Sons, this album was always going to be a massive #1 and album 3 will probably be big as well but past that I could see their career dying off a bit. I do agree re: Keane as well but if 'Strangeland' could still be a pretty easy #1 (albeit on a low sales week) without a top 40 single their name clearly still has some power. Coldplay, Arctics and The Killers I could see going until they split, certainly at least Coldplay. There's also U2 who I forgot to mention, with 'Achtung Baby' being their only album since the very start of their career that didn't get #1 and that only missed out to Michael Jackson's follow-up to 'Bad'. Been a while since the last U2 album, I wonder what they're up to... The loon in me wants to point out The Prodigy's 4-album #1 streak as well but realistically they're far from guaranteed #1 with their next release. Sales in the week of "Dangerous" and "Achtung Baby" must have been gigantic, the latter will probably have one of the highest non-December openings for a #2 ever. U2 are pretty assured of #1 next time out unless they do something similar again, "No Line On The Horizon" sold 157k with a single that only I seemed to like.
October 3, 201213 yr I remember that Gotta Be You was #1 on the midweek chart and ended up at #3 on Sunday's chart. So it looks like something similar is gonna happen again to One Direction.

I really thought all those pre-orders/EPs would give them more of an advantage...eh, why would you want this new one when you have a far better version thats already been released :P Around 120-5k looking likely for Muse then? they're behind what Mumfords sold and they'll probably have a far bigger drop next week, but I'd still consider that satisfying.

October 3, 201213 yr Why what the hell that is? :o I'm also surprised Red & Play Hard are not top 40. 'Red' had max 1 day sales (I think not even that) counting towards today's mids, it'll easily be top 30 and maybe even closer to top 20 on the Friday update.
October 3, 201213 yr As with most Rihanna singles (certainly the first ones off her albums) it'll be one of those singles that's a slow burner given how quickly it's gone from first play to charting. I really like 'Diamonds', it's a welcome change in sound after the 'Talk That Talk' stuff which I wasn't really that keen on. It'll probably get into it's stride more once a video's released and she's out promoting it etc.
October 4, 201213 yr Hard to know what will happen to Diamonds after this initial week with the impact date for the song probably being in 4 weeks so radio airplay will increase and then it depends when the videos released - she could maintain sales - it all depends on whether the song is well recieved which it might not be compared with WFL and OG etc!

October 4, 201213 yr Rihanna can do no wrong, almost everything she releases sells very well, i do enjoy some of her material but i think im just getting tired of her as she never seems to go away. Obviously herself and her record company know only to well that taken a break allows someone else to steal your fans so they are clearly not going to let that happen.

October 4, 201213 yr I know a lot of people seem to not like Diamonds or thought it wouldn't be as big as her other recent leads after hearing it but have to say i (still) don't agree. Another club banger or aggressive record retreading the same producers would give a big short term hit but wouldn't have kept her on top for much longer. Diamonds still has a compelling beat that pulls you forward without being too in your face (which Rihanna lets face it needs to be a little less, she never goes away!). Sia is also songwriter de jour (this year anyway) and her own works are great so no surprise she has given Rihanna a good tune (can totally hear Sia singing it when i hear it actually). I do think it's a bit too repetitive but no worse than most pop which seems to becoming more and more like this, (with one line repeated choruses appearing more and more). The beat catches you quick but i do think this will be a steady burner, converting more and more people over once they hear it more and make the transition from her previous sound. Getting no1 will increase her airplay, then a video, "official" release date with CDS/digital "EP" etc, and then when the album's out cherrypicks of that. Could see this hanging around, not diminishing on itunes at all just now (1D down further to 45% and PSY down to 75% when was 80% yesterday). This will be no1 #7 for her if i'm not mistaken? drawing level with some of the all-time greats at that level! Edited October 4, 201213 yr by spicefunk
