To be fair though, it's almost 4 years since they last released anything. That is a very long time in the pop world.

On the bright side this is Cheryl's 28th career top 10 single :)

Nothing about this comeback was half-arsed. They've promoted more than pretty much anyone else in recent memory with the exception of Syco acts like One D and Little Mix. The press conference, the tabloid coverage, the Ray Kay directed video - they went all out with this campaign. And they got a #2 smash so it's all good.

If "Ten" even hits the Top 3, I'll be surprised.

We're 4 weeks from Christmas. A couple of weeks top 10 will be a good enough start.

 

At the end of the day, if the album ends up not selling well, we can blame the label/marketing team.

 

I mean, it's not like launching a new band. With GA, they have AMAZING material to work with : a band with many many and a wide popularity appeal.

If their label can't sell hundreds of thousands with that, then they haven't done their job or they have done something wrong.

Hundreds of thousands of an album that contains over half of the tracks of an album that has sold more than a million copies? I think that'd be pretty good going.It'll probably easily do 100k+ total sales in the run up to Christmas anyway!

In comparison look at McFly, also released a Greatest Hits at around the same time as Girls Aloud's first one, they are both releasing Greatest Hits albums again this year, McFly have been everywhere promoting their single and new hits album. Girls Aloud have done two performances of Something New and one of one of the new songs on the album. One interview on BBC Breakfast, and nothing the rest of the week, I mean I know they have things to do such as Cheryl hiding from the press, Nuhdeen trying to find her passport, Kimberly has some dancing to do, Nicola has some make up to do or wants to look sad and Sarah is probably drinking someone where... I've forgotten my point.

I mean "The Promise" opened with 77,110 in it's first week, so I kindah expected them to get similar figures or more. There is no hype whatsoever about their reunion.

So happy they held onto the number 2 position, my only worry now is will it fall out of the top 10 next week.

Anyone who thinks they should still be promoting singles like they did say 'Long Hot Summer' clearly didn't pay any attention to their last two album campaigns or any of Cheryl's subsequent solo ones...no matter anyway it's amazing that they made #2 even after 3 years away - definitely not a disaster by any stretch of the imagination!

 

Anyway album's out tomorrow :) Can't wait for my boxset to arrive!

Considering there are so many new acts on the scene since they last released as a group they have/are doing great. I just hope the album can sell now, all going well i think ten will outsell Cheryls a million lights.
