October 25, 201212 yr Ed Sheeran's progress is just getting FRUSTRATING now. He'd better not peaking at number fucking 41 :drama: His run so far: 95-98-99-92-85-75-73-69-69-61-52-48-45-43-41- Ne-Yo took his time to crack the top 10, but glad he's finally managed it (and Rihanna as well). I was about to say "HE CLEARLY WON'T" but I see he's #34 on US iTunes when Taylor is removed, which is a fair bit lower than he was a few days ago. Back up to $1.29 too, perhaps he will peak at #41 (we can only hope!). Nice to see Ellie on the rise and 'I Knew You Were Trouble' falling faster than 'Live While We're Young' did from the same position :D Edited October 25, 201212 yr by Umi
October 25, 201212 yr 13 45 Adele 'Skyfall' ^ Ouch. Big drop for this, though I imagine it'll climb once the airplay kicks in.
October 25, 201212 yr it's weird that Calvin Harris & Florence only got to number 96 while they were in the itunes top 20 for most of the week, must be the airplay/streaming effect..... hope Cher lloyd 'Oath' gets in the Hot 100 soon...
October 26, 201212 yr Slightly random return for this thread but I must say the changes to the Billboard rules to include digital + streaming data in the genre charts is incredibly annoying. Brandy is #1 on Urban radio right now and instead of claiming a #1 on the RnB/Hip Hop chart she's #16 (thankfully she managed a #3 peak prior to the rule change). Edited October 26, 201212 yr by Umi

Brandy is #1 on Urban radio right now and instead of claiming a #1 on the RnB/Hip Hop chart she's #16 (thankfully she managed a #3 peak prior to the rule change). Now the genre charts are just the same as the UK's, where it's the official charts with the songs considered not in the genre taken out. I think it's better in a way, since it reflects better what the most popular "R&B/hip hop" song is. Before, a song that was popular in the urban community, but that nobody else in the country knew about, could get #1, but now a song actually has to be quite popular overall to get #1. And it'll also crack down on artists releasing seperate singles for different formats, since now to get high on the urban charts, your song has to crossover, and actually be a big hit. The main issue here is that it's up to Billboard to classify what goes in each genre. Realistically, As Long as You Love Me by Justin Bieber is more R&B/hip-hop than Diamonds is, and should be #1 on the urban chart atm, in my opinion. But obviously the white person doesn't get put on the chart with his "fairly urban" song, and the black person does get put on the chart, with her "only slightly urban" song. On another note, I can't believe Ke$ha is #5. I really thought the US had moved over from songs like this, after having them dominte 2010-2011, and then having hardly any of them do well in 2012. But I guess not. :drama: Edited October 26, 201212 yr by Eric_Blob

Oh, I do think it's more representitive this way (but as you say they need to classify things better), but it's just sad to see artists who make an unpopular genre of music, who used to get hits on their genre charts, flopping because songs that loosely fit into that genre but are far more mainstream are hoovering up all the top positions.

Yeah, I know what you mean there. It's a shame in that respect. Although they do still publish genre airplay charts, but they don't really mean anything anymore.
