November 6, 201212 yr Yes, it was the worst UK # 1 SONG for me. P.S. : I don't count retro instrumental tracks from 50s-60s, ringtone from Crazy Frog and the same things. Why would you not count Crazy Frog as a #1 song when it clearly is? Some bizarre logic in this thread. (Also, I swear that Florin Street Band song gets posted on here several times every year, are they paying certain members to promote them or something?) Edited November 6, 201212 yr by Bré
November 6, 201212 yr So the xmas chart is basically gonna be: 01 NE Hillsborough Charity Single 02 01 XF Winner's Single SNOOZE. I actually forgot about Alex Day's new song. I suspect if this is some sort of Xmas No.1 campaign, his fanbase will be out in their droves buying all the remixes, acoustic versions and whatnot
November 6, 201212 yr Why would you not count Crazy Frog as a #1 song when it clearly is? Some bizarre logic in this thread. Because it's not a song. Yes, it was realised as single and reach # 1, but I don't want compare it or any instrumental tracks (Albatross from Fleetwood Mac was most known instrumental # 1) with really AWFUL songs. For simple: Big Ben - Millennium Chimes was # 53 in official UK charts. + I forgot the title, but 1 single didn't have any lyrics or even any instrumental part, it was only some minutes of the silence.
November 6, 201212 yr I hate to sound like a snob but there does seem to be a striking correlation between people who hate "Killing In The Name" and people who have a terrible music taste. Just ask, Is it about me ?
November 6, 201212 yr + I forgot the title, but 1 single didn't have any lyrics or even any instrumental part, it was only some minutes of the silence. You must be talking about Cage Against The Machine. That was a stupid pointless Xmas #1 campaign. I'm glad it flopped. There was also that Royal British Leigon 2 minute silence thing which was 2 minutes of battle noises, I think that went top 20 (at least this one was for a good cause)
November 6, 201212 yr Just ask, Is it about me ? Not especially. You're quite self-centred, aren't you?
November 6, 201212 yr I actually forgot about Alex Day's new song. I suspect if this is some sort of Xmas No.1 campaign, his fanbase will be out in their droves buying all the remixes, acoustic versions and whatnot He's announcing his plans on 2nd December. From the sounds of things, he's going to be doing more promotion with radio stations ect., and continue to promote the song after the initial week of sales which sounds like a very good idea to try and avoid dropping out of the top 100 after a week. I haven't heard the song, so I'm not going to say "I hope it does really well", as I might hate it for all I know, but as an Alex Day fan I'm looking forward to hearing it for the first time.
November 6, 201212 yr LOL at the suggestion Killing In The Name Of was the worst number 1 Does this count as a song? bdTELokKfCk One million copies sold. Edited November 6, 201212 yr by JCR
November 7, 201212 yr Yes, it was the worst UK # 1 SONG for me. P.S. : I don't count retro instrumental tracks from 50s-60s, ringtone from Crazy Frog and the same things. Hang on a second...Telstar is a 'retro instrumental track' from 1962 and it's one of the finest number one singles we've ever heard. I'm starting to question your judgement!
November 7, 201212 yr LOL at the suggestion Killing In The Name Of was the worst number 1 Does this count as a song? bdTELokKfCk One million copies sold. Doctorin' the Tardis didn't sell anywhere near one million copies. The difference between the Timelords and the Rage Against X-Factor campaign is Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty deliberately set out to subvert the pop charts, to steal music and sell it back to the masses. Then they wrote a well-received booklet on how to do it. It was intended to be as bare-facedly commercial as possible hence why the Dalek voices are shouting 'dosh dosh dosh...Loadsamoney!' The irony, I guess, is that Dr Who was fast losing popularity at this time...and is now massively popular with an awful new theme tune. All the Rage Against the Machine campaign was a bunch of kids on Facebook agreeing to buy another copy of a song they already had.

November 8, 201212 yr Last Christmas I came across this song and I believe it can be a classic in the future, if someone famous covers it. H10f2w7T5CU This is brilliant, definitely what Christmas Number 1s should be about. Someone needs to start a campaign to get it to Number 1!!
November 8, 201212 yr Yes, but what did they *create*? Nothing. History - one of the greatest battles for xmas no1 beating the XF which dominated the race for years!
November 8, 201212 yr This is brilliant, definitely what Christmas Number 1s should be about. Someone needs to start a campaign to get it to Number 1!! When people start doing their annual download of Fairytale Of New York and All I Want For Christmas Is You, they could download this (Florin Street Band - My Favourite Time Of Year) as well.
November 8, 201212 yr Gabrielle Aplin is now 3rd favourite to be Christmas #1 behind the Hillsborough and X Factor singles! :cheer: I know it'll be nearly impossible for her to beat them, but its so good that she has a good chance of doing well! :D
November 8, 201212 yr When people start doing their annual download of Fairytale Of New York and All I Want For Christmas Is You, they could download this (Florin Street Band - My Favourite Time Of Year) as well. Yeah but how would they know about it? Most people won't even be aware the track exists. I didn't until today, but I'll definitely download it Christmas week!
November 9, 201212 yr Gabrielle Aplin is now 3rd favourite to be Christmas #1 behind the Hillsborough and X Factor singles! :cheer: I know it'll be nearly impossible for her to beat them, but its so good that she has a good chance of doing well! :D It's conceivable that she could get to #1 before Christmas week, with the CD single now available to buy in John Lewis stores. zNpeK7sDLzE Hope it leads to a resurgence in the original by FGTH too.
November 9, 201212 yr It has FGTH version is top 200 again lol - wonder if it could peak higher this year. Does anyone know where its got to in previous xmases?
