November 10, 201212 yr That's not a bad version actually although I'm not too fond of the original (goes on a little bit too long, sorry). The video is shockingly uninspired though.
November 10, 201212 yr I'm wet at the thought of Mel C having another #1, will be buying this for that reason.
November 10, 201212 yr ^ I second that its criminal she hasn't had more commercial success in the UK of recent years. also LOVE this will be her forth Christmas #1 if it gets to the top!
November 14, 201212 yr XF confirmed this morning their single will be released the week before the xmas no1 race - so the media are reporting that XF might not get there again!
November 14, 201212 yr Girls Aloud have just joined the race with Beautiful 'Cause You Love Me being released on December 17th, 2012. 10 Years since Sound of the Underground was Christmas Number 1.
November 14, 201212 yr Here's the newsbeat story to go with that - also says the charity record could be still happening - X Factor to bow out of the Christmas chart battle Page last updated at 06:07 GMT, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 Newsbeat entertainment reporter The X Factor is taking itself out of this year's race for Christmas number one, Newsbeat has learnt. It's thought the show will hold its final on 9 December, a fortnight before the Christmas chart will be announced. Traditionally The X Factor has wrapped up the week before the Christmas singles chart, to maximise potential for reaching the festive top spot. Last year Christmas Day fell on a Sunday, with the TV show ending earlier than past years. Christmas run In 2011 winners Little Mix got to number one with their cover of Cannonball on their first week of release, but couldn't hold on to the top spot on 25 December when the Military Wives claimed top spot. It's been confirmed that The X Factor production teams are working towards the earlier dates for the show ending this year, although ITV would not reveal the final schedule until nearer the time. Rage Against The Machine beat Joe McElderry to the Christmas number one The X Factor had an unbroken run of topping the Christmas chart from its second series in 2005 when Shayne Ward won, until 2008 when Alexandra Burke had a Christmas number one single with Hallelujah. In 2009 though, an online campaign started by Jon Morter was successful in ending the festive chart predictability by getting Rage Against the Machine to number one instead of X Factor winner Joe McElderry. The TV show triumphed the following year with Matt Cardle's cover of Biffy Clyro's Many of Horror (renamed When We Collide). It lost out again last year when the power of the Military Wives and choir leader Gareth Malone proved unstoppable. Martin Talbot, managing director of the official charts company, said: "Last year, it meant that Little Mix's debut single Cannonball had its strongest week before the battle for festive Number one was underway - letting in the Military Wives with Wherever You Are. "But with rumours that the X Factor finalists' single is also due to be a charity single, that could help it sustain through a second week and right into Christmas - if they get the song and the charitable cause right." November 14, 201212 yr Girls Aloud could be a contender, their only competition on December 17th is the Hillsborough charity single. So they could go top 3 at Christmas.
November 14, 201212 yr I'm not sure what to make of the Hillsborough single's Number 1 prospects yet. The cause, as I understand it, is to raise funds for judicial reviews and other legal challenges starting with new inquests. These are widely supported demands, but I wonder if the BBC might see it as too political and back away from much airplay/ support (which would only be on Radio 2 anyway, even if Radio 1-friendly acts appear on the record I can't see them playing any version of He Ain't Heavy). The Hillsborough group certainly has an effective marketing presence, witness the very large amount of coverage that the announcement of the plans for the record got. But, it has been quiet since that initial announcement, has the single been recorded yet, is there a possibility it might not come off, at least not in time for Xmas? Paddy Power currently has the Hillsborough single as 18/25 favourite for the Xmas Number 1.

November 14, 201212 yr So far xmas week looks like being the quietiest in years - artists need to realise they can get the xmas no1 again - we are in that middle era when XF is still ruling but with low sales - hopefully we'll be back to the pre-2004 era again soon!!
November 14, 201212 yr Girls Aloud could be a contender, their only competition on December 17th is the Hillsborough charity single. So they could go top 3 at Christmas. You realise this is going to be a post-album single right?
November 23, 201212 yr The Top10 2012 Christmas Number 1 contenders revealed! 23/11/2012 By Dan Lane In exactly a month from today (December 23), we’ll be counting down the Official Christmas Singles Chart and revealing who’s scored this year’s Christmas Number 1. With record sales at an annual high over the Christmas period, the Christmas Number 1 single has been THE chart topper every artist has wanted to get since the Official Singles Chart began in 1952. And this year is no exception. Let’s have a look at the Top 10 2012 contenders… Make sure you're following Official Charts on Twitter and Facebook to find out first! Carly Rae Jepsen – This Kiss She’s Canada’s biggest export since Bryan Adams, and like his smash hit (Everything I Do) I Do It For You was the nation’s (not so) guilty pleasure of 1991, Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe is the track we’ve all been boogying to in our bedrooms this year. Carly releases her new single, This Kiss, on December 10, the week before the Official Christmas Singles Chart sales period begins. Conor Maynard – Animal It’s been quite a year for Conor Maynard. The 20 year old from Brighton won MTV’s prestigious Brand New For 2012 poll back in January, had a Number 2 single in April, and a Number 1 album in August. His upcoming single, the Justin Timberlake-tinged Animal, isn’t remotely festive, but his legions of Mayniacs will no doubt give it their best shot at making it the Official 2012 Christmas Number 1 when it’s released on December 16. Gabrielle Aplin – The Power Of Love Gabrielle Aplin, the voice behind this year's heart-warming John Lewis Christmas TV advert, is currently riding high in the Official Singles Chart with her cover of Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s 1984 hit The Power Of Love. But will the British public be spurred on to buy her single in the week leading up to Christmas? Or will it suffer a similar fate to the original, which lost out to Band Aid’s Do They Know It’s Christmas? for the 1984 Christmas Number 1? Girls Aloud - Beautiful Cause You Love Me Girls Aloud were the Official Christmas Number 1 of 2002 with their debut single, Sound Of The Underground. Ten years on and the recently reunited girl group are hoping to do it all again! Their new track, Beautiful Cause You Love Me, is out on December 16. The Justice Collective - He Ain’t Heavy… He’s My Brother Featuring Paul McCartney, Melanie C, Robbie Williams, Rebecca Ferguson, Holly Johnson, Paloma Faith, Andy Brown (Lawson), Mick Jones (The Clash), Dave McCabe (The Zutons), Paul Heaton (Beautiful South), John Power (Cast), Shane McGowan (The Pogues), Beverley Knight and Gerry Marsden (Gerry And The Pacemakers), among others, The Justice Collective’s cover of The Hollies’ 1969 hit He Ain’t Heavy… He’s My Brother is the bookies’ favourite for the 2012 Christmas Number 1. All proceeds will go towards the legal costs of a fresh inquest into the 1989 Hillsborough tragedy, which led to the deaths of 96 people. The Killers – Here With Me Taken from their latest album, Battle Born, the Las Vegas rockers’ new balladtastic single, Here With Me, was co-written by Travis frontman Fran Healy. Despite having four Number 1 albums on the Official Albums Chart, The Killers are yet to score an Official Number 1 single. Will Christmas 2012 change all that? Kylie Minogue – On A Night Like This Celebrating her 25th year in music this year, Kylie Minogue is set to release a new version of her 2000 Number 2 single, On A Night Like This, on December 16. The track is taken from her new album, The Abbey Road Sessions, which features re-recorded versions of 16 of her classic tracks. Kylie’s last Christmas Number 1 attempt was in 1988 when Especially For You, her duet with Jason Donovan, lost out to Cliff Richard’s Mistletoe And Wine. The Pogues FT Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale Of New York Originally released in 1987, Fairytale Of New York is widely regarded as one of the greatest Christmas singles never to have reached Number 1; so much so that this heartfelt tale of Christmas excess has re-entered the Official Christmas Singles Chart Top 20 every year for the past seven years. With a special 25th anniversary re-release planned for this December, will 2012 be the year that this ‘lost Christmas Number 1’ finally claims the festive top spot? Robbie Williams - Different After achieving an Official Singles Chart and Official Albums Chart double this year with Candy and Take The Crown, Robbie Williams is very much back on top. But can the cheeky chappie from Stoke repeat the performance of his 2001 Christmas Number 1, Something Stupid with Nicole Kidman, with his new single, Different? X Factor - TBC Having dominated the Official Christmas Singles Chart for five of the last seven years, this year’s X Factor winner is a definite contender for the 2012 Christmas Number 1. However, with the live final set to take place on Sunday, December 9, and the winner’s single set to be released digitally after the show airs on ITV 1, either Christopher Maloney, Jahmene Douglas, James Arthur, Rylan Clark or Union J will need a strong second week sale to stand a chance of taking the festive top spot. Other Possible Contenders With Rod Stewart and Christina Perri having just released Christmas albums (Merry Christmas, Baby and A Very Merry Perri Christmas, respectively) and Michael Buble’s album, Christmas, having just been re-issued, you can’t bet against one of these heavy hitters’ festive ditties for the Christmas Number 1. Nor should you rule out the novelty, such as a track from Blink 182’s forthcoming Dogs Eating Dogs EP or internet sensation Muhammad Shahid Nazir’s £1 Fish…
November 23, 201212 yr Carly Rae Jepsen – This Kiss She’s Canada’s biggest export since Bryan Adams Since Bryan Adams? Isn't Celine Dion bigger?
November 23, 201212 yr internet sensation Muhammad Shahid Nazir’s £1 Fish… Get this to xmas #1  I acutually saw this man singing this song, he's bare funny. Edited November 23, 201212 yr by Pablo Escobar
November 23, 201212 yr Since Bryan Adams? Isn't Celine Dion bigger? Michael Bublé is infinitely bigger as are several other Canadian artists. Carly has had 2 hits (one of which was a significant underperformance) and her album didn't do that well. Even within the same general area, how did the OCC overlook Justin Bieber? Just because he doesn't have a #1? But he has two top 3 albums, two more than Carly :P
November 23, 201212 yr Author In a perfect world I prefer the Killers track as the Christmas #1, Here With Me, its just a great track to end the year with  the lyrics are just perfect.
