Sorry that the Hillsborough thing happened but surely there are WAY more important things to raise money for? :manson:

Its a whole lot worse than just the tragedy. The police blamed the victims, took blood samples of children for alcohol, said that the people who were trying to help victims were peeing on the paramedics when the paramedics were stopped from getting in by said police, they authorised the opening of the main gate because the ticket stalls were broke and then said it was the fans who caused the accident because they pushed, they said that fellow fans stole from the pockets of the dead, they manipulated the media and the government into making Liverpudlians the scum of the Earth for their own reputation. Not to mention the inquest was inept, they ignored all evidence after a cut off time where they said everyone who died was dead despite medical evidence to the contrary. They'll have my money, let the Yorkshire Police be dragged through the mud with bells on.

Pavel's Russian, so the Hillsborough tragedy won't mean much to him.

(I'm not saying that Pavel hates Britain, I'm saying that his sense of perspective might not be as strong as ours are)

I don't know why people (in general terms) criticise others who don't want the Hillsborough single to be #1 on Christmas. I think the insult lies in the cynical figures in the music industry who shamelessly exploit tragic circumstances just to squeeze money out of people and to get recognition for themselves.

Why not just donate directly to charity?

Imo, I would rather 'Fairytale Of New York' or 'Last Christmas' (no chance) to be this year's Xmas #1. It's about time the Xmas #1 actually reflected festivity and all the charity singles were pushed back to another time of year.

Why do charity singles have to be released on Christmas week every year? It actually ruins the chart. Once a charity song is actually listenable and good, I'll be interested.

People could say the same about FONY or Last Christmas, why do they have to suffer them ever year. I for one want to rip my ears off by about Dec 20th after hearing Slade scream their way through their 'xmas classic' for the 500th million time.

I am all for Christmas songs, but dear god please can we have some new ones. Otherwise if we cant have great new Christmas songs, I'd rather have some charity song than Wizzard.

Obviously it all comes down to taste, but I'd rather a crap Christmas song went to Xmas #1 instead of a crap charity single. Likewise, I'd rather a great Christmas song went to Xmas #1 instead of a great charity single. I don't want to hear some morbid/soppy "Mad World"-style track at the top of the charts every Christmas.

Some could argue FONY and LC deserve (and let's not be pedantic about my choice of word, it's clear what I mean) to go to #1/sell well every year since there's clearly public demand for the song - no other factor. Christmas charity songs (or at least Military Wives and this new one) are tailor-made for Christmas week and then nose-dive right down the charts, never to be seen again. On the other hand, FONY and LC keep re-entering every year because people clearly enjoy them musically.

Or there is just very little other option than FONY and LC at Christmas. Lots of factors have contributed to artist rarely ever releasing Christmas songs anymore, but all it has done has make the ones we have got stagnate.

Plenty of people still make Christmas songs, it's just that none of them are 'classic'-worthy enough to stick around further than a single year. Even Coldplay are struggling (they only re-entered in the low top 70 a year after release (which is still much better than pretty much every other recent Christmas song) and are currently at #334 and #451 on iTunes, so potentially a third year in the Christmas top 200 but very unlikely to be any better). I'm confident that if someone gets the right song it will stick and join the classics but as it is the classics are classics for a reason. Even if they're absolutely God awful like Mariah's.

I think Christmas Lights is a classic. If it had have been released at the start of the week in 2010 and not a thursday evening then it could have been close to the number 1 spot that year.

Remember the way people hear songs has changed over the past 10-15 years so now every year all the mtv channels play xmas songs throughout the month of december so this helps in creating new classics. When i was younger we just had totps 2 every xmas eve lol!

Had colour T.V been invented yet then :P

It was much better though lol, i looked forward to totps 2 every xmas eve to watch the xmas songs whereas these days there on every channel and i end up turning it over all the time bored lol!
I'm already obsessed with the Justice Collective song, it's so brilliantly produced and there are some great singers on it. It helps that it's an excellent song to start with. I wonder how massive it will be.
I do hope next year that now record labels realise that the X Factor domination is all but over and that more than likely a charity release will just be released and get number 1, that they will start releasing major new releases in the Christmas week. I'm not even fussed with them not being Christmas songs just INTERESTING, it'll be ten years since the Mad World/Darkness Christmas battle, I can only hope that a battle like that would come about next year!

^^Here here, lets move on to the next era of xmas no1s and get rid of XF nonsense for good!! The big popstars could release their big quarter 4 singles on xmas week instead of 10th november now they have a chance of no1 again!!

But the XF is only released a week earlier these past 2 years because of the way xmas day has fallen - next year with Simon Cowell back itll be like a fresh start for the show and he will fix it so someone great wins and the single will be released on xmas week again i fear!!

The Military Wives song "Wherever You Are" was not "tailor-made for Christmas week". It was tailor-made for the National Service of Remembrance in the first half of November and then released due to public demand

They knew it would sell far better in the xmas chart though - which is fair play imo!
For a charity single with like a million people on it it is pretty good, wont mind that being xmas #1

The Justice Collective is now a best-priced 4-1 ON to be Christmas number one, with the X-Factor winner at 6-1, with Gabrielle Aplin at 25-1.

Something called "Voices Of The Big Sing" is 10-1 (but only with one bookie quoting), with The Choir at 25-1, and both Girls Aloud and JLS available at 40-1 No prices for Alex Day and that "One Pound Fish" song is a 50-1 outsider.

Jesus christ, that video/song is dire. How grim.

None of the old men look like they have particularly long left.

Mel C, Beverley Knight and Eliza Doolittle? Oh dear.

I could only listen to half of that, what a pile of sh*t! Helping Haiti was better than that. Hardly knew any of the people singing it.

Prepare for the worst ever Top 2 Christmas chart. :mansoncheer:
