July 29, 201311 yr John Williams is now attached to score the next Trilogy. SO at least it will sound pretty, if nothing else.
July 29, 201311 yr It would be wrong if he wasn't there. His scores have gotten even more repetitive of late but they really are integral to the whole feel of the franchise.
July 29, 201311 yr Woo John Williams. General Grievous is one of the characters I never want to see again. A film about Han and Lando set between III and IV could be great fun.
July 29, 201311 yr General Grievous was such a disappointment. I remember seeing him in the original Clone Wars (the animated one by Tartakovsky), and they had him fight in such a bizarre, unorthadox way. It was really interesting to watch. Then in the film, he just windmilled at speed. Potentially fun character totally wasted.
July 29, 201311 yr There's a lot of flaws with the new trilogy, but I've never really had an issue with Grievous. Sure he wasn't the best, but there was oh so much worse. One of my biggest issues actually was how they turned R2D2 into a swiss army droid.

One of my biggest issues actually was how they turned R2D2 into a swiss army droid. The combination of these two factors makes the first half hour of Revenge of the Sith excruciating.
July 29, 201311 yr It's not without flaws (those being 2 of them), but Revenge Of The Sith is still a very good film in my opinion. I guess it helps given we know where it ends so it's more a case of how they get there than their rather feeble attempts at weaving new characters and stories in in the 2 previous films. I'd actually rank it third of all 6 films: 01 Return Of The Jedi 02 A New Hope 03 Revenge Of The Sith 04 The Empire Strikes Back 05 The Phantom Menace 06 Attack Of The Clones Now if Empire existed in a version where the scenes on Dagobah took place for about 5 minutes then it would probably be second but as is I have to skip what feels like half the movie any time I watch it.
July 29, 201311 yr It goes like this 1 The Empire Strikes Back - Almost too good to be a dumb space fantasy. Has the least crap director and script (nerf herder aside) 2 A New Hope - just great (dumb) fun - crap script - director has sense of fun 3 Revenge Of The Sith - Decent but something of a missed opportunity (crap script - Younglings!!! - Wtf?) Helped by not being directed solely by Lucas. 4 Return Of The Jedi - Spoilt by Ewoks and turning the uber cool Boba Fett into a great big bumbling fool. Crap script 5 Attack Of The Clones - Would be so much better without the turgid romance, crap script. 6 The Phantom Menace - Crap director, crap script, crap story, crap characters, crap cast (except McDiarmid and Neeson but he seems bored by the whole thing). Just plain crap. As for Grievous I think he's a great character who just wasn't executed particularly well. Hence why I'd like to see more. Oh and the last thing I want is a Yoda film. 2nd only to Binks in annoying-ness
July 29, 201311 yr 01 The Empire Strikes Back - probably the best popcorn film ever 02 A New Hope - I find it impossible to view it objectively but almost every scene is incredibly evocative 03 Return of the Jedi - plays out like a parody of the first two at times but was my favourite as a kid and still an enormously satisfying conclusion 04 Revenge of the Sith - initially fails to correct II's flaws, then saves itself with a fantastic last 40 minutes 05 The Phantom Menace - awful story and script but Darth Maul, Liam Neeson, pod race, the best lightsabre battle and no Hayden Christiensen 06 Attack of the Clones - Dooku is not a lead villain, the CGI is unconvincing and the romance is physically painful. Ewan McGregor almost saves it
July 29, 201311 yr Sometimes I think the Star Wars Holiday Special is better than Phantom Menace lpSwJ0LlHGQ
July 29, 201311 yr Star Wars has been quite essential to my childhood, so I can't really be too unkind to them: Return of the Jedi - Random choice, but I have a lot of memories attached to this. Gotta love that Luke/Leia escape scene and the Ewoks. Manages to show a sense of humour as well. Empire Strikes Back - 'No Luke...I am your father' A New Hope - Classic, even if it is slightly cliched now. The Family Guy parody Blue Harvest was brilliant Revenge of the Sith - Probably my favourite when I was young, It's not aged so well, but it did seem a good wrapping up of the franchise (if you can call it that). On the topic of General Grievous, I really liked him, The only issue was I felt he was underused. Attack of the Clones - Don't remember anything about it really, though I do remember it being slightly more action packed than Phantom but the final scene was so underwhelming. The Phantom Menace - Darth Maul as a villain and some interesting characters are the only things that stand out here. Otherwise, fairly tedious. I do still maintain that the prequels had their moments though. Edited July 29, 201311 yr by Chez Wombat
July 30, 201311 yr I just think Episode I is more of a Star Wars film than II. The final sequence with the ground, space and lightsabre battles is a lovely homage to VI and the lightsabre battle itself is infinitely better than those in Attack of the Clones.
July 30, 201311 yr What madness is this? People actually rating Sith above Empire?!? The Empire Strikes Back is the best of the 6 films so far, just beating A New Hope. 1. The Empire Strikes Back 2. A New Hope 3. Return of the Sith 4. Return of the Jedi 5. Attack of the Clones 6. The Phantom Menace (Jar Jar Binks is the single worst character in the entire franchise)
July 30, 201311 yr What madness is this? People actually rating Sith above Empire?!? Just me I think and really Sith may have its flaws, but none of them are as bad nor do they interrupt the flow and my enjoyment of the film as much as Dagobah.
July 30, 201311 yr Just me I think and really Sith may have its flaws, but none of them are as bad nor do they interrupt the flow and my enjoyment of the film as much as Dagobah. I actually think Dagobah adds a lot to the film. Yoda is at his least cornball and the Vader scene is a good foreshadowing of the ending. Maybe I can overlook a lot of it's flaws as I was 11 when I first saw it back in 1980. I was 14 when Jedi came out so considered (and still do) the Ewoks unforgiveable. And Episodes I-III just didn't matter quite so much to me when they came out.
July 30, 201311 yr I think I must have watched them all for the first time in 1997 when they were re-released on VHS when I was 7 so that's probably tainted my views somewhat the other way. Though I've watched them all about 20 times since then anyway. I do appreciate the Vader thing in the cave (even though I think the execution was ham fisted) and I liked the whole training aspect and the way Yoda fitted into it but it just took WAY, WAY too long. Even now I'm never happy with extended scenes in films where it's basically just exposition. I love it in TV shows, especially stuff like GoT, but the nature of the medium allows that and allows you to gradually build up that kind of relationship with a character. In a 2 hour (ish) film it just acts like a big bucket of cold water for me. Which is a shame. That said Star Wars is still one of my very favourite movie franchises and second only to Star Trek in sci-fi terms.
July 30, 201311 yr What often gets forgotten is that back in 1980 the ending to Empire was for many people a complete and utter shock. I was 8 and had no inkling Vader would be his Dad. 'No Luke... I.. Am... Your Father' was a complete curveball and for me remains one of the great shock endings incinematic history. The prequels and the passage of time have robbed Empire of that
July 30, 201311 yr What I also liked about Empire is the way that The Rebels had to retreat and regroup at the end of the film as it had all gone fairly badly wrong. And then we had to wait three whole years for the problems to be sorted. The trilogy would all have been shot together now, or at least Episodes V and VI.
July 31, 201311 yr 01 The Empire Strikes Back - probably the best popcorn film ever 02 A New Hope - I find it impossible to view it objectively but almost every scene is incredibly evocative 03 Return of the Jedi - plays out like a parody of the first two at times but was my favourite as a kid and still an enormously satisfying conclusion 04 Revenge of the Sith - initially fails to correct II's flaws, then saves itself with a fantastic last 40 minutes 05 The Phantom Menace - awful story and script but Darth Maul, Liam Neeson, pod race, the best lightsabre battle and no Hayden Christiensen 06 Attack of the Clones - Dooku is not a lead villain, the CGI is unconvincing and the romance is physically painful. Ewan McGregor almost saves it I totally agree with this order :D
July 31, 201311 yr I read a little snippet about the film that it might be based around Han and Leia's twin daughters Jacen and Jaina from the Expanded Universe books, from the August edition Scfi Now magazine. I have received mine through mail order, it should be on the book shelves tomorrow.
