Obviously this isn't a poll to predict its position. :)

It's about whether you consider it to be a Christmas song, as the question seems to come up every year.

Unlike the obvious ones I don't just play it at Christmas, I play it all year, so for me - no. The only Christmas part of it is the video.

If anything, with its mentions of vampires etc it should be a Halloween song!

On that basis, for me 'Fairytale Of New York' is also not an Xmas song... :)

If it's in the Buzzjack's Favourite Christmas Songs shortlist, it's a Christmas song.

I don't think it's a Christmas song - it's lyrics don't give reference to Christmas, I can't say I've ever heard it at Christmas and it doesn't sound like a Christmas song.

That said, I class Chiquitita and Stay Another Day as Christmas songs, although that's probably because I've heard them at Christmas and they sound like Christmas songs. Perhaps I may feel the same about The Power of Love if I hear it a lot this Christmas.

Songs dont specifically have to mention christmas to be christmas songs for me if they return to peoples consciousness each december then they are seasonal songs - i bet sales of Frankie's the Power of Love increase by a massive % each nov/dec, especially this year with the new version out (its already been top 75) so therefore this proves that its a song that will always associated with christmas even if it doesnt mention the word xmas!

You've never heard it at christmas?

Not knowingly, no. I didn't recognise it after listening to it a couple of weeks back or the Gabrielle Aplin's version.

It's not a Christmas song but it also is, just like Stay Another Day.

Exactly this. It may not necessarily reference Christmas, but that doesn't mean hasn't got anything to do with it. Look at the video, that for one would look extremely out of place played in the summer.

It's not a Christmas song, it's only associated with Christmas because of the time of year it was released (and I guess due to the video). As someone said earlier, the same goes for Stay Another Day - people regard that as a Christmas song, but if it had been released at a different time of year then no one would ever regard it as a Christmas song. Although having said that, Michael Jackson's Earth Song was #1 one Christmas but people don't call that a Christmas song - go figure!!
Definitely not a Christmas song.

I don't consider it to be a Christmas song as there is nothing in the lyrics that is anything to do with Christmas. Yes, the video is about as Chrismassy as you can possicly get (I don't recall ever seeing it at the time) but we're talking about the song, not the video. Perhaps Frankie thought that video would fit as the track was released at Christmas. I associate it with Christmas as it was released then and it has a certain sentimentality often found in Christmas songs, but that's about it.

Yes.

But it's awful repetitive.

Stay Another Day, like The Power Of Love, had a Christmassy video so it remains forever associated with the festive season. I don't regard either of them as Christmas songs but would include them in a Christmas rate because of their association with this time of year.

I think the video to TPOL has a Xmas theme IIRC.
