Posted August 16, 200619 yr Source: Music Week Shakira and Wyclef Jean have a battle on their hands to retain the number one spot this week, with a host of new singles threatening the top spot, according to early retail reports. David Guetta vs the Egg (Gusto) is leading the charge, closely followed by Arctic Monkeys’ Leave Before the Lights Come On (Domino), Chamillionaire feat. Krayzie Bone’s Ridin’ (Universal) and Cassie’s Me & U (Bad Boy). The fifth likely newcomer to the Top Ten is Micky Modelle V Jessy’s Dancing In The Dark (All Around The World). In contention for a Top 20 appearance are Iron Maiden (EMI), Alesha and Ronan Keating (both Polydor). With the singles market currently witnessing a 20% week-on-week sales increase, a raft of other acts including Maria Lawson (Phonoegenic), The Young Knives (Trangressive), The Sunshine Underground (City Rockers) and The Futureheads (679) are poised to enter the chart, although Chico’s DISCO looks unlikely to follow its predecessor It’s Chico Time to number one after sales flashes revealed it is languishing outside the Top 40. In the albums market, Christina Aguilera’s Back to Basics (RCA) is in line to become her first chart topping album after selling almost twice the amount of albums as the current number one James Morrison since its release yesterday. Other likely new entries in the album chart come from Captain (EMI), Lambchop (City Slang), the Mamas And The Papas (UMTV) and Peter Bjorn And John (Wichita), while Shayne Ward and Andy Abraham’s albums are both experiencing huge sales increases thanks to the TV exposure given to the X-Factor contestants over the weekend. =================================================================== Singles 01 Shakira feat. August 17, 200619 yr Author thanks for the updates I cant believe Shakira is going to be #1 AGAIN  Tell me about it, she is 1500 copies ahead.
August 17, 200619 yr Tell me about it, she is 1500 copies ahead. I think the only way to stop her is to take drastic action, whos up for distroying the factory were her cds are pressed
August 17, 200619 yr The Arctic Monkeys seem a bit low. A million people bought the first album then some new material comes out and, even at only 80p for the song, it sells perhaps 20,000 copies. That can't be a good sign. Edited August 17, 200619 yr by Tim
August 17, 200619 yr wow she increased her lead, and shes beating the arctic monkeys to #1 10 weeks after it's released :o And to think I thought it may scrape top 20 when first released  thanks for sales pm Mikey as well! :cheer:

August 17, 200619 yr Author Yay, Chico has jumped up :cheer: *runs and hides* You seem to be the only Chico fan  Apparently he was on GMTV.
August 17, 200619 yr The Arctic Monkeys seem a bit low. A million people bought the first album then some new material comes out and, even at only 80p for the song, it sells perhaps 20,000 copies. That can't be a good sign. Those kind of sales for a single is good for ANY indie band ;) it's climbing up iTunes so it might hang around for a while we'll see but there's nothing to worry about all for them ^_^
August 17, 200619 yr You seem to be the only Chico fan  Apparently he was on GMTV. It would appear so :D I know he's done a few pa's this week too.
August 17, 200619 yr Author Missy Elliott and Matt Willis are just bubbling under the Top 75 on downloads only
August 17, 200619 yr Woohoo-Go Shakira!!! Has Arctics bubble burst already :-0 They need to release a song that sounds different to the rest if they want another No.1 hit...
August 17, 200619 yr The thing about the arctic monkeys is they are lacking in downloads, 3rd lowest in the entire top 20, only ronan and maria are lower, which to me seems unusual, the track is not on the album, so you'd expect people to be down, oading it really? If people had downloaded it 3-5000), it would be #1.
